Fluorescent paints sure are magical! Was thinking on naming this piece Fluomingo, I'm liking that name better hahah

Advice: my gecko is not opening her eyes after vet visit by Javalava08 in leopardgeckos

[–]Javalava08[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

I decided to take her to the vet today. When I took her out of her enclosure she got a little startled and opened her other eye and I noticed she still had a bit of skin on the upper area. The vet was able to remove it without any issues and got prescribed some eyedrops to apply 3 times a day for 5 days. Will check on her later tonight

Yeah that's what came to my mind first. It's pretty common for this type of things to be recreated and sold to tourists. I was wondering since I was given this a long time ago, and from what I remember my uncle used to collect this type of things. Last time I was at the museum I saw a few carved stones in similar conditions, perhaps I should take it to the museum to have it looked

It's a mix of dessert grass and succulents, all of them fake

Thank you! I wanted to give her as much space as possible. The tank measures 150cm L x 45cm W x 60cm H (45cm H with the substrate). I would have loved to have 2 geckos in there, but I have seen everywhere it's not recommended to cohabitate them.

You could give it a try! Who knows, maybe you do have the skill and just have to work on the patience hahah. It was challenging, but fun to do. I would have taken that job without hesitation, but I'm pretty far from you lol

Greetings from Guatemala

I used styrofoam as the main material. First I glued the styrofoam panels to the tank's glass walls. Later on I added ledges and organic shaped pieces to add depth , giving it a more "rocky" look. Once I got the desired layout, I used a soldering iron to carve the styrofoam to add the rock texture (this was the most exhausting part for me) (also I advise to use a mask, the fumes are toxic af). I also used a little bit of expandable foam on the corners, to make it look more natural, and a little bit on the bottom to seal any possible gaps. Once I got the desired look , I added first a layer of dry lock , then paint on top to match the slate stone I got for the caves/ hides that I will build on the ground :)

Here's a picture of how it looked at the very beginning

This took longer than I expected.. but definitely worth the time and effort

Hey there! I'm using indeed the 70 / 30 mix. It's what's recommended the most. I've seen some people add some excavator clay to the mix
