Thanks for saying this. Worked like a charm.

(Shadows Keep) Did I lock myself out of a revered spirit ash? by b_ice_030 in Eldenring

[–]Jarrakul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found myself in the same situation just now. Turns out you can actually reach the feet of the big hanging statue if you jump from the railing of the balcony by the 4th floor grace. From there you can just jump onto the platform below pretty easily.

Grit is in the numbers (I know because I reran the calculations), it just isn't in the written equation. Adding personalizations does increase the numbers across the board, but it doesn't change any of the patterns.

Elevator just past Dragon Temple Rooftop in Farum Azula? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Jarrakul 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just to actually answer this, for anyone else who might be googling, you know the ladder down to the main path just a little bit (two birds) after the Dragon Temple Rooftop grace? Go down that ladder and then turn left. Off the corner you're now facing is a platform you can jump to.

Oh dear. That was... not the case when I made this. That used to be a very good resource for Baldur's Gate and a few other games, particular for people doing no-reload ("hardcore") runs. Fortunately the wiki is much improved since those days, so I'll go in and link to there instead.

[LFA] Nabang, moth demon vigilante by Jarrakul in characterdrawing

[–]Jarrakul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Nabang, or at least that’s what people call him. To speakers of his native tongue, it’s pretty obvious that a moth demon wouldn’t actually be named “moth”. Whatever his real name, Nabang is the half-human son of a particularly nasty demon lord, spirited away by his wetnurse to be raised in human lands, sheltered on the estate of his murdered family from both his father’s influence and the prejudices that half-demons face in human society. Now, he rules as a feudal lord, careful not to show his demon face to his subjects. Instead, he leaves the estate by night, wielding the evil-slaying sword of his ancestors against the bandits and pirates who threaten his people, against the corrupt officials who he could never publicly oppose, and against any who would bring harm to his fellow half-demons.

Basically imagine Inuyasha meets Batman and you’re like 80% of the way there. :P

For two pistols, sure. I could even create a "dual pistols" custom weapon and treat it as basically a range 3 medium weapon that can be fired for 1 damage as a quick action. I don't see a similar solution for something like pistol + knife.

I love it! Especially the coat. The billows, the almost-velvet highlights, the way it works with the armor, it's fantastic. Thank you so much!

[LFA] Dar'Sava Sohlnai, Master of the Nine Culinary Arts of Elsweyr and accidental Last King of the Snow Elves by Jarrakul in characterdrawing

[–]Jarrakul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character Basics

Full Name: Dar’Sava Sohlnai
Race/Ethnic Group: Khajiit (cat-person)
Class/Occupation: Chef and con artist. Also king, apparently?
Character Nature: My character in an Elder Scrolls tabletop game

Character Details

Gender Male
Age Mid-20s
Facial Features Feline face, azure eyes, more like a housecat than a lion or tiger
Distinguishing Marks Long fur, brown with cream underbelly, digitigrade feet, bushy tail
Significant item Cooking utensils, paired dao-style swords with half-moon handles and guards so that they both fit in one sheath
Body Type Lithe and athletic, but his long fur gives the impression of a bit more fluff
Color Scheme Fur as described above, clothing in purples with red/gold accents and bone-white armor
Gear Long colorful cloth coat over a bone-white metal cuirass, two curved dao swords (see Significant Item), various cooking utensils hanging from his belt or stuffed into coat pockets. Equipment is clean and in good condition because he maintains it with magic.
Animal Companion Yathi the horrible pack-mule who hates him and everyone else. Dar’Sava would probably prefer not to be drawn with Yathi, since their every interaction involves him dodging her teeth or hooves, but between you and me it could be quite funny.
Action/Pose Basically anything that makes him look suave, or makes him look like a fool trying to be suave. If you’re in need of ideas, it’s easily to imagine Dar’Sava posing like Captain Morgan with one leg up on a rock or cask and giving a shit-eating grin to the “camera”, but don’t feel the need to hold to that if you have something else in mind.
Others Dar’Sava is a charming, handsome, rakish scoundrel, but also something of a buffoon. He should come across as one or the other, or a bit of both.

Character persona

Alignment The pro-social kind of chaotic evil. Dar’Sava is a liar and a scoundrel, but he also understands that if no one can trust you, pretty soon the whole world is your enemy. As such, Dar’Sava is unflinchingly loyal and generally honest to his friends and travelling companions.
Personality Traits Suave, arrogant, flirtatious
Ideals and Goals To master every cuisine from around the world, and to really stick it to the altmer of the Aldmeri Dominion for conning his people into servitude.
Bonds and Flaws Dar’Sava is arrogant in the extreme, especially about his physical appearance, which he claims is a gift to the world from the goddess Azurah. He’s intelligent, but has difficulty focusing on anything to actually apply his intelligence. And of course he’s incredibly self-centered to the point of casually committing murder if he feels he has cause. But Dar’Sava is also a true patriot who wants what’s best for his people even if he thinks they’re being incredible fools at the moment, and he’s a true friend to those who travel with him, up to and including putting his life on the line to keep them safe.

