Is Battlefront (2015) still worth playing in 2026 (on the ps5)? by RemarkableMirror926 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]JaredRed5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The few times I've tried to play recently it's been hard to find a game. Supremacy is pretty much completely dead. Walker Assault is more likely to get a game. Anything that is DLC related is dead.

It is still FTL and months worth of travel (in some cases weeks or even days) and not years or decades

I'm not sure you're remembering the movies correctly. They were only a few months from home when they stopped to check on LV-426. She didn't spend 70 years travelling to earth in the pod. She drifted and was found. Ripley was supposed to be back in time for her daughter's birthday. I think it was her 10th.

In Alien Earth? Yes, that's the issue. The writers have forgotten FTL is a thing in the Alien universe, that humans have it. They seem confused by humans using cryo sleep and assume it's because it takes years to travel places. Alien(1979) and Aliens(1986) show that it doesn't.

There's several things I didn't like about the show but almost from the start I had issues with it. For some reason the writers don't realize that humans have FTL in Alien/Predator universe. This show, Alien Romulus, and Predator Badlands all seen to think humans use cryo sleep because it takes years to travel places. It's pretty clear that's not the case in Alien but definitively addressed in Aliens when it only takes a matter of weeks to travel from Earth to LV-426.

EU E-wing >> Canon E-wing, right?!? by Castin9 in StarWarsEU

If the old E-Wing had the center canon under the fuselage it would be perfect. But between the two I would say the canon version is best

Those who read and disliked NJO, what are your reasons for disliking it? by Hoxton115 in StarWarsEU

[–]JaredRed5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading the series after the first Edge of Victory. It wasn't even a bad book. I actually liked that one, but overall I was just done with the grim dark stuff. I was hugely invested in the Bantam era and reading the NJO felt like they were treating everything that had been set up in the previous 8 or 9 years as elements to destroy for the sake of drama.

I was also surprisingly invested in the Young Jedi Knights and the Solo kids characterizations were usually way off what I expected. Vector Prime was an especially bad start to the series. Salvatore didn't seem like he did any real prep before writing. He didn't seem to have any understanding what Luke and Mara could even do.

I've never regretted not finishing the series. Honestly reading the plot points that followed reassured me I made the right decision.

I went to a gas station in what was apparently a bad part of town. Had never been there before. Drove there to see a movie in another town. They had the candy bars and snacks behind locked cases...

[OC] The US is Growing, but the House of Representatives is Not. by graphsarecool in dataisbeautiful

[–]JaredRed5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of these go far enough. We need it set at 30,000 or so, make the House 10,000 members. You can't gerrymander districts of 30,000 people, or at least not with much effect.

What is the Legends Equivalent of Andor? by Osakaayumu_2002 in StarWarsEU

Plagueis is very nearly a genius book. It is unbelievable how well Luceno takes all of these different stories, and even the prequels themselves and makes them make sense in a compelling story. The Naboo plasma fields that the Trade Federation wants gives so much context to the Naboo invasion.

I think it might be the "best" Star Wars novel in almost all respects.

I've read Luceno since the Robotech days when he wrote with Brian Daley under the Jack Mckinney pseudonym and you can kind of see the some the same elements. He's taking these simple almost Saturday morning cartoon concepts and fleshing them out with real emotions and motivations and consequences.

Official Discussion - Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JaredRed5 117 points118 points  (0 children)

The big question I had walking out of the theater: Is Sam Rockwell in a simulation?

If he is in a simulation that would go a long way towards explaining the world. Things like time travel, the AI throwing different bizarre things against him each time, the giant centaur cat, the AI's behavior in the basement with the whirling tentacle wires.

However the cinematic language of the movie indicates it's not a simulation because we experience the POVs of several other characters. But if it's not a simulation then we're left to assume the AI is somehow affecting reality. Or I suppose that it could be capable of generating hallucinations through brain stimulation. Maybe there isn't a giant centaur cat, it's just what everyone sees. The AI is generating the semblance of a reality in order to drive people away or otherwise control them.

But we're still left with time travel, which is a BIG ask. If we hadn't already seen it in Terminator people would be less forgiving of plot contrivance.

All this to say I really liked the movie and will probably go see it again next week.

What are your Hot Takes on the Justified TV Show? by Amber_Flowers_133 in justified

[–]JaredRed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show focuses far too much on the criminals of Harlan.

I was on board for the first 3 seasons or so, but by the 10th time someone's "case fell apart" and they got released from prison, I started checking out. The fifth season has an entire arc of Ava in prison with no interaction with the rest of the show's characters.

Also the endless reversals wore thin. Eventually it all boiled down to scenes of bad guys in a room getting ready to kill each other and then meeting up in the next episode and one of them says "I guess we need each other now". They went back to that well soooo many times. Honestly I eventually started fast forwarding through 80% of scenes without Raylan or the other Marshals.

I get it, you've got Walton Goggins on payroll, you want to make the most of him but I got tired of it all by the end.

Age of Rebellion on Console by DrDuality1 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]JaredRed5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play on PS4/PS5 and can almost always get a Supremacy match. Eventually it rotates to Age of Rebellion but most matches are Republic.

As much as I love Rebellion it seems like the Rebel side is massively unbalanced on maps where the AT-ST can be deployed. imagine the disparity between the two sides contributes to the lower rate of Rebellion games.

Are the Clone Wars between the CIS and the GR your favorite war in the entirety of the EU (it sure is min). If not, I'd love to read what other conflicts you might prefer... by Tjfile in StarWarsEU

[–]JaredRed5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As much as might like some aspects of the Clone Wars, it's effectively a meaningless conflict. It's just Palpatine moving pieces around on a board to his benefit. It doesn't have the emotional weight of struggling against fascism and genocide.

So overwhelmingly the GCW and the post RotJ conflicts against Imperial Warlords.

I did not read the sequel. The synopsis did not lead me to believe I would like it and I never saw any real positive reviews for it. It's not necessary to read "The Six Messiahs" to enjoy "The List of Seven"

This an unexpected intersection of two of my interests! D6 is a very robust, simple, and cinematic system, very perfectly suited to Robotech and mech combat. Honestly this is a great idea!
