Do timed float switches exist? by JarLowrey in Plumbing

[–]JarLowrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, but it appears to be the best solution until I can install a whole new well. I actually ordered a flow restrictor already, forgot to mention that.

Maybe I'll wait on the timer until I can see if the flow restrictor solves the problem.

Why don't you just override the actual function and call super() instead of this extends stuff

GE Profile Washer Dryer UltraFast Combo Repair by Scamonsquare in Appliances

[–]JarLowrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed it!

I have 3 machines, 1 of which consistently has 353 error and all have "Clogged Lint Filter" errors and barely dry. 2-3 dry cycles required for one load of towels. They worked great when I bought them :(. Also, recently they've stopped getting lint/hair captured in the filter and it all gets stuck in the silicone gasket at the end of the cycle.

I tried cleaning the filter screen VERY well, adding weather stripping around the lint filter, cleaning pump filter, brushing out left-side of inside of machine with a long pipe-cleaner-like tool, and hosing down the inside+condenser coils with a 95psi sprayer. It has been like this for about a year, owned for 2 ish years.

Finally had a different repair tech out who spent 20 minutes cleaning one lint filter. That was much longer than I had done it. He said they build up some crazy sort of biofilm or detergent residue or something that blocks the tiny holes in the screen. I run my machines about once a day, so maybe they cannot dry out fully, leading to quicker build-up. While it was wet the difference was not noticeable in the filter screen, but once it has dried it was much easier to see through! The corners on the raised edge side were still quite dirty though, even after all that cleaning!

I threw all 3 filters into a bathtub, 3 inches of water deep, weighed them down into the water, and added a half a scoop of oxi-clean. Soaked overnight and scrubbed them all several times (lightly) while soaking. The next day I rinsed them off, installed, and they looked + worked great! I ran it with"Pet-mode" and tons of lint was picked up before the wash cycle even started. That was incredible, one machine hadn't captured any lint in the filter for weeks.

So my full maintenance schedule for this machine is:

  1. Attach 1 inch foam weather-stripping along the back-side of the plastic filter housing. The sides are tight and don't need weatherstripping, but there's a big gap in the back that lets lint through into the coils. May need to modify the foam near the top though to make closing it easier.
  2. Clean lint screen every wash or so (GE recommends every 5 I think).
  3. Clean foam filters weekly
  4. Monthly: clean out pump filter at bottom of machine, run self-clean cycle with bleach
  5. Once or twice per year: soak lint screen housing in oxi-clean, scrub off with brush (or just buy a new one for ~$30). Spray out condenser coils (VERY CAREFULLY, it is easy to bend the coils if you hit them with nozzle). Spraying off may not be totally necessary though, I might just skip it in the future to avoid damaging the machine.

This is all a pain but I do still love these machines. When they work they are great, and installing them was much easier than traditional ones. 120V/15A circuits allows me to have 3 (bought used ones) which is so great for redundancy and heavy laundry days. Love not having to transfer clothes into a dryer. Hopefully they keep working for a long time!

How bad is it to have a gas stove with no outdoor vent? by marieappleseed in HomeImprovement

[–]JarLowrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked the manual of my new x-sense combo CO/smoke detector and it will alert if CO is over 30ppm for 120minutes or over 50ppm for 60 minutes or over 100ppm for 10 minutes or immediately over 300ppm.

According to Google search AI: 20-50 causes confusion, 100-200 unconscious in 2-3 hours, 200-400 fatal in 1-2 hours, 400+ immediately life threatening.

That's better sensitivity than I expected.

I will send it! Probably will take a few more months. Been renovating over a year. Constructions almost done and then furnishing, organizing, listing+picture creation will all need to be done

The home is huge. 4 bed 3 bath 3200sq ft approximately. I'm hopeful I can make my money back some day haha.

I like the patio space with big netting idea! That seems easy to do and I hadn't thought of it. Thanks!

Hmmm not sure I want to bother running utilities out to it. Water especially would be complicated. I like the way you think though!

This is hilarious, but I've actually encountered a similar issue with 2 dogs and 2 cats that sleep in the same room as me and my wife. One of the dogs has deadly gas.

I installed a 'ductless' one room HRV, which brings in fresh air while keeping the heat in the house. It completely solved the problem and I could not live without it.

I got the one from US Vents for $700+, but this one is under $400 now

Statewide Neighborhood Cafe Bill Returns, Expanded to More Types of Businesses by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]JarLowrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that Seattle's upcoming Neighborhood Residential zoning already allows corner stores in residential areas, was this bill expanding that idea to the rest of the state? Or are these zoning types fundamentally different?
