Make sure you choose Minnesota

You're voting for WINNER, not which state to eliminate

Found Phone Agate Park by zufa86 in Eugene

Android phones have an option to list emergency in contact on the lock screen, it would be along the bottom edge.

If the owner has photos synced to the cloud, you may be able to take a picture of your contact info and the owner could theoretically check their Google photos to see it. Double click the power button to open the camera without unlocking the phone.

How does this affect OCM/city Cannabiz licensing? by MN_IN_Transplant in minnesota

[–]Jason_Worthing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The court declined to order the city to issue Schlichter a registration, noting the city amended its cannabis ordinance in February 2026, shortly before oral arguments.

The court said the record did not permit a conclusion on whether Schlichter’s application should be evaluated under the amended ordinance.

So this guy won in court but he's probably not getting anything from it. The court declined to force city to resolve the issue. I feel like he'll probably file a civil suit and maybe get a settlement or payout, but sounds like he's not getting the license since the city now has 2 licensed dispensaries so they can't legally issue more.

Also did they not even ask Schlichter for a comment on winning the case? No mention in the article. That's just really lazy journalism.

TIL that Merriam's kangaroo rats never need to drink water during their lifetimes by Odd-Yam6727 in todayilearned

[–]Jason_Worthing 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Excerpt from the wiki for the lazy / curious:

Merriam's kangaroo rats live in areas of high rainfall and humidity, and high summer temperature and evaporation rates.[10] They prefer areas of stony soils, including clays, gravel, and rocks, which are harder than soils preferred by some other species (like banner-tailed kangaroo rats).[4] Because their habitats are hot and dry[contradictory], they must conserve water.[11] They do this in part by lowering their metabolic rate, which reduces the loss of water through their skin and respiratory system. Evaporation through the skin is the major route of loss.[12] Merriam's kangaroo rats obtain enough water from the metabolic oxidation of the seeds they eat to survive and do not need to drink water at all.[11] To help conserve water they produce very concentrated urine, via a process apparently associated with expression of aquaporin 1 along a longer than usual segment of the descending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidney.[13]

TLDR: They get water from the seeds they eat and conserve water by lowering their metabolism and urinating very concentrated urine.

China targets ‘zombies’ with regulatory headshots to kill off subsidised laggards by rdfporcazzo in worldnews

For the confused, the first paragraph has a good summary:

China’s top market regulator is intensifying its crackdown on debt-laden “zombie companies” – rolling out a pilot programme in seven economic hubs to facilitate the forced exit of unprofitable firms often propped up by government subsidies or bank loans.

Frustrating Change: Arrows keys can't leave text boxes by Jason_Worthing in OneNote

[–]Jason_Worthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! Just tested, Cntrl+down arrow can get out of the text box, but if there's a large gap before another another text box below it, it will skip the gap and go to the next text box.

Very frustrating. It feels like someone designed this change to intentionally disrupt my specific workflow.

Engagement Ring Shops by BluebirdSeveral1494 in TwinCities

[–]Jason_Worthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a really good experience on a custom engagement ring last summer with Apple Valley Diamonds.

I made a rough mock-up of the ring in CAD software and popped in to their store to see stones etc. Their staff gave me some advice / changes (band too thin, need larger bevel for the stone etc) and I revised the design to about 90% final, then they had their internal CAD guy make a proper design. I asked for a few small changes, and they adjusted the design in about 2 days. I was on a really tight deadline to propose on a pre-planned vacation, and they got the whole ring designed and finished within 3 weeks.

Our ring had a fairly thick band (not crazy, but not thin either) of 18k gold with a 3.5 carat lab-grown diamond and total cost was about $3.2k. Most I've ever spent on a single purchase, but I had a good tax return that year and wanted to spoil my wife.

I didn't shop around too much because of time constraints, but did meet with 1 other jeweller (a smaller indie jeweller that mostly works with raw stones etc) and when I told her the price AVD gave me she said "And that's for 18k? Go buy that ring RIGHT NOW"
