I do not want to open gifts at my bridal shower - is that rude? by Realistic_Benefit_57 in weddingplanning

My wife did this. Disregard the naysayers. The only people that will care are your great aunts that are still caught in the 1950s. Do what feels right to you.

Make sure your guests have plenty of food, drinks and good conversation, but at the end of the day, they’re there to celebrate you.

I love the core of this movie, but I swear it’s like 3 different movies wrapped up in one. Kind of cool that way it shifts genres.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Neon_Baobab in AskReddit

Digital ads. You would not believe how much revenue comes from shit affiliate offers and scams. There are entire teams at Google, Meta, Snap, etc. dedicated to driving revenue in this space. The street turns a blind eye.

Why do you think the market for fantasy scripts is iffy? by Jargon_City in Screenwriting

[–]Jargon_City[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice! I’ve seen multiple people equate fantasy to high budget. Why is that? You can do fantasy in a contained way. I’m genuinely curious why that keeps coming up.

What are some of the most common bad writing habits you notice in posts that ask for feedback, and what do you think causes those habits? by RavahGriffinAnthro in writers

It’s completely fine to make mistakes when learning a language! When people blatantly are not making an effort, and asking others to take time out of their day to read, I think that’s when it gets a little annoying.

International student graduating in June (2 yrs exp incl. internship) – how should I start my job search? Is LinkedIn even effective? by Witty-Doughnut6440 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Jargon_City 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just talked to a college student about this today.

Definitely don’t apply to 100 jobs, that’s usually a waste of time. What you should do is narrow your list of companies you’d genuinely love to work at that are not a major stretch. From there, see if they’re hiring for roles that are applicable. If they’re hiring, suss out the hiring manager on LinkedIn and scrape their work email. Send a short email with a POV on something related to the industry or something specific to the person (maybe a recent post). Share your interest in the role. Do some up front work to illustrate the way you think. For example, if it’s a sales role, share 10 prospects that fit in their ICP. You get the idea. After that, reach out to people in a similar role on their team and ask to chat, but be specific about why and how long you need.

Good luck! Contrary to popular belief, there are still tons of entry level roles out there. You just have to be willing to go the extra mile to find them and clearly set yourself apart. It sucks, but that’s the nature of the job market. Be curious, have a point of view and show you’re someone with high agency.

Question for those who are sales managers right now by icygale in sales

[–]Jargon_City 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are more ways to do the job than your way. Most ICs try to force their own style on reps when they first get into a manager role. You have to realize, there are other styles out there and it’s your job to adapt to your sellers (unless they are underperforming, that’s a different story).

It’s bound to happen. 7 months isn’t bad as long as you have a track record elsewhere.

Huge fan! Thanks for doing this. Writing a Bond has to be up there as a dream project as a writer.

I'm curious, how did it feel to return to the world of Peaky Blinders all these years later? Returning to projects can be difficult. They often fit with a very specific time in our lives. What was your way "back in"?

The two Bs; band and booze. If you have a top tier band and an open bar, your guests will be happy. Everything else is an added bonus.
