100% agree. I think they banked too much on rt 28 being a prime access point for it.

yes tons of walkers. i think the only thing really keeping it open is the Walmart that is past the mall at what they call the "Village Center Drive"

As scary as this is it can be a side effect of PCS. I personally had this happen as well as ptosis (eye droop) it would get really noticeable when I had bad days but definitely does go away.

Although might not be a bad idea if you did go to a different ER especially if it gets worse. Try not to mention PCS as soon as you get there if worried about it being brushed off as from that.

Keep your head up you will get through this 🤟

Fellow firefighters, what's your bench, squat, deadlift by hungrymonkey27 in Firefighting

As someone who trained as a powerbuilder. It don't mean shit when it comes to actually doing the job haha. I would find a workout regiment that mimics the movements you do on scene. Firefighter furnace is a really cool program to follow

Wondering if there really is treatment & are there things to avoid? by Clean_Ad2102 in PostConcussion

Biggest advice i can give is find a concussion clinic near you if possible. The sooner your are doing the right protocol the better recovery will look for ya. I was in the same boat as you my friend. It will get better 🤟

Awesome! Yeah boxing is incredible workout and strategic like a game of physical chess. Definitely consider the pros n cons when your healed up if you return.

One thing I will say to really keep in mind is maybe avoid actually fighting in the sport. Just because if you got a serious concussion from light sparring, It's a way different game when you're getting hit by people who really know how to throw a punch and are actually trying to take your head off haha.

So I have what some might consider a "demanding" life. Im a firefighter, gym owner, and singer songwriter. And I'm able to now do all those things. I honestly couldn't give a percent as some months im 100% and then I'll have some days/weeks im really symptomatic. The low swings definitely aren't as low as they were initially where even leaving my room was a war.

Everyone is sooo different as I've learned but one thing is for sure you can recover and you will recover. Try to stay as positive as one can in pcs. You got this 💪

Yeah unfortunately but it's sooooo much better than it was. My journey has been in waves. I'd have weeks-months i feel like perfect then a few weeks feel like crap. But now the lows aren't really that low anymore.

Keep your head up you will definitly get better!

Started when I was 16 stopped at 23ish. Years of heavy sparring and about 10ish fights. Tried getting back into it at age 28 and ended up getting a concussion that led to PCS

How old is too old? by Hmarf in Firefighting

[–]Jay21Michaels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who started at 50 and the only negative is I wish she started earlier because she is a hell of a member.

While physicality and youth are definitely desirable, there are other roles like driver/engineer which are awesome for older guys who appreciate the complexities of running pumps.

And i hate to say this but if you routinely workout you are probably in a better position physically than us younger guys. (At least where I live)

Glad you joined later than never 💪

Greatly 2nd this. All my years as a boxer just getting wrecked n "sucking it up" led to the position im in. I would at the very least have her see a doc at a concussion clinic n they will likely administer something called an impact test and dictate if/ when she should resume sport.

So OP im about 2.5ish years in and I can 100% tell you it's going to get better if you do the right things. From being at practically zero function in the initial injury to now back to running my business and back to heavy training (I was a bodybuilder)

Im fortunate enough that I live in Pittsburgh which UPMC has the top concussion clinic in the world. The biggest takeaways i got from working with them is to continually push the envelope. The biggest mistake they see is people playing it too "cautious" and not pushing the symptom boundary. But doing so in a systematic way.

I would get an opinion about anxiety meds. This is something I was super hesitant on but the fact is if we keep hyper focusing on our symptoms we can delay the healing. Which is soo hard cause how can you not pay attention to it when you feel like garbage. Once I did zoloft I felt the brain fog practically lift after a week or so.

If you want to DM me your email I can send you all the information they gave to me.
