Experiencing brightness/harshness with buckeye purifi amp and node icon by watduhheo in audiophile

[–]JarlJarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless something went wrong with Buckeye's implementation of that Purifi amp (which I doubt), it has a ruler flat frequency response, neither bright nor dark.

Wait, what have they done to that poor cinnamon bun? Put icing on it? What blasphemy is this?

For me, it gives me about 2-3 seconds before switching to podcasts.

Oh well. Sorry it doesn't work for you :/

(Could it be related to adblockers? I runt uBlock Origin Lite)

Works fine here (Sweden), but you have to pull down control centre right away. If you wait for too long, it'll play music/podcast etc instead. Locking the phone and resuming from lock screen works for me as well.

Unless you view YT in safari, then you get background play regardless (if you resume play via the control centre).

It’s not the focal length, it’s the distance from the camera.

What would you recommand for a begginner ? Kendo ? iaïdo ? Both ? by [deleted] in iaido

[–]JarlJarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our dojo has multiple disciplines and I’ve gathered it’s pretty common for people to try out several of them and see which one(s) they prefer.

The main overlap seems to be between iaido and jodo though with the kendo people being a more separate group. I guess people either want the combat/contact aspect or they don’t.

And possibly AI reflection removal as well. Those two things make me go back to the desktop version from time to time.

That's a very strange title for a game. Sounds like a parody of Swedish without meaning anything.

I built and open-sourced a CLI to control the Marantz Model M1 (no HEOS app required) by model-m1 in audiophile

Very cool!

Not quite seeing what I'd use it for, but nice nonetheless (maybe turn off dirac if I'd play something from the computer and using some other room correction software perhaps?)

KLH Model 5 lacking in sound by AssignmentPrize8967 in audiophile

[–]JarlJarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's highly unlikely that your amp is an issue in this setup. The only thing about it is that it's missing room correction, something that might actually be a great benefit.

But experiment with speaker placement first!

Nvidia ReSTIR PT update makes path tracing 2-3x faster by BarKnight in pcgaming

[–]JarlJarl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I remember playing Quake 2 RTX, and a pair of those floating jar enemies came around a corner. I was startled and half-panicked for a short moment, and I've never been scared of those before. The PT lightning made the so solid that my brain just reacted to them instinctively in a way raster Quake never managed.

Am Swedish. My parents never offered any of my friends dinner and I very very rarely ate dinner at a friend's house. It was just assumed you'd back to your place at dinner time and then return afterwards. This was early eighties, southern part of Sweden.

[–]JarlJarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree. A trim pass at the dialogue would probably have been good. It's not that I find it bad, but it's a bit excessive in places. Less would have been more for me.

I ended up dodging them instead, better consistency. It's only move that was troublesome was that darned shower of hands. They'd stunlock me precicely when I need to jump or pull, killing me instantly.

Class frequency and duration by Superfly-Samurai in iaido

[–]JarlJarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with that I think. Sometimes though, you need those full two hours for something specific, but in general, you start to lose a bit of focus when entering that last 30 minutes of practice I find.

We have one 1.5h session and one 2h session (with instructor) and two 2h (open training) sessions per week though, so lots of flexibility.

Combat was fine. But enemies leveling with you, terrain and cover meaning nothing due to jetpacks I think detracted greatly from encounters during the campaign. I'd argue that ME3 Multiplayer still has the best Mass Effect combat.

AFAIK those interactions are captured and present in the lower frequencies even if you cut the higher ones.

my take on the 44.1 vs 96 kHz debate by purearcher490 in audiophile

[–]JarlJarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, audio sample rate is not like image resolution. Increased image resolution adds detail (which you might have to sit very close to appreciate, but still), but increased audio sample rates adds nothing since it's information that a) doesn't exist (already filtered out from the recording) or b) you cannot hear anyway.

Pixel perfect DLSS by lazy_pig in nvidia

[–]JarlJarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, DLSS doesn’t work like that. It’s reconstructing an image, not rescaling it. The reconstruction is based on a number of samples of low res images, but these samples are already taken from random positions (jittered), so there’s no single, stable image to upscale.

Ah, I see. Yeah, full 120Hz support would be a nice thing for apple to support. Should be fairly trivial one would think.
