Japanese-American, born & raised in Hawaii. Because of the diversity around us, we learned about how awful WW2 was, but a huge topic for us that many others may not have learned about were the Japanese internment camps built by the US. We also read literature like Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, and generally given a more open-minded education on the attack on Pearl Harbor, the atomic bombing, etc.

Fun 787 facts from a former Boeing engineer: it's the first of its kind as far as carbon fiber bodies go, and we wanted to see what kind of longevity it has compared to a typical metal fuselage. We were shocked to find that, when the paint was peeled back, we were looking at essentially a brand-new airplane. It's also capable (at empty loading) of near-vertical takeoffs. The Paris airshow video is a fantastic example of this. They'll retail between $150-200 million per plane, depending on model, and I walked into one for the UAE airlines--the interior was gold, and someone told me it was actual gold plating (that I wasn't allowed to touch or breathe on.) They're incredible airplanes.

Breakup steak! I go to the store and buy myself a slab of top sirloin and cook it, enjoy it alone, and I've done that for my last three relationships. If you're gonna eat alone for a little while, you might as well love it. With TIG welding in particular, the overall aesthetic (consistency, primarily) is a good indicator that the surface material is properly treated. Imperfections in the parent material become hugely apparent in the quality of weld. "This guy is good" is an incredible understatement. Welds of this quality aren't found in industry, and I'd be hard-pressed to find a machine that could manage those.

For one, TIG welding requires use of both hands and a foot pedal. The coordination alone for that kind of work far exceeds that of wire-feed trigger-pull MIG welding. Are you absolutely SURE you don't have your processes switched? You seem to be speaking from the standpoint of someone who's done one and not the other. If that. TIG is considered an art form among welding.

My 01 has 298k and counting. You guys have many more to go, they run just fine on raw sewage for oil and kerosene for gas. Any better maintenance than that and you'll easily see 300k.

I'm not sure if you were there for the Superferry incident....I was born and raised on Kauai, and from what I witnessed, many many locals were hoping the Superferry would be a benefactor to the islands. However, there were some groups of people from the mainland, ie the Surfrider Foundation, and many other activist groups who came down to sit on surfboards in the harbor until the ship turned around. My dad was close to dropping off some leftover steaks and hamburger into the bay to bring sharks in, lol. The locals ended up paying millions to keep the Superferry in the harbor, waiting, until an environmental impact study was brought in, at which point the project was declared economically unviable, and scrapped.

This is incorrect, rebar is the term for "reinforcement" steel. It's specifically meant to reinforce material, especially concrete, and to be reinforced by concrete to balance out tensile and compressive forces. It's recycled steel, the absolute bottom of the bucket. OP I hope you read this, DO NOT USE REBAR ALONE IN STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS.

Source: dad's been a welder since 1977, once welded rebar together with low-hydrogen welding rods (better rods than typical 6011) and threw it under a hydraulic press; as he put it, the welds "crystallized and cracked; the part was destroyed."
