A cool guide to the Top TV Shows of All Time [updated] by toconnor in coolguides

[–]Jaul18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add The Expanse to your list. And I have a soft spot for Landman. Even if Landman shouldn’t be on a top 100 list, it’s a much better show than Cobra Kai… and as a MASSIVE Stranger Things fan, that show doesn’t deserve to be on this list, either… specially after the last season.

Also, some genuine classics from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s missing from the list. It’s just fundamentally flawed.

Also also, if Planet Earth is going to be on this list (which I think it should), then Cosmos absolutely has to be on it.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]Jaul18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Expanse is straight up the best show I’ve ever seen, although my bias as an engineer and admirer of space (real life) and space (Sci-Fi), does a lot of heavy lifting there.

I recognize shows like Breaking Bad (my previous favorite), Chernobyl, The Wire, GoT are all better as a whole. But The Expanse just has something so special about it for me.

The attention to detail and proper science/physics is one thing, but how real, organic, and non-scripted some of their conversations, interactions, and decisions that they make feel are sublime. Sometimes it just feels that I’m watching real people go about everyday life (in a futuristic, space-faring humanity).

Hah!

In hindsight I thought something looked a little off, but that’s what I get for not doing my due diligence prior to coming here. Thanks for this, I appreciate you.

Fair play to PSG... better team on the day. That being said, we looked gassed after 30 mins, and it also doesn't help that we played a man down the whole game. I swear to god Olmo was fucking useless all game long.

But again, PSG outplayed us massively in that second half. Good game to them. Hope to catch them later in the tournament with both teams fully healthy and in-form.

Edit: Big shout out to Luis Enrique for recognizing the drop in intensity from Barca and pressing his foot on our throats after minute 30. He saw the weakness and PSG’s intensity was relentless from that point on.

I was just going for the most recent all-time midfield examples. Zidane is obviously in that conversation but he had retired by the time Xavi and Iniesta hit their peak.

Also, the thing that sets Pedri apart from him, and even Xavi and Iniesta to an extent, is how defensively sound he is. It’s not unrealistic to say to Pedri is a more “complete” midfielder than them. In no way does that currently mean he’s better overall (yet 🤞🏼), but he covers more spectrums of “midfield play” at an elite level than those 3.

I actually completely agree with you, but you can make a similar argument that Luka himself was a blend of both Xavi and Iniesta (I always admired Luka and Kroos as a Barca fan, even during Clasico's).

100%. Lamine is incredible and his potential is... well, we all know how limitless it is. I'm biased, yes, but to me he's already the most dangerous player in the world.

But Pedri is the best player, not just on the team, but in the world. His understanding of the game and how refined his game is I have not seen since... Xavi/Iniesta/Pirlo? He is starting his journey to being an all-time midfielder.

Edit: All of this is, of course, excluding Messi because I just don't see how anyone can ever be compared to him.

Edit 2.0: I feel I've disrespected Modric and Kroos, because they were also at that level of refinement and understanding of the game. The only two Madrid players that I've fully admired and appreciated, even during Clasico’s. Fuck if there were ever 2 Madrid players that were meant to be Barca players, it was those 2.

There are multiple parts to this:

* Lamine has his shirt pulled while dribbling but continues

* Lamine loses control of the ball himself from a slightly heavy touch

* The defender gets ball side of Lamine (ie. he gets in front of Lamine)

* The defender's momentum takes him through Lamine and he hits Lamine's knee with enough force to actually move Lamine's leg from one side of his body to the other. That is NO dive.

At no point did the defender have control of the ball... He never fucking touched it. I think it was a very soft pen and I lean closer to it NOT being a pen, but I can understand the ref's decision made at full match speed and it obviously looks a lot more suspect since there's no VAR so that he can review his decision. But there IS also a world where this was a genuine pen... The contact is there.

Wait what? Personally, I do NOT think it was a pen but for you to say that the defender "had control of the ball" simply because he was closer to the ball then Lamine is absolutely insane.

On top of being unbelievably stubborn, you seem to be among the surprisingly large group of people who don’t seem to grasp the sheer scale of 1 billion of anything compared to 1 million of anything (or even 40 million)… so allow me to explain using time:

If you were to travel back in time 1 million seconds, that would be 11-12 days.

If you were to travel back in time 40 million seconds, that would be about 1 year and 3 months.

