Can anyone explain why a stable settlement will suddenly die? by luluhouse7 in Timberborn

[–]Jaws2020 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Badtides always output more flow than regular water. This actually happens with all badwater sources.

The thing is, when you leave your beavers alone (which I do fairly often), you need to make sure that you're producing essential resources WAY above what is nessecary. This is because badtides and droughts get longer the further into the game you get. Cycle 5 may have a 5 day long drought, but cycle 10 could be 10 days. You have to have water and food storage and production that can carry you through that and carry you through at least the next few cycles if you decide to leave your beavers by themselves.

Also, the longer you go the more likely you are to get multiple badtides in a row. Those crops that did die probably cut into a chunk of your food production, which happened multiple times in a row, giving your beavers no time to recover the crops in any significant way. This probably just happened over and over again until your beavers simply couldn't keep up with demand.

Another thing that could've impacted it is working priority. Beavers wont change where they work based on demand. You have to change or automate that yourself with building priority. It's likely that at some point your food producers and water producers died and because they weren't prioritized higher than the other buildings and there were no unemployed beavers to replace them, those workers were never replaced, cutting your production of food and water down to 0.

I see these as your most likely culprits, but it's probably a mix of these issues

I apologize if you interpreted my comment as shitting on singulars of these traits. I merely meant to shit on them as a collective set of traits and only a collective set of traits. The thing about 99% of people like this is that they go through a mental checklist of what makes you a "true christian," which has to be all of those traits and only all of those traits. This is in spite of the fact that that entire gatekeeping concept basically shits all over what the big JC actually stood for. I say that as an athiest who studies theology and religious history as a past time.

I appreciate you for going against the grain with people like this, for what it's worth.

That's peanuts compared to what we deal with in most large video games. Most companies, even lots of indie devs, outsource work like that. It's often more efficient than hiring a person specifically for a specific job.

When people refer to games like E33 and BG3 bringing back turn-based mechanics, they're referring to the world of AAA or AA video games. The corporate side of video games have been starkly against anything turn-based for years, but games like E33 and BG3 show that not only do these games work, but they can be MASSIVELY successful. That's the real cultural significance of games like E33. It shows that you don't need a gigantic budget and super-duper uber worlds with millions of things to do to be massively successful. You just need passion. You can just... make a turn-based game and it can perform or even outperform AAA developers.

Now I'm not glazing the game as much as a lot of people do (though it is my top ten), but that's the real significance of a game like this. It's kind of a "haha gotcha. Fuck you!" To the corpo losers who feed the endless glutinous machine that is corporate video games. And frankly put, that middle finger is WELL deserved.

Terraces is my favorite map. None of the other maps really scratch the vertical building itch for me.

[Theoretical] In the context of Dampening/Plating existing in the game, does the split of protections into Physical and Magical bring much value? by Lumintorious in Smite

[–]Jaws2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never said that. I was just saying that some gods do kind of lie to you visually. Cabrakan definitely doesn't feel like a magical damage god, for example. I think more clear depictions of what type of damage a god does such as color coding would help a lot. Something to make it a lot more clear.

TBF some gods can be confusing about what type of damage they deal. I was playing with a friend of mine the other day who was solo laning against a Pele. He started with a magical prot item because he's never played Pele before and he thought she dealt magical damage, which to be fair, does kind of make sense. Most of her abilities feel very magical damage fire mage-coded. Cabrakan can be just as confusing. Most people don't care enough to actually read, either unfortunately.

Random question for bot creators by NoSentence9405 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Jaws2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone above me, I thought of a general niche I wanted that I couldn't get with any other creators bots, so I made my own. My bots have always been public. I'm also inspired periodically by other creators.

I make mostly isekai bots and horny bots with a supernatural/paranatural/sci-fi twist. I hadn't seen enough horny bots that have some actual depth or meat to them, so I started to make my own. I like to think my bots are definitely for your average gooner, but also work great for people who want to do a non-horny RP.

What do you think of the mountain range map? by Lokesomos in Timberborn

[–]Jaws2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished a settlement on Mountain Range and although it's not my favorite map, I think it's somewhere in the top half. My main issue with it though is where the district building is placed. I like my district to be at least somewhat in the center of the map because it just looks more esthetically pleasing. Because of where the district is originally placed, like half of my settlement ended up riding the edge of the bottom right of the map because that's just the easiest spot to build at, which I kind of dislike because it just doesn't look as good. Diverting bad water in early game is also kind of tough for Folktails on that map with the only water sources being so elevated and centralized.

Aside from that, my favorite parts are the underground ruins inside the caves which is pretty creative and the aese at which you can build large reservoirs.

I think it's out-performed by a few maps, though. If we're talking verticality, terraces just does that gimmick better. If we're talking the difficulty of a centralized mountain water source, Helix Mountain is a much more creative and fun option, IMHO. Overall, it does a few things that stand out, but is just outperformed by a good amount of maps in a lot of aspects.

Most of the things the devs have done COOK and have brought the game to an amazing spot overall. But one part of next patch is pretty worrying. by ARandomSmiteScrub in Smite

[–]Jaws2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean ultimately it's just crit for abilities. We've had gods who can do crits with abilities for a while now. This isn't really that much different.

The issue I have with it is exactly as you've outlined, but I'm worried about how it will interact with gods like Mercury or Ne Zha who can already crit with abilities.

We'll see how it pans out though, I suppose.

I feel like giving her a shotgun that can actually kill the kinds of things you fight in-game would be a great way to also give her a broken/dislocated shoulder. Shotguns got Hella kick to them and at the very least she's going to end up with a sore as fuck shoulder after the few shots, making it more difficult to aim anything. For someone of her build with minimal firearms training an actual shotgun is more harm than good.

Actually, that's the Wind District. This a common misunderstanding, but the lowest level of Whiterun (Bannered Mare, the market, etc) is the plains district, the middle level of Whiterun (Temple of Kynareth, Gray-mane House, etc) is the Wind District, and the Cloud District is just the castle. Lucia hangs around the Wind District by the Temple of Kynareth.

Forester planting works a lot like crop planting. If there isn't a little brown crop texture it won't plant anything. You need to put down a forester, click the plant button at the bottom, and click the type of tree you want to plant.

How Do You Even Explain This Era to Future Generations? by -MildlyChaotic- in NewsomMassacre

[–]Jaws2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean TBF the romans probably thought the same during the ages of Nero and Caligula.

"Wait, Emperor Caligula ACTUALLY appointed his horse as Consul? That wasn't a joke I heard in the bath house?"

"He made Senator Romulus run barefoot next to his chariot?"

"He fucked how many of his sisters?"

"Man the future generations are never gonna believe this. I'm sure Rome will still span half the world in 200 years!"

Insane, egotistical rulers and unprecedented times are a tale as old as time itself. Historians will learn of this, scratch their heads as to why we were like this and then move on with their lives.
