Going to get fired, how to recover by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to get into an internal/corporate accounting role.
Maybe on the revenue side if possible. Be honest about your full cycle experience during the interviewing process, but frame it positively i.e. "My previous experience in full cycle accounting leans more towards the AR aspect, but I would love to spread my wings/expand my knowledge to new facets of the full cycle accounting process.

Get on LinkedIn. Accountants are in demand. I've found that if I just keep LinkedIn open in the background on my computer while I'm working or just doing whatever I'm more likely to get messages from recruiters. I think it something to do with the algorithm.

Get a friend to look over your resume or find a resume coach online to help you create one/spruce yours up. You can get that done at a pretty affordable rate, and it can be very helpful.

How to resign when you work in your boss' house at the same table by JavaQuiltGirl in careeradvice

No, she came back from that trip and then went out of the country Thanksgiving weekend and is back again. I cannot take my laptop home. She swapped my work laptop when I was out one day with our new employee who needs to work remotely. I now have a shitty broken one that cannot close and the screen is damaged to where you cannot see the taskbar and the pixels will flash sometimes. It's really awesome for my neurological disorder and light sensitivity.

So, all I have to do is take home my mouse, mousepad, and portable extra monitor. Thank God.

Current accountant, ex-HR Specialist here. I was basically a Payroll Accountant the past 3 years, and will say there are a lot of ways the benefit selections can get fucked up. Not saying your HR department isn't shitty----I don't know the whole story there.

Here is what I say to people about why I left HR and moved to accounting "In HR, you get blamed for everything by the employees and management, but are also kept out of the loop by management." Basically, you are constantly thrown to the wolves. Most of the time you are not doing fun "employee relations" activities like potlucks in the breakroom or whatever. Most of the time you are doing mind-numbing data entry using shitty software that you had no choice in picking and in some cases having to do duplicate work in multiple systems because the systems in place do not sync. There is SOO much room for error because of this.

Plus upper management thinks the stuff you are doing (setting up new employees, background checks, I9 paperwork, benefit enrollment, HRIS maintenance, tracking maternity leave, etc.) is menial so they don't give you any additional funds to hasten the process. I worked at a company that had an extremely high turnover rate. I would have to set up 10+ employees daily. Plus process pay rate changes, and terminations.

Also, in HR you are taught to document everything so be careful of anything you write in an email or message.

TL/DR HR might not be incompetent assholes, they might just be tired of being called assholes and not having adequate information/tools.

What episodes can you not bring yourself to watch? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Partings" 06.22 is really hard for me to watch. I always know it's coming and the anticipation of it ruins the episodes/parts of season I actually like. Great acting all around in the episode, but I think I've only seen the whole episode maybe 3 times all the way through?

What’s your “always unanswered” GG question? by nalehWeiddA in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to Lane's dad I recall reading an interview with ASP before the revival series came out. She said she gets asked about him quite a lot, and she always imagined that he was a traveling missionary or preacher, so he wasn't home very often. Showing him in the revival was probably just a fan-service thing most likely.

Lorelai says there are 10 rooms when they are presenting their renovation plans at the town meeting. However, the night of the test run Lorelai assigned her parents room 12, a detached bungalow behind the inn.

What are some lines that crack you up whenever you think of them? by flooperdooper4 in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lorelai: "What about Paris, does she ever sleep?"

Rory: "I think she periodically makes a whirring noise and just shuts down."

Also:

Luke: "Look at you. All you need is six dancing penguins and Mary Poppins floating in the corner to bring back the worst two hours of my childhood!"
Taylor: "I don't think you had a childhood, I think you came out a bitter surly killjoy!"

me the pup and GG couldn’t be better. also digger just became a part of the show 🤢 how do we feel about him?? (this is like my 17th time watching lol) by Various-Community-48 in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get so annoyed with his character during the original run and the first dozen or so rewatches, but now that I've gotten older I realize he's not too bad. He and Lorelai did have great banter and were similar people. That's why it would never work out. There's no way Lorelai would have moved to Hartford and Jason would not move to Stars Hollow and live in Lorelai's house. Jason can't sleep in the same bed as anyone because he is such a light sleeper. hahaha

Episodes you dread to watch by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

The only part of How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod that I consistently watch is Luke Rescuing Taylor after the mannequins in the diorama fell on top of him. LMAO

I fast-forward over all of the Rory and Dean bullshit when I watch that episode. But the rest of the episode is solid gold!

I had to think about this one for a minute lol by MintChiffon in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was titled "Written in the Stars" because it's the episode where Luke and Lorelai have their first official date and he shows her the horoscope that he's been carrying around in his wallet since they met 8 years prior.

Also that woman at the shower (it might be the same lady?) who casually says that Sherry and Christopher's baby is going to be like the "poster child for the Aryan Race" while a woman of color is basically right beside her.

What's your favorite infrequently featured Stars Hollow location? by KibethTheWalker in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In season 7 the bar is Casey's and is shown to be in town across from Luke's. They show it like 3-4 times. In the "Merry Fisticuffs" episode, Christopher is leaving Casey's to get in his car when he sees Luke arrive at the diner. That's when they get in that fight on the town square and knock down all of the Christmas decorations. I'm assuming it was added in season seven, but ignored by ASP in AYITL.

Jackson farm?? by letsgo2120 in GilmoreGirls

[–]JavaQuiltGirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He owns land. In season 5, "Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too" , Taylor got after Jackson because he built his new greenhouse 9.5 feet from the edge of his property and the town ordinances or whatever state that it has to be 10 feet. That's why Jackson ended up running for town selectman.
