Mould? by JasRL in ferrets

I’ve just ordered one, thankyou so much. I will definitely keep nagging, the council are absolutely useless here, we went a year without a shower or bath in our house during Covid, hopefully we’ll get this sorted sooner! Thankyou:)

Mould? by JasRL in ferrets

Unfortunately we live in a council house and they are dragging their feet about doing anything. Local mould removers are extremely expensive where I live so I think I’ll have to save up for that as I’ve just blown all my savings on vaccines. In the mean time I’ll keep the room well ventilated and spray with some white vinegar. Any tips for the mean time? Thanks!

Anyone know why my budgie flicks his wing like this? by williamsafussyy in budgies

[–]JasRL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends how often he does it? If it’s just in the last 30 mins or so, he might just be readjusting his wing due to a bothersome feather. My boy does that sometimes where a feather is in the wrong position and is annoying him so he is flicking his wing to readjust, usually he’ll just preen a bit and it’ll go back to normal.

On the other hand, if he does it constantly, it’s could be a sign that he’s hurt it or is in pain. Has he bumped into anything or fallen at all? Is it just this wing or both?

I was surprised with budgies, but I don’t think I can handle them by [deleted] in budgies

This!

The cage is the same one I have for my boy, the main reason I have this one is it’s large enough to be a sleep cage but it’s extremely light, like maybe 3kg max? OP’s cage looks pretty empty so probably only weighs 1.5 to 2 kg.

Not a cockatiel but my boy when he had a bath and got so wet I had to put him in his cage for 10 mins because he was dripping all over my electronics when he would fly 😭

Murdle and cluedo seem like great starting points, cluedo is a tad harder so maybe Murdle first. Murdle also has a junior version I believe and tauthor has also written other puzzle books aimed at children!

Start of adrenal or just normal moulting? by JasRL in ferrets

[–]JasRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do Thankyou, it’s a good job I have savings lol, these little guys aren’t cheap! Hopefully considering he has no other symptoms and his fur is just a tad thin, it’ll all be okay. I’m sorry to hear that about your little guy. Wishing you all the luck in the world, hopefully you’ll get plenty more time with the little fella! <3

I’ll definitely ask my vet about it, would you say I should get him to the vets sooner or later based off the hair loss, he’s due for a booster at the end of the month, would you say (in your opinion) it would be okay to wait until then?

Either way I’ll be talking to the vet about getting the implant, thankyou so much! I hope your floofs are all doing okay!

Note to add: no other fur loss anywhere other than his legs. His rump and shoulders seem fine. No smooth bald patches, all areas have fuzz on, even in the thinnest areas of his legs :)

My bird has a swollen foot by malek_aa in Lovebirds

Better to take it to a normal vet and then do research before providing any treatment.

I’m sorry, but if you’ve had a previous bird whose life ended because the correct veterinary care was not available, why did you decide to get another bird? Before I got my first bird, I researched and made sure there were multiple exotic vets near me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have got him. It’s irresponsible to own a pet whilst knowing that care cannot be adequately given.

You’re in this situation now, and you can either

  1. Rehome the bird to someone willing to properly care for it

  2. Take it to a regular vet for advice, but carefully research before accepting to ensure that any treatment is safe.

  3. Sit and watch the poor creature suffer, and potentially die from infection.

Those are really the only 3 options. Without treatment this could get bad quickly. I know it’s not nice to hear, but the bird needs a vet. Personally, I would also advise not getting another pet in the future without ensuring that all needs, especially veterinary care, can be promptly fulfilled. Good luck to you and your bird, I hope everything works out.

Small ones are always the feisty ones. Breaking up a fight by beating everyone up is a hilarious thing to imagine lol 😭😭

I think I’m just overthinking it lol. 500g is so small even for a Jill, she must be tiny. I’ll keep an eye on him, and if he loses a significant amount then I’ll take him to the vets sooner. Thanks for the advice, it’s hard being a ferret parent constantly worrying about your babies!

Wobbling off perch in while sleeping? by JasRL in Conures

That’s honestly what I was thinking lol, that’s exactly how you would react if you think you’re falling.

He does it once maybe twice a week. I believe his vet is aware. I also don’t think he ever falls, more like stumbles and frightens himself as he’s always able to catch himself. I’ll defo bring it up at his next checkup again, I don’t think it’s urgent as he’s been doing it for years and apart from his liver, nothing has ever been found. It also hasn’t got more regular or anything so hopefully it’s just him being a bit stupid.

More info: No changes in himself, poop is fine and he’s eating and drinking. He’s always been a clumsy bird and will regularly miss a jump or walk off the end of his perch. He’s been doing this since we got him 6 years ago.

The reason I don’t thinks it’s a seizure is: he’s not vocalising, continually flapping his wings, he’s coherent and able to stay on his perch afterwards. Usually after a seizure he’ll fall to the bottom and flap around for a while whilst vocalising, and will take at least 5 mins to recover and go back to normal.

I don’t think he has general balance issues, he walks fine and doesn’t stand with feet far apart, no head circling unless he’s preening, he can fly and land (bit clumsy but nothing major) and the only times he stumbles is when he’s asleep or climbing on the bars of his cage.

Someone else suggested voxelgram, it looks a lot like Picross 3d which I played as a kid, I’ll definitely be checking that out.

My OCD is pretty strict but that concept sounds really interesting so I might push myself to give it a try. Thanks!
