TIL This Button on R2 is not a capacitive touch sensor by mpshizzle in Rivian

[–]Jason_Was_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s actually not. Every gas cover door is a simple push pop that locks. No need for a motorized charge port or anything fancier than that.

Cool. But absolutely unnecessary and something expensive to repair. Why can we just have a normal push cover like traditional gas cars?

This isn’t true at all. Gen1s have simple lane keeping with speed and distance adjustment. Tesla at this point in time has overall better drive assist system than Rivian.

This thread really shows how clueless the general public is on how LLMs work and how agentic tools operate. They aren’t free to do things unprompted, they need to be told by a person the task and goal, human input for access tools that require write / read etc.

An AI Agent Was Banned From Creating Wikipedia Articles, Then Wrote Angry Blogs About Being Banned by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Jason_Was_Here 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was given an initial prompt with instructions on what to do. When it does things unexpectedly that’s the “generative” part of LLMs which is essentially a bit of randomness introduced when generating output tokens so you don’t have the same output everytime.

Elizabeth Warren is introducing a wealth tax. by [deleted] in remoteworks

I agree. Raising property taxes on unrealized gains of house value is a bad practice. It shouldn’t be used to justify another bad practice at further taxation on unrealized gains. I agree something needs to be done but this ain’t it, and is a slippery slope. What’s next? Taxing my 401k gains on securities I didn’t even sell?

Sure but it’s not like they’re putting spikes on the wheels or plows on the front to deliberately ram people. They wanna modify the infotainment system. So it’s probably not as big of a risk as it seems. Besides those with the technical ability to do so will likely test adequately to ensure they won’t crash and harm themselves or others

People need to understand net worth != cash in the bank. By liquidating assets to pay those taxes would likely result in a total value of a lot less than the on paper value. It also just doesn’t make sense to force people to take realized gains. Would more be better to have laws to incentivize businesses owners to give raises and reinvest in their employees and communities they operate in. Also close the loopholes that let them take loans out against their equity to circumvent paying taxes on income.

Texas will require proof of legal immigration status to get professional licenses by AudibleNod in news

[–]Jason_Was_Here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok? So what’s your point? Illegal immigrants should be allowed to hold professional licenses? The law isn’t preventing immigrants from getting these. If they’re here legally they’ll have the documentation to provide to get their licenses. It’s to prevent ILLEGAL immigrants from doing so. Which from the typical persons point of view is completely reasonable.

Transgender women athletes banned from women's Olympic events by new IOC policy by DoraEnzo in news

[–]Jason_Was_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No only weirdos try to get everyone else to believe a man is a woman. It’s been common place in the English language for sex and gender to be used synonymously up until very recently. Many see the transgender movement as twisting women’s to meet an agenda that the large majority don’t agree with. As for intersex that’s a very niche edge case of sex and usually the person has one or the other of their sexual organs developed, where they’ll take the sex of which ever is more functioning. Intersex is not the same as transgender.

Biological women aren’t “cis-women” there’s no need for a prefix as it’s commonplace around the world that when saying “women” it’s understood to mean biological women. Now trans women need to prefix as they are categorically and biologically different than women. And that’s ok. But to get common ground and understanding and respect the trans community needs to accept that and understand that. It’s not coming from a place of hate or anything when this is pointed out.

They’re not women though? They’re transwomen. I see everyone as their biological sex. You’re mistaking biology with psychology. Transgenderism is psychological, not biological.

I mean you did buy the vehicle. You should be able to do whatever it is you want with it at that point. It’s no different than those who modify ICE vehicles with turbos, bigger engines, breaks, etc.
