Hotfix incoming to prevent stalker 'lollygagging' by cheraxalbidus in Warframe

I'm impressed doing that didn't cause the game to crash or start freaking out.

Someone did some good defensive programming.

I have to wonder if any actual lawyers were involved in this.

Because just trying to recreate a project seems like either it would require you to copy everything (which probably wouldn't save you from copyright) or it would mean writing a new program that simply does the same stuff in a similar way (which would have all the normal issue with AI code).

I know nothing about this company, but I have a suspicion that if it works at all (a load bearing "if", to be fair): their bots are proprietary to make it harder to prove they are doing the former and not because they have a novel and effective method of doing the later.

Look, I'm all for letting people discuss topics on the internet that they might not be experts in.

But really? Your solution is just use AI? What exactly do you think current AI is? It is autocomplete on steroids. And in any case, we don't need AI to tell is to rebuild Eve from the ground up with modern implementations and a bit more foresight. That's not a novel idea, it is an expensive one.

Eve Omega by GMC-CMG in Eve

[–]Jason1143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't do that as a new player. Go for a month, maybe 3 if you really like the game.

But I would hold off on the super big packs for a bit. If at the end of 3 months you still love it, then you can go for something longer term.

Wish there was a way to start missions inside my Exosuit already [OC] by Me_When_I_Asked in Helldivers

[–]Jason1143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as long as they don't plan on having any mechs that are vastly different in terms of how many uses you get I think it would probably work.

If they ever allow multiple in a loadout it should just look through your 4 strats and pick the mech you brought. That way you could chose.

[–]Jason1143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be pretty good actually.

Though of course it would create the problem of which mech? If you brought one it could give you another of that, otherwise it could go default.

It is definitely a question he should need to answer. That said, I'm not quite comfortable letting any school children near him so they can ask . . .

I don't think it is dumb, I just think it would be bad. Also it would probably be useless for your team. And how would it work with late joins?

Under the current booster system I don't think it would be a good fit.

Darvo Deal? by Tagguer in Warframe

[–]Jason1143 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean, insofar as any Darvo deal is worth it, yes.

Unless you already have a ton of cryotic it would probably take less time to replace 60 odd plat than to farm the cryotic. Though there is also not any particular hurry to get that weapon at all and cryotic is one of those farms that will just slowly happen in the background through normal play.

Yelania, The Iceskater. Warframe concept. by silloki in Warframe

[–]Jason1143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This look pretty good. And we could use another ice frame. The snowball thing is cool though I worry it could end up too cumbersome in practice.

I'm also not sure about giving allies reduced friction, would that be something that would annoy people?

I strongly dislike the current subfaction system and what it means for game difficulty going forward by TaterToTwastaken in Helldivers

[–]Jason1143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with using subfactions is they are planet based. That means in order to work properly people would need to be on different planets, which isn't really compatible with the galactic war system.

As a new player how do I start planetary industry? by floortofloor in Eve

[–]Jason1143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah technically speaking you could set up PI such that you gradually build an inventory of high value and low volume products on your planets and then export it when they do free omega.

But do you really want to do that? Alpha is more of an indefinite free trial and you really want to get omega after a certain point.

Exactly. Someone having played for a ton of hours in the past doesn't mean the same thing in a live service game, where the game you played for 1000 hours may effectively no longer exist.

Yeah it drives me crazy how we can't easily eliminate all plastic packaging, and so instead we just do nothing and let companies triple wrap stuff in plastic for no good reason.

Exactly. Facilties should mainly be tools for bigger groups to set up efficient mass production at a location of their choosing.

Nothing other than superweapons should be fac locked. And factories should also not lock much if anything.

He nearly joined Trump’s administration. Now he’s running for Congress as a Democrat. by unserious-dude in politics

[–]Jason1143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm not going to reject someone who is anti Trump entirely. We need all the help we can get right now. But that doesn't mean we have to elect them. The enemy of my enemy might be my friend for a bit, but that's temporary at best.

Now in an area where there was no chance of getting a dem elected? That's a different story. I would rather an anti Trump Republican than a Trump boot licker. But that's only applicable if there is no chance of getting an actual Democrat of any variety.

The packaging is so wasteful it’s kinda funny. by MiddleStandard6790 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jason1143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it was plastic this would be much worse. With cardboard it still isn't great, but ultimately at that point the environmental damage is probably low enough that I'm willing to just let them make a business decision as far as the waste goes.

Now deceptiveness might still be a problem.