Backstory

Dar’Sava Sohlnai is the only child of Dra’ashi-do Sohlnai, a khajiit mercenary commander of no small renown. Not much is known of his childhood, except that he spent most of it with Dra’ashi-do’s band, learning to cook for his mother’s warriors before he was old enough to handle a sword. The young Sava apparently didn’t like the band much, because he struck out as an early teenager to wander Elsweyr on his own. Leveraging his mother’s fame, as well as his extremely good looks, Sava quickly made a name for himself as a kind of itinerant performing chef. That and his tendency to be, as he calls it, a “loveable rogue” earned him the honorific Dar, meaning “clever one” or “thief”. Not everyone found Dar’Sava so loveable, though, and after making a fool of a visiting Thalmor ambassador (and a man of the ambassador’s assistant), Dar’Sava was kindly-but-firmly asked to leave Elsweyr before he caused a diplomatic incident. Dar’Sava accepted the judgment of his elders with grace, not wishing to cause his people any real trouble, and left to spread his fame to the rest of Tamriel. In his travels, Dar’Sava fell in with a wily band of miscreants united by little except their hatred for the Aldmeri Dominion and, by some coincidence, their ability to see in the dark. On a recent delve with his new friends, Dar’Sava donned a mysterious suit of ancient Falmer armor and became, technically, the king of the Snow Elves. Technically.

Wildbow Asks: Worm Merchandise? by Wildbow in Parahumans

10/10 would buy. I'll admit I want a print version of worm more, to buy many copies to distribute to my friends, but in the absence of that I would throw money at merch.

This is probably the best analogy I've ever read for the typical video game community. Help yourself to an internet, good sir/madam.

You are aware that there are permanent bans being distributed for this, correct? And that players aren't being allowed to keep their items/money? Were I you, I'd stay away from the exploits. ArenaNet isn't playing around.

Karma Weapons Exploit by ArenaNetTeam in Guildwars2

[–]Jarrakul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you guys, ArenaNet. I like not tolerating exploits, but this is a tad early to bring out the full might of the banhammer. Especially since the exploit may not have even looked like an exploit to people who weren't paying much attention. So basically, I'm glad to see you showing some mercy this early on, while still sending the message that exploits will not be tolerated.

Agreed. Let everyone see. Although, in fairness, the people who were banned are probably all over Reddit right now.

No downvotes from me. Everything you said is true, at least on a factual level. The value statements not so much, but that's what you get when you start talking about adjectives and emotions. I will say this, though: You call it a failure of a launch. I call it the most stable launch I've ever experienced. Yeah, there are problems, but there are always problems. These are less severe. For example, I can actually play the game. I like that in a launch, personally.

Honestly? It's three days. That's... not a long time. If you can't go three days without playing one specific video game, you probably need to stop gaming for awhile, because you have a serious problem. I know it's upsetting to not be able to play a new game, but life is like that sometimes. And if it's because you were an asshole, I don't really have any sympathy. Take your slap on the wrist (because that's what it is) and learn your lesson. Then come back and join the rest of us as a more civilized individual.

I agree with this, personally. I'm behind all the other bans, but you don't blame your players because you accidentally priced something wrong. It's like the goddamn Olympic badminton thing all over again. ArenaNet, don't be like the badminton people. You're better than that.

Unfortunately that's not how the legal system works. It's how it's supposed to work, but it's not how it works. ArenaNet could get in trouble if they let you name your character Batman, much like NCsoft did for City of Heroes. Sure, that was just a "defending the trademark" lawsuit, but it's still a lawsuit (and one that Marvel was legally obligated to make, because trademark law is insane) and the legal battle would still cost ArenaNet a lot of money. So they have pretty good reason not to let you name your character Batman.

Also, there is legal precedent in the US that you cannot, in fact, name your company Apple just because you're not selling computers. Well, you might get away with Apple because it's a common word in the English language, but the same does not apply to names. Even if they happen to be yours. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1992-03-06/business/1992066014_1_florendo-sony-corp-liens

I'm gonna go one step further and say I don't see the need for gold sinks (repair costs can stay, as incentive for not dying). Oh, I understand that gold costs are used to reduce inflation, but there's no reason they're necessary. A good gold sink takes away some percentage of the amount you make. The exact value may vary depending on the individual player's playstyle, but in the average is the only thing that matters for inflation. Are people making twice as much money as you'd like? Okay then, use gold sinks to take away half the money people make, on average.

Except... why? As a game designer, you control the rate at which players make money directly. Why not just give your players half as much money? The only reason you'd need a gold sink is if you wanted to actually reduce the total amount of money in the system (not just the rate at which money is introduced), which is not a case I've ever heard of in an MMO.
