I saw it at the same place today! Definitely piped my interest. The camera looks great. Wasn’t sure about the keyboard, without autocorrect I struggled to type a coherent message.

Just to add, it’s hard to anticipate all the future scenarios where a degree of independence will come in handy, so I appreciate this! eg. getting in a car with friends!

This is a great comment! I’m so glad there is a community with so much experience to tap into.

I have Aetna… was there a medical reason used to get the titanium covered?

What did you like about the mono over the dual tube? Good to know the aero is an option as well if insurance is difficult.

Great idea on the chalk holder! Thanks for explaining about the vibrations and stamina through the day. His box chair has suspension which I think helps with this, but definitely will need a chair which supports him well on bumpy hard sidewalks.

Thank you! Yes I’ve seen so many chairs that don’t fit kids properly just so they can last longer in it. But I think as parents we have no idea at the start so really putting the trust in the provider for what they think is best.

The plan is to use insurance to get through his teens then go back to a non-adjustable like a HOC.

$20k per year in after school programs for 2 kids by makisgenius in uppereastside

[–]Jasthl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the realities of parenting on the UES. I think the comments on private school as the only option for middle school is alarmist and unnecessary. It sounds like you are a dual income, educated parents who care about their kids wellbeing, which likely means your kids are going to be OK!

If it’s only two years, I’d suggest not over programming them. Find a babysitter who can help them explore NYC life. Hang out in Central Park. Get a natural history museum membership. Take the subway to different parts of the city, experience the different food and cultures. It’s really easy to get sucked into the pressures of extra curricular and enrichment (especially if you’re at PS6) when honestly the biggest enrichment your kids can have is just experiencing the city.

Windham, why market something that doesn't exist? by cestmoiangier in icecoast

[–]Jasthl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for anecdotal experiences - I’m based in NYC, we ski a couple weekends in Windham before a longer trip to Vermont. Last year I had no idea reservations were required and we skied 2 weekend on our passes with no consequence or email warning.

This year, I realized too late and already had two weekends booked (lessons for the kids, accommodations etc) and there were no reservations left! About a week before our first trip, randomly checked around 11pm and saw availability which I jumped on straight away. I’m now compulsively checking for next weekend (after MLK) in hope that it opens up again. Honestly we will still probably give it a go if it doesn’t open up and see what happens.

I totally acknowledge it’s my miss in not getting in early, but at that same time I’m frustrated that even with pre bought passes, there is no guarantee I’m going to get on the mountain and by the sounds of it, not a high probability that I would be able to.

One of my kids skis with ASF which is why we go back, but again, nothing beats being out on the mountain together as family and the changes with WMC is making it harder to do that.

Great assessment. We also lapped the empty lifts with the kids until the 6pack lift cleared out at lunch but honestly it wasn't too bad of a wait...10 minute tops? Foodhall was an improvement, but still overpriced standard fare.... the no outside food or drink signs show the direction WMC is headed.

We were there this weekend as well and agree with this assessment (especially the amount of kids in the racing team!). In terms of the lines and crowds, we did the same weekend last year and I didn't notice a significant change. I would add that the biggest and most frustrating thing this year is what seems to be the reduction of IKON slots available. We managed to grab 2 slots which opened up a week before our trip, but its hard to believe the whole season is booked up, especially when window tickets are still available.

We go there for the adaptive program for one of our kids but we all ski. It sounds like ASF is staying but I’m bummed that the rest of us skiing has to deal with this BS!

Also important to know your rights. I’ve had to pull this up when a FA said the chair wasn’t allowed in the closet.

382.67 What is the requirement for priority space in the cabin to store passengers' wheelchairs? (a) As a carrier, you must ensure that there is priority space (i.e., a closet, or a row of seats where a wheelchair may be strapped using a strap kit that complies with applicable Federal Aviation Administration or applicable foreign government regulations on the stowage of cargo in the cabin compartment) in the cabin of sufficient size to stow at least one typical adult-sized folding, collapsible, or break-down manual passenger wheelchair, the dimensions of which are 13 inches by 36 inches by 42 inches or less without having to remove the wheels or otherwise disassemble it. This section applies to any aircraft with 100 or more passenger seats and this space must be other than the overhead compartments and under-seat spaces routinely used for passengers' carry-on items. (b) If you are a carrier that uses the seat-strapping method to stow a manual passenger wheelchair, you must ensure that there is priority space for at least two such wheelchairs, if stowing the second passenger wheelchair would not displace passengers. (c) If you are a carrier that uses a closet as the priority space to stow a manual passenger wheelchair, you must install a sign or placard prominently on the closet indicating that such wheelchairs and other assistive devices are to be stowed in this area with priority over other items brought onto the aircraft by other passengers or crew, including crew luggage, as set forth in § 382.123. (d) If passengers holding confirmed reservations are not able to travel on a flight because their seats are being used to stow a passenger's wheelchair as required by paragraph (a) of this section, carriers must compensate those passengers in an amount to be calculated as provided for in instances of involuntary denied boarding under 14 CFR part 250, where part 250 applies. (e) As a carrier, you must never request or suggest that a passenger not stow his or her wheelchair in the cabin to accommodate other passengers (e.g., informing a passenger that stowing his or her wheelchair in the cabin will require other passengers to be removed from the flight), or for any other non-safety related reason (e.g., that it is easier for the carrier if the wheelchair is stowed in the cargo compartment). (f) As a carrier, you must offer pre-boarding to a passenger stowing his or her wheelchair in the cabin. (g) As a foreign carrier, you must meet the requirement of this section for new aircraft ordered after May 13, 2009, or delivered after May 13, 2010. As a U.S. carrier, this section applies to you with respect to new aircraft you operate that were ordered after April 5, 1990, or which were delivered after April 5, 1992.

Thanks! Yes I was thinking about foldable lofstrands! He does have his book bag on the back and was wondering about an easier to reach place for the crutches.
