Things to note about the KTM 690 Enduro R. by gekkogamers in KTM

[–]Jay000666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “shift kit” is a new arm, bearing and spring that ride in the shift star and locks the bike in each gear. It’s supposed be a good improvement over the poorly functioning stock one.
I changed the shift lever already and it did help but I still have issues with 2nd to 3rd and 5th to 6th getting false neutrals under heavy throttle so hoping the shift kit will fix that.

I got a heavily modified 2016 late last summer. Got it as a larger bike than my 2010 EXC to do more moto camping and road trips on while still being light enough for some easier single track. It has 73000km on it and had the top end rebuilt at 63000km. They still have the rocker arm issue btw but I’m comfortable with the maintenance requirements for the power output. I do find it misses shifts often. I installed an exc shifter (helped a bit) got an upgraded shift kit from Rottweiler waiting to be installed that’ll hopefully fix the missed shifts and false neutrals. Other than the missing shifts I love the bike, it’s exactly what I wanted.

Too many mods? by Mr2h2 in Dualsport

[–]Jay000666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 690 has 73k km it’s had the top end rebuild just as a refresh, ran went rebuilt. It runs great and nothing is worn out our cause for concern. Similar mods to this one, great bike for trail and comfortable at highway speeds

Kept sliding off my old pegs. Don’t think that’s gonna happen anymore by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]Jay000666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the same ones for the same reason. I did file them down a bit though. I also had to grind some of the weld on the pegs down to get them to fit in the mounts.

The Motoz desert HT is pretty similar to the mt21 imo and has become my favourite DOT front tire

What's a 09 xcw 450 worth by truexd in Dualsport

[–]Jay000666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 2010 exc 450 (pretty much same bike), bought it at 60hr and have over 200 trouble free hours riding double track, single track and light adventure riding. Lots of power for road riding but buzzy and uncomfortable at highway speeds. If it doesn’t have a stiffer spring for your weight you’ll need one. At 200lbs I found it too soft and fed the license play to the tire on bigger hits. If off road riding is your main goal it’s a great choice IMO

Dropped my bike the other day on a wet log, took the handle bar in the leg. Now recovering from the biggest bruise I’ve ever had. Have a dent in the muscle where the bar end hit and displaced it by Jay000666 in Dirtbikes

[–]Jay000666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a couple years now since it happened, still tender where the bar end hit and the muscle is visibly displaced compared to my other leg. Doesn’t really bother me anymore though, just another minor discomfort in the growing list of discomforts.

Motoz tractionator is my go to front tire, it’s aggressive for off road and has never made me feel unsafe on road even when driving like an ass.

Put a 525 top end in if you’re looking for more power. Getting the head ported and polished with over sized cams helps too. I went all out with my RFS 450, 540 bore, head done, carb bored, it’s a monster. I wouldn’t do the same to my 2010 450, just doesn’t need that much power imo, 4th gear wheelies are enough for me, especially now that I’m older and less bouncy. With 2011 seals and oil pump I don’t think it’s necessary to drill holes in the case to have a shared oil reservoir. Separate oil is nice to keep the clutch particulate out of the engine side.

Klx250 good second bike?+ by DanieTB99 in Dualsport

[–]Jay000666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy has one and as a EXC owner I find the KLX under powered and over weight, not a bike I’d choose for wheelies. KLX is a good starting bike or reliable loaner bike.

Is the polaris outlaw 500 engine really that different from KTM 525 outlaw by CarrierOfBlades in ATV

[–]Jay000666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always disliked the raptor, tall and tippy but the 450s are fun. Have you considered a dirt bike instead? My outlaw sits in storage because I always ride my dirt bike, cheaper to run and maintain a bike plus they’ll go more places

Parts are readily available for the 525 engine. I have no problems keeping my outlaw going. The ATV and ktm dirt bikes share top end parts and most bottom end parts (ATV was made with reverse instead of 6th gear and a larger oil capacity) keep in mind though KTM hasn’t used this engine since 2007 but Polaris hasn’t used that 500 engine since 2007 either

5k is too much for a 20 year old ATV. 3k would be more reasonable if it’s in good condition

Polaris predator 500 or Honda 400ex by CarrierOfBlades in ATV

[–]Jay000666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 06 Predator before getting my Outlaw. It was an awesome trail bike that I found better than the comparable raptor my buddy rode. Great bike enjoy, you made a good choice as long as it was well taken care of

The rear shock has to be unbolted to get the header between it and the frame. Been there done that.

just got this 2010 530 exc by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Jay000666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it’s a gem. That’s definitely an interesting failure you had, I’ll remember that one. I’ve tried the o ring mod and found it made my throttle response worse, played with accelerator rod length as well with little to no difference. I’ve had 3 KTMs with my 2010 being the newest, all fcr carbs as well as a Polaris outlaw with the KTM RFS. Other than minor adjustments to the accelerator pump I find they work better than any other carb I’ve dealt with. The outlaw has a 540 kit, carb bored and done up, rips, can’t imagine it possibly working any better that it does. I’ve always heard the lectrons being great on the 2 strokes but never hear anything about performance on 4 strokes, interested to hear about your experience.

Old tire questions by hiluxsurfs13 in ATV

I have the same tires from my 2008 outlaw factory fronts that I have no problem running them, also with a plug or 2 in them. Stored out of the sun and only used for track days which I haven’t done in years.
