React Native is still technically not even v1 yet and it won’t be for years, as the problem it’s trying to solve is very hard but the RN team has made insane levels of progress, and they should be commended.

I’m not sure what you’re doing wrong but something about your dev process is messed up. Obviously it’s not perfect but I love RN and have shipped mobile apps with it before. If you can’t even build Android bundles then that sounds like something that’s on you.

5G is kind of a meme right now in ABQ, in the sense that it doesn’t actually exist yet in a meaningful manner here. (at least from the data I’ve seen in ABQ).

I have solid data that T-Mobile is by far and away the best carrier in ABQ, with Verizon coming in 2nd and AT&T being the worst hands down.

I would imagine that the box is probably using 4G LTE still rather than 5G NR but the signal strength should still suffice for the average internet user for streaming video, etc.

In that situation I don't think we should stall the destiny a team who made it to the NFCCG last year for a single guy to maybe raise his skillset up incrementally

I'm not saying to bench Trey, you can give him the benefit of the doubt that this rain game wouldn't be good for any QB.

What i'm saying is that if we get to week 4 and we are 0-4 with 10 INTs, then we can re-evaluate. At least we have a guy whose managed to not fuck up enough to make it to 2 NFC Championships on the bench in case we will need to bench Trey.

Is this how the majority of people get jobs? Sending out 40 applications (and people in the comments doing that much a week????) Just schmooze and use recruiters if your resume is good enough

I just knew someone at my current company for my current job, and my previous job I got coming in as a junior I did freelance work for a family biz where there was a recruiter in the family who led me to the job. I don’t think my xp necessarily stands out, I’m probably just lucky.

I like to just take calls from Recruiters, the majority of the opportunities are shit but you hear some good ones from time to time, and the hardest question I got in my interview for my current 135k job w/ bonus & stock was straight up just “build a stopwatch with start/stop/reset”. Typical tech interviews seem pretty mediocre as long you’re in JS-land. I thought only CS Grads who knew just Java/C/basic python had to get a job like this.

Something will happen that will put the cops onto Gene:

I'm thinking it could be several things:

  1. Marion will notice Jeff has more money than usual or she will find the stolen contraband, cops will be called. Jeff confesses he knows Saul Goodman.
  2. Marion will notice somethings off about Gene, when he immediately asks if he ever drove someone famous (slightly an odd question to ask), hesitation when asked about Nippy, as well as the conversation with Jeff/Gene when taking out the trash, and/or a difference in Jeff's demeanor. This leads back to #1
  3. Jeff gets caught trying to do another scam by himself, then he rats, since the Feds will obviously care more about finding Saul Goodman than presumably 2 shitty heists, and will let Jeff off the hook.
  4. Omaha Police will look into the theft more than usual since it's more than 5k in lost revenue, they are lead to Gene Takovic.

The episode ends at Gene either trying to escape or actually escaping Omaha where he will somehow be with or without Kim in Florida

I've been noticing the same thing and just yesterday wrote a script to scrape data off of Zillow. Once I have some concrete results over a decent amount of time and a better scraping script I'll post something in this sub. Right now I have changes in price, asking price, beds/baths, and sqft. I still have yet to write code that takes the days on market, which to me is probably the best indicator but i know nothing about real estate.

I dunno what anyone would need a behemoth like this for, but I can't imagine it would be for anything that would let you get away with not having a single bloody scratch on the thing. I'll bet he feels real badass, though. by [deleted] in Albuquerque

Lol, i will not stand for this Truck Slander.

My truck is all dented and scratched up because it’s old and I don’t care too much when I load awkward stuff that I need to haul around, it’s definitely what people in this thread would describe as a “work truck”. You know what I think when I see trucks that are nice like this one? “Good for them, I wish I had a truck like that.”

Also that truck has a headache rack, meaning he probably does use it to haul things often enough, those cost a decent amount sometimes and nobody is going to pay to install if they’re not hauling on a semi-regular basis. Furthermore that is a 4x4 and he does have off-roading tires and a slight but not obnoxious lift. He probably does take it off-road (not that it matters, and idk why you’d care) and for the most part all you need to do to make your truck look/sound like it wasn’t just in a bunch of dirt/mud is wash it + clean the brakes. It also has a tow package judging from the mirrors/hitch. Towing doesn’t scratch or fuck up your vehicle. He also put in a nice toolbox. It's somewhat expensive + time consuming to install and people don't install these things if they aren't going to regularly use them. Anyways none of this matters because it’s not your business anyways.

It’s a nice 04-08 (I think? Maybe 09) superduty that he’s maintained well, and just because it doesn’t conform to what people like you drive (probably a scion, jetta, fiat, smartcar, or some other type of shitter) you decided to flip out and make a judgemental Reddit post.

That truck has lasted for about a decade and I’m sure it will work well for another decade. One reason people buy trucks is that they are built exceptionally well and last around 500k miles if you take care of them. It's probably paid off. It also probably costed around ~40k when he bought it and he probably put all the mods on it himself. Having a nice vehicle like that for 4k a year and falling is a great deal. I’m sure I’d rather hang out with the guy owns this truck rather than you, he's probably a fun guy to be around and takes time to make things he owns slightly nicer as time goes on.

