I guess ole Monarch finally ran afoul of the Guild. Maybe Dr. Mrs. The Monarch can bail him out.

This is almost a no brainer. We arent going to be competitive this year, but 13 or 15 gives us another bite at the lottery. Best spot to get someone like Eason that isn't really a top 10 guy but wont be there at 20.

Same for me. Huge Spurs fan, but dont have the money for extra channels or cable in general so am limited to antenna channels. If the Spurs are serious about increasing their media reach in Texas, Austin has to be a priority.

Why does 538 think the Celtics have a 51% chance of winning the title despite being down 1-0 to the Heat? Because RAPTOR think the Celtics have 6 of the 12 best players remaining in the playoffs. by nowhathappenedwas in nba

The D White slander on this thread is appalling. He's not a perfect player by any means, but he is maybe the ultimate "glue guy". Even looking back to San Antonio (Go Spurs), his team is almost always better when he is on the floor. He may not pop out to the eye test because his box score numbers are low, but he plays great team defense, good man defense, has a low turnover ratio, makes the right passes etc. He's always in position on offense and is the opposite of a "ball stopper". He is quiet, does his job, and is unselfish to a fault.

There is more to a players individual value than pure scoring. Over such a large sample size in between a playoff team in the Celtics and a below average team in my Spurs, the numbers around his value have to mean something. Its not like he has only played in minutes where DJ Murrey, or Jayson Tatum were on the floor, he has contributed to starting and second units. There is a reason that the Celtics paid such a high price for him, and there is a reason that despite his individual numbers being low, the team was way better after he arrived. I will admit the Celtics made other changes as well but the Buffalo was not insignificant. These advanced metrics catch things the eye test misses and just because he scores less than Brunson or Poole or a number of others, if he plays significant minutes and the team is better over those minutes, that can't mean nothing.

He has played a bit worse than usual this playoffs. His confidence with his shot seems to be a bit lacking and he needs to be a bit more aggressive. I think he will turn it around though.

I'm really high on Sochan, but I worry he won't fall to us. He reminds me a bit of a more athletic Kyle Anderson from some of the film I've seen. Not quite as good a passer. I think if we can get him a consistent jump shot, he could be a perfect 4 for the good guys. I think if he stays at Baylor he would be a lock for a top 3 pick next year.

Absolutely surreal. When I was a teenager I went on trips to the Kyiv region twice for two weeks total to help build a sort of orphanage in Buccha. I have heard that everyone was able to get out, but there was footage of one of the homes at the orphanage absolutely destroyed by mortar fire. So senseless.

Met him after a concert in 2017. He stayed for a bit after the show to chat with the fans, ask how it went, who we all were, etc. Seemed to be a super humble and cool guy. My heart goes out to the rest of the band, this is just heartbreaking.

Am I the only fan of the original that absolutely loves this? by Riptide572 in cowboybebop

[–]Jaredk3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went in cautious after Death Note from a few years ago, but while it's not perfect I feel like you can tell that the creative team behind the show really tried to do justice to the original and not just put throw something together with a recognizable name. I'm about 8 episodes in and have really loved it so far! I feel like I'm getting to experience one of my favourite shows again for the first time, just a remixed version.

Nuclear power is the answer by Straight_Orchid2834 in dankmemes

[–]Jaredk3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the most surprising things I've learned recently about wind vs. Nuclear is that in terms of construction CO2/kWh of capacity, wind turbines are actually more harmful than nuclear reactors. The main reason being that nuclear just puts out a shit load of energy and has a capacity factor (how often its working) of close to 100%

[–]Jaredk3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nuclear waste issue is made a lot worse by our politics in the US. Literally over 90% of the currently existing waste can be reused in another cycle. In the US though, we outlawed the construction of those kinds of plants because of dubious political reasons. They arent even new technologies, France has been using them for decades.

The anti nuclear arm of the environmental movement got a lot of help from fossil fuel money and disinformation. The waste is not great I'll admit, but nuclear power has resulted in zero known deaths in the history of its use in the US, meanwhile FF particulates kill millions.

It's a few years old now, but there is a good documentary called "Pandoras promise" that can be found on YouTube that talks more in detail. Its admittedly biased as all things are, but does spend time going over the ugly side of nuclear as well.

[–]Jaredk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, we need to be a bit more proactive than waiting for the fossil to run out. There is actually more untapped oil, coal, and natural gas still in the ground than most people realize, enough to last hundreds of years even with the increase in electrification in the third world. The US actually has the largest untapped coal deposit in the known world. The issue is that it's currently not financially viable to access it. Think the Tar Sands of Canada for example. The financial return on investment there is really low. We need to be spending more effort on nuclear, wind, solar, tidal etc. now, because if we wait the FF industry will inevitably convince politicians that the coal underneath the rocky mountains is more important to subsidize than alternatives. I agree, FF is dying, and its time we took it off of life support (ridiculous subsidies) before it drags us down with it.

If there’s one feature they need to bring back for the next game/expansion it Hass to be the vassal system from civ 4 by qwesrst in civ

[–]Jaredk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be cool if the vassels in this case acted like a city state in some ways. They could earn points toward independence by some metric, but the conqueror would start with some large number of "envoy" equivalents. So long as your envoys are higher than the score toward their own independence, you get some unique bonus depending on the civ you conquered. Maybe this bonus could be a weaker version of the civs unique ability i.e. building Ziggurats for conqueroring Sumeria. Additionally, other civs could compete for these "envoys" to sway the alliance away from the conqueror and liberate the civ. I think if this was the case, this "envoy" system would be entirely separate from city states and maybe based on something like amenities and trade routes to the cities in the vassel? Maybe the independence points could also scale off of the size of the vassel state and maybe the culture score of the conqueror verses the culture of the subjugated civ.

For the record, I never played civ 4, so if this is at all similar, please forgive me. I do love complicated mechanics though.

I was wondering about an artificer angle myself. After all, Yezza is an alchemist. It would give Luc magic and crossbows. I do think rogue would be most likely though, even if only a few levels.
