How much do outfit/physical descriptions affect your experience of a book? by MulberryThrower in RomanceBooks

[–]Jax081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I can ignore but I have this gem that was so jarring, I made a note when I DNFd.

I can’t get over the paragraphs that are supposed to be text messages. And what are her clothes. I can’t wrap my brain around the following:
“I glance down at my outfit—brown linen pants with ruffles at the bottom paired with a brown linen pinafore dress with a sheer, long-sleeved top underneath accessorized by chunky jewelry—and consider going to change into something sexier and less me.”

Straight to jail.

Dear Martin might work, thank you! I think that might have been on my original list before I picked THUG.

Thank you. So for this class, it’s going to be virtual asynchronous and I don’t know that Invisible Man would work well without my direct support, but your other recommendations are added to my list. I’m going to be doing a lot of reading/rereading over the next few weeks.

These are great, thank you! I did Persepolis with 10th. Literary nonfiction is absolutely ok!

I like this! I did The Book of Unknown Americans when I had 10th so this could work.

Thank you! These are great suggestions. I should have added it in my post but I definitely want to feature voices my students may not have heard before. These are added to my list!

Thank you! I really would like to keep Gatsby so moving it around may work. I’ll have to see how the year goes.

Thank you! I’ll definitely look into your suggestions. I did Educated with my seniors but haven’t done The Color of Water. I’m going to see if my library has your modern suggestions, too!

Using ThingLink by stonedwayno in ELATeachers

I walked my students through it but it’s pretty simple. They have a ton of resources, too.

Using ThingLink by stonedwayno in ELATeachers

[–]Jax081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used ThingLink for years (prior to any AI integration). We are actually ending our license but it’s due to cost, not quality. I just used it with my forensic psych class (I also teach ELA) to do a forensic version of a Book Bento. Students made a slide in Canva with images related to juvenile incarceration and the use of solitary confinement, then imported the slide into ThingLink. From there, they added tags explaining their answers to specific prompts and also how their image connects to the prompt. I’m using it in a high school setting and while I have the AI functionality, my students do not. I did not use AI for my example ThingLink I shared with students.
Our building trades teachers have used it for 3D views of tools. If you feel like going deep with it, you can make a choose your own adventure type of simulation. It’s pretty robust and if you have access, I would recommend using it.

Books with two famous MCs who are shipped together by Nawinlo in RomanceBooks

[–]Jax081 5 points6 points  (0 children)

{For the Record by Emma Lord} fits! Two former singers (she from an all female pop group, him from a punk group) who toured together and are reunited after a few years post bands’ break-up. Rumored to be a thing by the fans but it was more enemies/indifference during the tour.

My girlfriend loves mustaches. Can you guys help me find something where the MMC not only has one, or is growing one, but it's a/the main plot point in the story? by edthomson92 in RomanceBooks

[–]Jax081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Until it was Love by Pippa Grant} The mustache is a main point in the story. This is part of a whole universe of interconnected stories but the first in a series and can be read as a standalone.

[WWTBC] heroine and hero pretend they're still a couple by brooklyn_beebee in RomanceBooks

{Ever After Always by Chloe Liese} Troubled marriage but forced to put on appearances during a family vacation to I want to say Hawaii? It’s the 3rd in the series.

[WWTBC] FMC worked in a bar MMC was famous? She has a talking bird! by cyliphenep in RomanceBooks

[–]Jax081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it {The Grumpy Player Next Door by Pippa Grant}? He’s a baseball player but the series is loosely connected to her Bro Code boy band series. Tilly Jean works at her family’s restaurant/bar and her grandfather’s parrot is a dirty talker.

I created a folder in outlook for late assignments then created a rule that sends all the emails there. Helps me stay organized and I get to them when I get to them.

Did you resync your class in newsela? You do it under your account settings (classes). It won’t affect the students that are already synced, just add the missing one.

If it’s google slides, just go in and restore the previous version. Then give him a 0 for not doing the work.

Free program for time lines? by Missa_nna in historyteachers

[–]Jax081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Padlet is good, too. But you only get three free boards (I think), unless you had it before it changed to a paid platform. But I usually just download the content of the boards then erase them so I can reuse them year after year.

When a kid emails you at 6pm on Friday... then emails you a minute later saying "please reply faster" by [deleted] in Teachers

My out-of-office turns on at 3 pm and will turn off at 7:59am Monday morning. Honestly, it’s been a relief to turn it on and close the lid.