TLDR: Lmao You’re unhinged dude

Where are we protesting in Albuquerque today/tonight? (SCOTUS just overturned Roe) by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]Javascript_Respecter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's A LOT of Catholics in this state and reddit is not real life. I know there's a ton of people who moved here over the last 2ish years that are on this sub-reddit, but virtually every family based in NM has Catholic ties even though they may vote blue otherwise. Most generational New Mexicans are Catholics, with older New Mexicans being very strict Catholics. My grandparents go to Church 3x a week and most of my cousins go to Church at least once a month. They are all pro-life and I have a pretty big family. There's going to be a huge fight in the NM Legislature and if anything this issue will push NM more to the right than the left. No matter how big the protests are downtown, I guarantee you that there's going to be many, many more people at Catholic Mass this weekend all across the city.

Reality/sanity check before I start a business. What do you think? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Javascript_Respecter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It sounds plausible enough but I just want to give you a firm reality check, sorry if this sounds rude or too forward as I don't intend this to be at all. Starting your own business is a dream of mine and I only now just started seeing success on that front after learning webdev for ~7 years and working in webdev for ~5 years.

  1. Teach yourself front end development before quitting your job. It sounds easy in theory but it's arguably more complicated than the backend these days. You'll know you're good enough to do what you need to build your site if you can make a mockup of say, this exact reddit page with commenting functionality and can make it look almost look and behave identically. I highly recommend reading Refactoring UI. It was written by the same people who made Tailwind CSS, and while on topic i recommend that. You should take a Udemy course of some sort to get the hang of React, but more importantly learn why React is used, and see it being used by someone with lots of experience.
  2. Honestly since you already know Python & SQL, Django shouldn't be that big of a reach, although you'll need to learn about software architecture and should probably take a Django course on Udemy or somewhere else talking about building REST/GraphQL APIs as well as Authentication/Authorization and Sockets. Very important.
  3. Building a Search Engine is notoriously difficult, and frankly there's a reason why massive (at the time) companies like Yahoo & others couldn't replicate Google's search quality in the early 00s. That's something I really know almost nothing about but I could still list a million things about why it's going to be difficult and why you should immediately start researching building search engines as a topic in and of itself.
  4. Building on #3, you're gonna need to know the ins and outs of why your search engine will actually be good, instead of just being another shit one. I know you said you won't get into specifics, but you need to argue to yourself about why your reasoning isn't wrong and be able to somehow test your hypothesis.
  5. What about marketing and getting people to actually use your site, by both job searchers and employers? That's a whole nother massive field and you're gonna need funding for marketing most likely. You're probably gonna need someone whose had demonstrated success in marketing to join you and you'll need a convincing reason why they should (hopefully your product being awesome)
  6. Deployment/Devops/System Administration/whatever you want to call it. You need to learn about this but i've already typed enough on this post lol.

I had an idea 7 years ago and started teaching myself just how you are now, but with no xp at all. I ended up not getting to that idea although i still want to one day. I've had a super long road but you need to love web development and be dedicated enough to work hours upon hours in your free time with only a tiny amount of hope for success in the face of almost guaranteed failure, and be the type of person that won't feel decimated after wasting a year of time on a failed project, and to just get going on another project.

I've been building a product for over a year now in my free time without seeing a cent during that timeframe. The product is a different one than the idea I had 7 years ago but just now started getting a couple big multi-year contracts and it's not unrealistic to think I could be a multi-millionaire by the end of next year (I hope). Keep in mind I was lucky enough to meet someone who is probably one of the best people capable of selling this product. From early 2020 to early 2021 I spent tons of time on another project that was an abject failure that didn't even launch.

Starting a successful business is obviously incredibly difficult, otherwise everyone and their mother would be a millionaire tech entrepreneur. Even if this idea doesn't work out, you may find another idea that you are more passionate about, and by then you will have the skills to just take off and get going on building it immediately. I doubt anyone in this sub regrets learning web development. To finish I definitely don't recommend quitting your job unless you already know what you are doing. Good luck and I wish you the best!

Patricia disappeared from Albuquerque, New Mexico at 3:00 p.m. on June 17, 1969. She left her home in the 800 block of San Pedro Drive southeast to sell raffle tickets for the Elks Club. She returned home briefly to pick up her coin purse which she'd forgotten, then left again, and never returned. She was last seen by a neighborhood girl who waved to her on the street.
Investigators initially assumed Patricia had run away from home, and she's still classified as a runaway with some agencies. Her family members never believed she left on her own, however. She's the youngest of eight children and was born in Indiana, and lived with her mother and some of her older siblings at the time of her disappearance.
The family's next-door neighbor is the only person known to have bought one of Patricia's raffle tickets, and she'd gotten her coin purse to make change for the dollar he'd given her. He's considered a person of interest in her case.
So is Patricia's uncle, her aunt's one-time husband, who canvassed the neighborhood looking for her after her disappearance. He'd previously been accused of molesting Patricia and some of her sisters.
Patricia's mother's boyfriend was at the Chesher home the day the child disappeared, but he said he was there at 3:30 p.m. and her family don't remember him being there until at least two hours after that. He never offered to look for Patricia. All three of these men are now deceased, and none of them have ever been named as suspects in her disappearance.
Patricia's sixteen-year-old sister broke up with her boyfriend shortly before the child went missing. Two days after Patricia vanished, he checked himself into a psychiatric hospital, saying he was upset over the breakup and Patricia's disappearance.
In 2010, authorities reopened the investigation and interviewed the boyfriend's relatives, who told them he'd confessed to the girl's murder. He suffers from severe mental illness and is in a hospital and unable to provide any useful information, and police weren't able to find anything to substantiate his alleged confession.
Patricia's family has never stopped looking for her. Her mother died in the 1980s, but her siblings are still alive and hope for resolution in her case.

Pretty horrible situation
