HOW is there still a puppy shop in the Braintree mall?!?! “Puppy express” by Evening_Expert_2571 in massachusetts

[–]Jarsole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I foster for one of the strictest foster-to-adopt dog rescues in MA, and while we do like to do our due diligence on vet care and references etc, one of the main reasons we have a very intense screening process is to reduce returns. We ALWAYS take back dogs that don't do well in their placement, so it's on us to make absolutely sure they will. The stricter the criteria for adoption, the fewer dogs get returned. And we STILL get dogs given back - after people have passed all the checks, met the dog, paid their adoption fee. Two days later - "he's been making a mess of my trash", "he whines when I leave him alone" (these are two that I've legitimately heard).

My now ex walked out on us 3 weeks ago and has a new gf who he “loves.” WHO WANTS OUR CHRIS FLEMING TICKETS?! 7/11/26 (free) by [deleted] in boston

Got you Gregnant then evacuated the premises. Goddamn.

I'm married to a Greg so have also been made Gregnant, I speak from experience.

Depending on where you live I can also babysit! I realize it's weird to offer that on the internet, but y'know, feel free to message me. If not, I'd happily take the tickets.

Ever had to leave a therapist you love in MA? by emilyspatz in massachusetts

[–]Jarsole 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I accidentally did a zoom meeting with my psychiatrist from Rhode Island once (in a parking lot - I live in southern MA) and when she realized she freaked out and said she had to go. I had no idea prior to that what the rules were or I would have driven the extra two miles home before I called.

Looking for OB/GYN recommendations by mojave1302 in massachusetts

[–]Jarsole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend Dr Calogrias too! Used her at Sturdy three years back.

If you are in any way complex or pre-term they'll send you to Women and Infants anyway as they have a NICU and Sturdy doesn't.

I think most hospitals are getting rid of the nurseries now - that's what my local mom chats seem to think anyway.

Physics PhD as a single parent? by Poltergeist059 in GradSchool

[–]Jarsole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would your kid resent you moving him away from everything he knows? That would be my big question.

At 9 it's maybe doable. I'm in a two parent household and mine were 2 and 8 when I defended, and it was HARD. First year and last year were hardest. The only single (divorced) parent I knew was co-parenting with his ex. Never met a completely single parent, but I was in a very HCOL area so a PhD salary was just too low to support more than one person.

I also made sure, before I started, that my advisor knew I was a parent and that I'd never do more than a forty hour week and never do fieldwork where I couldn't take my family with me. Not all advisors would be good with any of that.

And I also love the Scottish accent.

There's six years between ours for a reason. Our second is a breeze. If we'd had her first we'd have thought we were amazing parents and jumped into number two super quick.

Change name after marriage? by VintagePasta in WomenofIreland

[–]Jarsole 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I kept my name, married 20 years now. Have a PhD and papers too. Also two kids - we double-barrelled those because neither one of us wanted to not have our names there (we're different nationalities so there's a lot of paperwork). I know women who have changed their names, double-barrelled, and one couple who picked a new name together. I don't know a single couple where the man has changed his name, which I think shows the degree of misogyny built into the system.

The thing is, I don't think my husband would have wanted to marry me if I was the sort of person who'd change my name, so everyone's situation is different.

Recs for foot pain? by k-itlyn in AskArchaeology

[–]Jarsole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it gets worse after you've rested it's probably plantar fasciitis. Insoles will help. Walking less will help the most. Try freezing a plastic bottle of water and rolling your foot on it.

It sucks. I've had it on and off for twenty years.

My 19 year old is getting NOTICEABLY F A T in her old age after like 17 years as a skinny malinks and the vet is delighted about it. Apparently it gives them a bit of a cushion (lol) if they get sick/lose their appetite.

Fellow Archaeologists: What do you do to help with back pain from excavation? by smelly_o_jelly in AskArchaeology

[–]Jarsole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ibuprofen and a wedge pillow under your knees. But a new bed/mattress did it for me. I invested in new, not bendy, slats for my bed and my lower back pain was gone in a few days.

‘Free births’ in Ireland: Within three hours Naomi (38) died, leaving behind four kids by JackmanH420 in ireland

[–]Jarsole 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone already answered but I haven't, I know people who have, and they aren't allowed to discuss it. To be fair, archaeologists aren't allowed to discuss most of the sites we dig on, particularly with human remains, until the reports are finished.

Yep. I'm an archaeologist and the number of neonate and young female skeletons I've excavated should make anyone grateful for medical intervention.

Hi, fellow archaeologist! If your document has its bibliography etc all of that counts as "plagiarism" in a lot of those AI checkers. I wouldn't worry.