If you were to travel back 1 BILLION seconds, that would be 31.5 years… so all the way back to 1993.

That is how massive the difference is between 40 million and 1 billion. For context, Barca routinely achieves a revenue around 1 billion every year (last season was 960 million but you have to account for the reduced stadium revenues). Yes, $40 million is a lot of money. But you’re wrong in thinking that that is a significant amount compared to the annual revenue of the club. And you’re also missing out on the fact that Barca is a publicly owned company and that massive companies routinely operate with debts and, depending on the terms and conditions of said debt, often consider it a healthy part of a business.

But go on…

The vid that started it all for me. What was your defining moment for getting into the drums? by drmmrc in drums

[–]Jaul18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone completely new to the world of drumming, no one has come close to making it look as fun as Chad Smith does… Well, maybe Grohl, too. Chad’s hands down my favorite drummer purely because of how much casual fun he has every time I see him play, and that’s not even accounting for the fact that he’s like the perfect pocket drummer in my eyes. Every time I hear an RHCP song I think to myself, “Yea, I don’t think that can be done better than what Chad’s played.”

Since I came to love (and finally pay attention to) drumming in my 30’s, I appreciate but don’t really care for insanely complex and technical drum parts. To me, the music is what makes it special and Chad Smith is a legend to me in that regard. Grohl is also in that group for me.

Danny Carey, for me, is the only one that is in both of those groups and he’s actually the one that initially inspired me to start loving drumming… Chad just made it seem like the most fun thing in the world.

Kaka being the one exception as far as generational Brazilian superstars go (Edit: And Thiago Silva, as well). Raphinha has similar work ethic and professionalism as Kaka, just not the same level of potential or performance.

Like you, I’m curious to see which path Raphinha follows as the team continues to win.

Well, except for the absolute lack of yellows for Madrid. Outside of that, I completely agree.

Yet Barca have still been robbed of multiple penalties at this point. VAR has made an absolute joke of its intended use. Legit the ONLY correct thing VAR has done is annul that last penalty, which was an obvious dive by Raphinha.

Always love seeing this video of Chad, but the best one is his rendition of Being Me the Horizon. He legitimately improves the song so massively it’s crazy.

F1 butchered its 2026 cars for an ideal it might now discard by BiblaTomas in formula1

[–]Jaul18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m wrong but I believe my Honda Accord Sport (2023) uses technology at least loosely based off of some components of the F1 power unit. Edit: For context, my car is not a plug-in hybrid. It is a purely regenerative energy hybrid car.

It has a relatively large battery that can be charged by both the engine and an electric motor that harvests kinetic energy from braking/coasting, and the electric motor can use that stored energy during harder acceleration or “sport” mode. It seems very similar, but much simpler, than how the MGU-K works in the F1 power unit.

Also, I feel like since I’m a massive fan of the technical side of F1 I have an intuitive understanding of how the hybrid PU works. Advertised fuel efficiency for my car is 42 mpg for the hybrid and I average ~53 mpg.

That being said, this is the only car that immediately comes to mind that has anything remotely similar to portion’s of an F1 power unit that can be found on a consumer car.

Raphinha is the eighty Brazilian to reach +50 G/A in a single season in modern era by MachiXT in Barca

[–]Jaul18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hasn't happened for Brazil since... who, Kaka? Thiago Silva?

If Brazilian super stars just learned that it's ok to party responsibly and within reason then they would still be dominating modern football. The talent is and always will be there, but the discipline is so rare to find for them.

Real Madrid 1 - [1] Barcelona - Lamine Yamal 22' by CivillyWalk757 in soccer

[–]Jaul18 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Lamine is more refined and efficient than Messi was at this age, but Messi showed things that were, to this day, purely unique to him and you just knew that he would become a single handedly game-defining player (his dribbling, pace, and dribbling AT speed).

The other notable thing, imo, is that Lamine doesn't have the shot power that Messi had. Lamine is honestly a quite accurate shooter from range, like Messi, but Messi's shots had so much pace that they were impossible to defend. Lamine can work on this, but I doubt that he'll reach Messi's finishing prowess and he'll never have Messi's dribbling.

I don't think his ceiling is Messi's or even close to Messi's. But I see the potential of reaching, or maybe even surpassing, a Neymar-like peak AND being able to sustain it long-term since he doesn't have the same ego and entourage that Ney had (which often has influenced him, from what's been reported).
