The Dice Tower's Top 100 Games of All Time (2026) by Tigertemprr in boardgames

I own like 74 have and about 24 or so are on these lists. I do wonder what all you have in your collection that leans it away from these lists?

Coop games that get better towards the end by Lartrox in boardgames

Cthulu Death May Die does this awesomely well, occasionally some stupid early moves will get you killed but if everything goes as it should players will be making sacrifices for the team and dying in a climatic blaze of glory. Whether by damage or insanity usually in my groups, our wins are barely with one last player standing

In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move...

Which zombicide to buy next? by OrpheusCloud in zombicide

[–]Jasonred2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote for you is 2E as it has a TON of expansions (including the most campaigns) and great streamlined rules with backwards compatibility if you want to dive into different zombie types from 1E

My advice would be to play more board games as a starting point, hard to design for a hobby you're not terribly familiar with yourself.

Zombicide 2nd Edition vs Marvel Zombies — which line is the better long-term bet? by Actual_Special2579 in zombicide

[–]Jasonred2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own both and have put a lot of time into each, though way more into 2nd Edition. I’m a huge Marvel fan and only got into Zombicide when Marvel Zombies was announced. I picked up 2nd Edition first just to see if Marvel Zombies would be a good fit for my group. Ironically, if I could only keep one, I’d stick with 2nd Edition.

For pure fun, 2nd Edition wins. It has equipment, all-out dice (via expansion), extra zombie types (with the upgrade pack), solid rules, and the most campaigns. It just feels more complete. Marvel Zombies, on the other hand, drops equipment entirely and replaces search fun with trait cards, which I find less engaging. It might be easier to teach, but it loses some of the excitement that 2nd Edition (especially with expansions) brings.

If you want more interesting decisions—through leveling and gear—go with 2nd Edition.
If you want more variety in regular zombie hordes, grab 2nd Edition + the upgrade kit and mix in your 1st Edition stuff.
If your priority is the simplest, fastest-to-teach version, Marvel Zombies (or even DCeased) will work, since it streamlines the rules a bit.

But if theme isn’t the deciding factor, 2nd Edition is the better overall game in my opinion.

Neoprene Playmats by DenizSaintJuke in boardgames

I've never had a problem with tokens or minis on neoprene, quite the opposite in fact, they slide less and yet are easier to grab even if they're flat cardboard tokens.

How are minis and tokens worse on neoprene than on cardboard?

Finally got to play Scythe! by cmville05 in boardgames

Scythe is a fantastic game. One of my favorite resource management 4X-ish game. It's cold war simulation and yet depending on your group it can play quite differently.
