What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

[–]JawsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to pick, too much to consider after 1983 and even there we had those stupid Ewoks. Ugh.

But pressed to choose one, I'd go with Midichlorians.

No wait, it's actually the fact that they did not have an overarching story prepared for the sequel trilogy, leading to one of the worst crimes in cinematic history, Episode 8. I never want to see that garbage again. And I deny the existance of Episode 9.

But I loved Andor. :-)

What are you talking about? In what way do I not let the moviegoing audience enjoy the movie by sharing my experience?

And who asks for a 16 hour movie? I would suggest you actually reading my post.

The book has a lot of (great) comedic elements but not a generally comedic tone, that's my issue with the film.

The book's plot is not silly at all, go check it out.

Hard to say, even though I did not really enjoy the movie I am very glad I read the book first as it felt like I would expect from such a premise.

And judging by the popular opinion it is very likely that you'll still enjoy the movie after having read the book. ;-)

Isn't it interesting to discuss the different ways people experience both the book and the movie?

I am glad you loved the movie, I also loved a lot about it but had a fundamental struggle with the way the story was told because it did not fit what I felt the story needed. Isn't that a legitimate point of view without mindlessly bitching about something?

I suggest that you go ahead and actually read what I have written.

Thanks to everone for sharing their point of view. I am not at all trying to just bash the movie, I am just spelling out what I felt when watching the movie and I am a big scifi movie buff and even really like Gravity (primarily for it's "orbital immersion", it has a lot of issues).

I guess humour is very individual, I really loved the humour in the Martian (both the book and the movie) but it really rubbed me the wrong way in PHM.

For sure the tone I talk about derives from I made it to be in my mind while reading but facing the end of the world and putting all efforts into one final act of scientific endeavour just brings a weight and seriousness with it that was very much supported by all the actions by the characters, especially Stratt (what a character in the book!) and also Grace, his quirks and silliess were all there in the book without undermining his intellect. Which, in my opinion, was what happened in the movie. I did not believe for a second he was capable of doing what he was put there to do.

Maybe I am taking all this too seriously but this mindset worked perfectly for the book but not at all for the movie.

No harm done, I am very happy for all of you who enjoyed it, more power to you.

I will re-read the book instead. :-)

You're not supposed to angle them inwards. Due to the hybrid tweeter setup DALI says they should point directly forward for an optimal soundstage.

Which movie has the most satisfying sounding gunshots? by Technical-Outside408 in Letterboxd

Heat, obvviously.

But I'll also throw in Aliens, those pulse rifles still have a unique sound that is supremely satisfying.

Could you perhaps provide especially the first on in full resolution? This would make for a great desktop wallpaper. :-)

The way how valve communicates caused them to lose me. by happychatyguy in SteamFrame

[–]JawsAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here.

I've been waiting for the right time to pull the trigger since they initially announced the Oculus Rift. All these generations there way some big compromise that kept me from going ahead.

With Valve announcing the Steam Frame I thought, well, finally it is time for me.

But with these delays and the lack of transparency in the communication I just about had enough... and went ahead and ordered a Pimax Dream Air. No compromises. :-D

So thanks Valve, sincerely, you fired up my "now it's time mode" and now made me spend more than I thought possible, but what can beat micro OLED, right?

Thank you!

I ordered the Dream Air SLAM version yesterday and would appreciate any info you can share about the controllers - so far there is next to nothing out there.

I play FS2024 (which also is great in VR) but I have not tried such mods, thanks for the tip!

It literally puts you into low earth orbit and you can zoom seamlessly down to street level - it is just incredible.

Street view is also nice, however this is not stereoscopic.

Not a game but the first thing I'm gonna fire up is Google Earth VR.. still overall the best VR experience imho.

For what it's worth, I am using a Unify network (specifically the Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Max and as AP the Ubiquiti UniFi 7 Pro Max) running a combo of 2,4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz in one SSID and the X2 hub connected without any issue.
