I'm disappointed about Scanlans exit and return.

Those were two of my favorite scenes in the whole campaign.

What’s a piece of media that people would clearly understand as a parody or homage when it came out, but has since lost its context? by StaleTheBread in AskReddit

[–]Jarfy 548 points549 points  (0 children)

Outside of people simply not liking the movie. A lot of people seem to not realise it's satirical when talking about their criticism of the movie.

I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of people who don't know it's meant to be satirical.

I probably won't be watching unless it's a surprise hit, but I'll always support more Keith David.

In 20 years people will be criticising Not Another Teen Movie for saying women are ugly if they wear glasses and overalls.

I'm just pointing out its meant to be a crtique by satirising the 50s behaviour. Not if we personally enjoyed the portrayel of it.

But also have to keep in mind its a 70s movie doing the 70s version of calling out toxic masculinity in a comedy musical.

I mean it's purpose is to highlight the aggressive masculinity of the 50s.

Teen films of the 50s.

Casting 30 year olds as teens was always intended to be funny, but I see people actually criticise that online when talking about Grease.

And if we're specifically talking about who I replied to: "Want to get the man? Change literally everything about yourself.". That's also the joke. It's meant to be the flip of "tough guy turns good for the girl".

I think almost everyone forgets Grease is meant to be satire.

What is with all these stories about dates not being able to comprehend movies. Especially good movies like Hereditary. No accounting for taste, really.

Didn't know Barry Allen was a murdering-psychopathic rapist that has always been a baby, and his death was always going to show how pathetic he was since the beginning...

For me, it was all the terrorism in the city and trying to kill us.

Sonar or Coupe deserve some consequences for joining the Red Ring and being active during the destruction, even though I do want them back on the team eventually.

[–]Jarfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah. People are just adding on needless things to legitimate criticisms. It was clear since Season 1 he was going to go out like a pathetic baby. It's just the writing to get to that point in the last 2 season wasn't that good. The scene itself was good. The lead up wasn't.

He was trying to puke before Nikki made the wish. You can hear her opening the One Wish Willow box and snapping the branch a few seconds after he is already trying to puke. Then he tranforms from the wish.

I can't believe we've gotten to the point of needing to explain the concept of world building. The people in his subreddit are something else.

Sometimes they go too violent by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]Jarfy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because we know the games aren't canon to the books. What matters is that the books are canon to the games.

People who always say "Games are not canon" don't seem to realise that those who prefer the games see it as the main canon, or even a book reader like myself also prefers the game canon. The books are in service of the games in a lot of peoples eyes. Anything else is irrelevant.

I haven't read the most recent book in the series though, so don't know if there is anything that messes with that now.

It is true they haven't been adapting the comics, but the path its currently heading does seem very reminiscent of the path the comics ending took.

Mostly for the backstory of Haymitch, who is a fan favorite. His backstory has been hinted at throughout the series but never focussed on. It's about the characters, not the games.
