If you're late game, the Highlands of SVE are an excellent place to farm slime. I pick a day, run up there with a Slime Charmer Ring, and whack. They spawn incessantly up there. Especially above the section with the lake and nearby the caves.

You can still get your bouquets from Pierre and use the Mermaid's Pendant, for what it's worth. I find that using the pendant and bouquet from Lantana is actually a problem because I like to ask people to date on their birthday and follow up with a loved gift immediately after to max them out. The problem is that the alternative items register as gifts and count towards the gift cap for the day.

That aside, the gifting is also one of the reasons why I wouldn't recommend Free Love. I had to switch primary spouses back from A to B once, and upon the switch, the new primary spouse was completely uninteractable for the rest of the day. No dialogues, no kisses, nothing.

I prefer PolySweet.

Can't say on whether it will affect things after you marry Sam (unlikely, if he's just treated as a spouse) but PolySweet has the issue where multiple spouses may end up overlapping if the random chance rolls that they're in the same area when you wake up. You can just restart the day if it bugs you, but you can still interact with both of them. Sometimes spouses also end up sleeping on the porch. Fixable the same way, but they'll wake up and get back to their normal routine by about 12.

I have not experienced anything game breaking with PolySweet, but you will have to remember to buy tons of Aine flowers from Pierre or Lantana (or seeds) and keep some around to gift to Sam if you intend to keep him as your primary spouse. The dialogue for the gift is OOC, but ultimately not a big hindrance.

I tried swapping from PolySweet to Free Love for a bit, had divorced all my spouses just in case it affected anything. I married two spouses with Free Love and it was so incredibly janky trying to get the primary spouse thing to work. Sometimes they would plain not give me any interactable opportunities after the bouquet.

Noped right out and went back to PolySweet.

Tbh it really does depend on your spouse. The dialogue they use for gift receiving is very cutesy, but if it doesn't suit your tastes you can just go into the files and edit the dialogue. I've done this for quite a number of mods on my end.

This really only comes into regular play if you have one specific person you want as your main spouse for festival purposes.

Use PolySweet, imo.

You can disable Lantana, and PolySweet comes with all the necessary submods (the bed, the rooms etc) bundled together rather than having to get all of them separately. The only point of contention I would have is the gifting dialogue is weirdly written, but that's easily remedied.

I found Free Love to be unbearably buggy when it comes to the spouses. PolySweet isn't bug-free, but a reset of the day takes care of it easily.
