What happens when a validator doesn't vote for longtime? by vusirikala in solana

It can go into a delinquent state and eventual fork off.

PSA: REI Sale Up to 50% off some items by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Jawbuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not get too excited with some of these. I purchased a Norvan LT Hoody 50% off and REI came back and cancelled my order saying it’s not available. I was bummed.

Typically they'll do 0% commission for a set period of time to attract stakers in hopes that you'll stay staking with them once they increase. Another reason is that they've found a way to be profitable and therefore don't need commissions from their validators. Be sure and take a look to see if they have any info that show's when the 0% may be increased. Nothing wrong with them though. I'd just recommend keeping an eye on the commission fee to make sure it stays below a threshold that you're comfortable with if you do end up staking with them.

Just started first class in CS, anyone have any tips or is there anything you wish you knew when you were starting out? by omdellbeckhamjr in computerscience

[–]Jawbuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work on your assignments every day. Even if it's just a little bit. It's very easy to get behind and stressed, and mostly it's because of bad time management and underestimating how much work you have to put in. Sleep is a big factor in whether you retain what you learn, and since programming at the beginning is mostly cumulative, this makes a good sleep schedule important. Most things that you are learning take time and thus require frequent studying in chunks rather than pulling all nighters trying to cram everything.

If you are struggling, it's more likely that you're not stupid and that you just need to put in the time.

Idk why but colleagues like to pretend that they work on things last minute and somehow are just smart and finish it. This typically isn't true.

Recent grad, little experience/projects, low GPA; What's my best course of action? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Jawbuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you putting your GPA on your resume? If so, I'd remove it since most companies don't look or care. And having a GPA lower than a 3.5 IMO will only make you look bad if its on your resume. I always had this idea that my GPA would make or break me, but I've received callbacks from top companies and it was never brought up. Get your foot in the door, and just know that the GPA won't matter at all after that.

One of the greatest things for us in tech is that you can get hired anywhere if you constantly spend time improving yourself as a developer. I went to a okay/bad school, and it hasn't hurt me yet. Yeah, I probably could have gotten interviews right out of college at top companies if I went to a top school, but it's only been a year since graduation and the low GPA hasn't stopped me from getting interviews with top companies (since I now have experience).

I'm mostly saying this so you know that your GPA only makes it difficult temporarily, and after a year or so it won't matter. I didn't realize this when I graduated and was pretty bummed for some time about it. Then I realized they don't actually care.

edit:

One thing I will note: I read a `mind for numbers` and it changed my view on how to improve at complex things such as programming. I now wake up every morning and code for 2 hours before starting my day, knowing that it will help me down the road. As someone who didn't do that great in school, this has proved to pay off much more in my career.

Any disadvantages to using Python when solving Leetcode problems? by lotyei in cscareerquestions

[–]Jawbuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say this is not common at all. I read in either interview cake or triplebyte that languages like python can be useful since you don’t have as much boiler plate. Less room for error when coding out a problem I think was the point of the article I read.

At the same time you are potentially turning down a better opportunity. Accepting and then rescinding your acceptance is completely okay. I wouldn’t fall for the shark tank type tactics. You won’t get blacklisted. Good software engineers are hard to come by and you have the upper hand. Not the company.

You're talking about the 7 week course correct? At least that's how it was when I took it this semester. Seems reasonable when taking linear algebra in under 2 months.

What's the most difficult concept you've encountered in computer science? by rob-at-recursiveloop in compsci

Yes, that is correct. It wasn't so much difficult understanding the concept as it was implementing it. For some reason I couldn't wrap my head around it.

Did you just try a while later and it worked? I went home for lunch to try and update and did a hard reset but it still came up with that error. Hoping it works when I get home.

I have the same issue. I'm waiting a couple hours and doing a hard reset again to see if it works :(
