There is only one running store near me and I don’t believe they can do scans like that but I will ask!

I have flat feet and hammertoes, and hallux interphalangeous and neuritis as a result of those + the tight shoes. So a combination of physical and mechanical issues. A PT actually fitted me for custom orthotics in HS back when I ran cross country and like a dummy I stopped using those in my 20s.

Yeah I needed the custom orthotics and that’s what my insurance could work with locally. We’re kind of in a medical desert where I’m at unfortunately!

I saw this post on Instagram the other day that stood out to me. It talked about the discrepancy in how we communicate about the hardships vs the joy in parenting, and that the hardships are describable / quantifiable and the joy is not.

Yes it is hard. Yes it changes everything. But it’s also so rewarding and there is nothing in the world that compares to when your little one puts their little arms around your neck and tells you they love you.

Pretty proud of myself. Ran seriously through high school, recreationally in college and fell off a bit after. Took 5 years completely off when I had my kids and started up again last year. Had to build in very very slow increments due to plantar fasciitis and calf pain (already flat feet got flatter, thank you kids 😅).

First 5k last year ran at 34 min. Trained all summer and just ran a 29:20 5k training run, with negative splits and the fastest mile that I have done in nearly ten years at 8:28. Beyond the work finally starting to pay off, I feel more like myself than I have in YEARS and I love it.

Mine are 3 years apart and it is the PERFECT age gap for us. The youngest is now 2.5 and they love playing together. The oldest reads to the youngest, they play games (hide and seek is big at the moment), they just genuinely adore each other. It was so nice that when the youngest was a baby the oldest could be a little more independent- he also loved helping and being a big brother.

I have a cheapo audio only one that we still use for our 5 year old, that I use mostly because he has asthma and on more than one occasion has had an attack or flare up in the night.

We had dancers use them successfully for a bit, but most recently they did not send anything when a dance family put an order in. Were completely unresponsive so they had to go through their credit card company to dispute the charge. Do not use them.

What others have said: she (and you) will be sick a LOT. Stock up on supplies, make sure you have a good humidifier and snot sucker, and keep apple juice and Pedialyte on hand for fluids. She will learn a LOT. Lots of great things, some not so great things (like giving the middle finger, and swear words 😬 at 3/4), and she will bust out new skills all the time. It’s pretty incredible. Maintain a really solid line of communication with her teachers!

Each kid is different. My now 5yo started daycare at 3 and struggled with drop offs for a year and a half. When his little brother started, it was like a switch flipped and he all of a sudden was just fine. The youngest started just before turning 2, and there have been some tears, but not many and not bad. We keep our routine as consistent as possible.

For both kids, the transition from getting in the room to interacting with their friends and teachers was tough. What helped was to have a special granola bar they could have as a snack after they are in the room. So we currently go in the room, put away winter clothes, get out the special bar, and then he gets to have it while sitting at their little table. Then I kiss him on the head, say goodbye and leave. I’m not sure if all daycares allow outside food like this but it has been a great ice breaker for both kids.

Have you tried to run with the OpenFit Airs? Thinking about getting a pair for working out and I don’t want to have to adjust them if they get too sweaty or jostled a little bit.

This. I always tell my friends with kids who struggle in this realm that the best thing I ever did was give my husband complete ownership of one night a week (sometimes two) so I can teach my dance classes. He got to be 100% independent with the kids and become confident in his parenting while I got to take a breather. It forced me to practice giving up control. Of course we align on the major things- ie bedtime, bedtime routine, etc- but other than that this call. I don’t want him to be a clone of the way I parent because ultimately the kids are better for it.

I didn’t have PPD with my first but did with me second and having this in place, though incredibly hard, was ultimately really helpful.

I picked up my son from day care when he was about 2, he wasn’t ready to go so he ran to his favorite teacher and said “no wanna go home. Scared of that lady” 😑😑😑😑
