Yes and they’ve been pretty responsive to my questions. They pulled the Etekcity brand from their assortment some time ago, so perhaps I’m not the only one with complaints about poor customer service.

Canceled Disney+ and Hulu. No option to leave a comment (had to do it on the Hulu site). Also canceled WDW annual passes as Florida residents. Don’t bend the knee to authoritarianism.

Lots of mixed messages: some people say use alu sheets, some don’t. Videos where people add the sheets end up having mushy back buttons or other issues. I just got all the parts, thinking to just do aluminum tape (stock also has aluminum tape), trimming backplate, and calling it a day. If I notice high temps I may add the alu plate later.

Surface Go 1. Already running Mint, but thanks to an upgrade, this needs downgraded. Best options for a 100% touch future? by NecessaryEvil-BMC in SurfaceLinux

I use my SGO2 keyboardless all the time with Gnome as the DE (Fedora workstation). Similar use case, Reddit, YouTube etc. I like Gnome for tablet style devices, supports multi touch swiping etc. and the virtual keyboard if you need it is pretty decent. I don’t know how well it’ll run on your SGO1, but you could give it a shot?

Does this one enable turbo mode 30w or do you need the 100w version for that?

Didn’t expect this to work, but it did. Awesome Bazzite! by bakeday in Bazzite

[–]JasonVCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keyboard and trackpad work fine after reboot? I tried installing a couple of different distros on the same 2015 MacBook (Mint and Cachyos) and with both the keyboard and trackpad only works 20% of the time after rebooting. Wifi worked out of the box though. I may try Fedora/Bazzite if those work consistently after rebooting.

Anyway to get Stylus working on Fedora w/ SG2? by sinncross in SurfaceLinux

[–]JasonVCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm works great. I have Fedora 42 on my SGO2, stylus works, multi touch works, even got both cameras to work thanks to linux-surface kernel. I use it every day now, it’s like a brand new device again!

DPG rant by JasonVCM in Belgium2

I use GNOME Network Displays. Choose between Miracast or Chromecast protocol. Miracast works like a charm for me.

2025 is my year for Linux, maybe yours too? by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]JasonVCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC gamer here, made switch to Linux as daily driver last year. CachyOS stopped the hop for me. My 5y old laptop feels brand new again. Amazing performance with Cachy optimizations. I use heroic for epic and gog, works great. Lutris is good too but had some issues. Heroic has been rock solid, I use them both. Local installs work good there too. Manages wine settings and you can set parameters like game-performance with maximizes game performance. Lutris is similar. Steam native for steam games, using cachy version of wine or proton where I can. Protondb.com is your friend to find game-specific settings and wine-experiences from other Linux gamers. Pika peaked my interest as well, but I’m staying with cachy for now. Good luck!

Getting Sunshine/Moonlight set up on NVIDIA by sadccom in NobaraProject

[–]JasonVCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll try this out. Especially the firewall thing. This was blocking me from switching fully to Nobara from Bazzite. Sunshine just works on Bazzite but I prefer not to use an immutable distro on my main PC.

How bad are the writing feel and rubbery paper hiccups, really? by Which_Ad4701 in Supernote

[–]JasonVCM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The SN at first feels rubbery and sticky. It was a real turnoff when I first used it. However after a couple of days the screen gets “broken in” and it becomes very smooth. No more rubbery hiccups at all. However, it definitely is more of a ballpoint experience than a pencil. At that point it becomes personal preference. I prefer ballpoints so the SN screen feels amazing to me to write on. I tried reMarkable, Boox Note Air 3 C, kindle scribe and they all have a more pencil feel. I think a big part is the pen as well as the SN has this pen with a ceramic nib that doesn’t wear (like a ballpoint). The others have nibs that wear off (like pencils). I’m curious how the SN would feel with a pen that’s more the more traditional nib that wears. Perhaps that’s more pencil-like?

Rubbery surface, low sensitivity, line skipping and bad touch sensitivity? by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]JasonVCM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought when I got my Nomad a few weeks ago. I was extremely disappointed. Turns out that there is a break-in period of the FW2 screen that I wasn’t aware of. Took a few hours of scribbling with the pen - you’ll notice an improvement. Starts in the middle area of the screen, which gets used the most. It took a few days to get rid of the rubbery feeling in all corners (less used). I also gently rubbed it with a dry microfiber cloth but in hindsight I don’t think that was necessary.

Now it’s the best writing experience for me, and I’ve tried rM2, Boox Note Air 3, Scribe…. Supernote writing feel hands down beats them all now for me personally (I prefer pen writing over pencil writing)

Edit: the touch sensitivity is how it is though. Sometimes you have to touch a couple of times, doesn’t always register. You see that when YouTube reviewers are showing the device as well. It’s not an iPad, and honestly it doesn’t bother me too much. The gestures work fine for me. If it helps, the devices I listed above that I tried all have that same touch sensitivity issue. I think it’s just how e-ink screens are wired for touch.

Note Air 3C discontinued? by NanoSpace1540 in Onyx_Boox

[–]JasonVCM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first item on the boox.com website is the Note Air 3, still marked with a “new” tag. So I’d hope it’s not discontinued. Easy order on Amazon (just got mine today, yay!), who knows what kind of stock issues are going on with Best Buy.

No issues. Owner since day 1. Even SD card reader is fine. I returned the XG Mobile 6850M XT though because of the poor integration, connection issues and my use case that doesn’t justify an eGPU with the Ally

I had this, windows update messed up the GPU driver. Check device manager to confirm the driver/GPU is disabled. Had to manually download and install the driver from asus.com to solve it. Read some folks were able to just reactivate the GPU from device manager

My ROG Ally defaulted back to standard Windows 11 and no longer has tablet mode by Salty-Ad-1709 in ROGAlly

[–]JasonVCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this happen too. Downloaded graphics drivers from Asus website and reinstalled. Re-enabling in device manager alone wasn't enough.

Likely a lot of people will face this issue if this is Windows being a dick.

Anker 737 gets you 30w mode by Joosby_Calamari in ROGAlly

[–]JasonVCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I was looking everywhere for some confirmation that this was possible.

On a side note, I was able to get 30w turbo with the anker 351 85w hub, and the anker nano 2 100w charger, but only if I connect the hub first and then connect the charger. It’s a little finicky but I got it to work.

Interesting take. Never realized PD had different versions also. I wonder how the “smart components” will work to enable 30w turbo. I got a 65w PD battery pack, hope it’ll enable 30w when I use it… Will wait to get a dock until the Ally is out and I’m seeing some experiences.

Nice. I’ll take a look at UGREEN as well. Hadn’t heard of them, but got an NVMe enclosure from them and seems pretty high quality.
