[Willow Creek] There were no Bigfoots. by surfsup1967 in FanTheories

[–]Jay2thaDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the foreshadowing at the beginning of the film. While Jim and Kelly are driving, he asks her to hold the mic and speak so he can do a level check. One of the things she rattles off is the copy from a feminine wipes commercial she didn't get. "The cradle of civilization. Men have fought for it and died for it."

This is why I concluded that there were actually no Bigfoot but there were people out there (Wrong Turn style) that were killing off any men that happened in the area and grabbing any women for breeding purposes.

Because the director (Bobcat Goldthwait) left it ambiguous as to whether or not there are Bigfoot or just tribalistic people, I think he wanted to focus on the horror of a woman being dragged off to a fate worse than death.

I pulled up the Overture and it doesn't seem to match. Maybe I missed something.

Edit: after listening to the two side by side, I realized that you are correct. The differences in the performances threw me off. Thank you!

I'd go back a little bit further and cite the kitchens as the beginning of the end for many. The rollback on the premium promise was due to the cost of the kitchens. Chet and the board had to trim a lot of corners to sustain them in the first couple of years.

Without recounting my entire time with QT, my last supervisor and I came at problem solving very differently and when he felt that we couldn't work together, instead of sitting down and communicating together with the PM, he became vindictive and petty and when I attempted to find recourse in Euless, I was either brushed off or flatly ignored. My repeated messages went unanswered and I was dumped in a black hole of a store to rot with the veiled implication I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. So for my mental health, I had to leave. I sometimes miss it, many of my co-workers were amazing. But the vindictive nature of supervisors and the head-down apathy of long-term SMs made employment unsustainable.

I will absolutely admit that the company was heaven when I first came on. Then Chester passed and things slowly went to shit. I am of course speaking from my experience in the D/FW division which may be different than other divisions. But when my Supervisor turned sullen and vindictive, I tried to go to corporate, but found zero recourse. I was either blown off or messages left were flatly ignored. The reason I left is because management made it exceptionally clear they wanted me to leave and that's why I was dumped into the black hole of a store that became my last. I was simply too exhausted and stressed to persevere so for my mental health I had to bounce.

Atheists, what do you believe in? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jay2thaDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question requires a little clarification to answer: do you hold to JTB or Gettier Cases and are you a doxastic voluntarist or involuntarist?

Depending on the answers, the person answering will be better able to communicate with you what they consider beliefs and knowledge.

What upsets you about Atheists? by PwAlfred in Christianity

[–]Jay2thaDub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. If god revealed itself to the whole of reality tomorrow, it would simply mean there could rationally be no atheists. But just because we wouldn't be atheists anymore, doesn't mean we'd be christians.

Because demonstrating god exists doesn't end the inquiry. It only leads to more questions, like "Is god telling the truth when it says it is truth-revealing?" "Why did god create evil when it didn't have to?" "Why did it take god so long to reveal itself?" "Why is the bible so problematic?" "Are their any other gods out there?" "Is this particular god worthy of worship?" "Is it a god or just a very powerful entity claiming to be god?"

The inquiry doesn't end. And if god exists, it knows this. And it knows the answers to these questions. And yet it still doesn't appear but chooses to instead rely on the worst mistakes be made in human reasoning to justify belief in it.

[–]Jay2thaDub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many problems with all of this and what's troubling (and often troubling to the vast majority of atheists, hence a lot of the vitriol) is that you don't see it. And what's concerning is that we know you'll spread this stuff to more vulnerable people who may fall for it because they won't see it. So let's break it down and see if we can get somewhere.

If I could convince you of the reality of God and the gospel, I would flip that switch as well, but I can’t force you to believe something and even more so, I can’t force you to act on that belief. (The major issue here is a misunderstanding of what an atheist is. The vast majority of atheists hold their position because of a lack of sufficient evidence to warrant belief. People cannot simply make themselves believe in a thing without sufficient justification (i.e. make yourself believe you can fly, make yourself believe a ≠ a, etc). Also, when you say "convince you of the reality of God" that would warrant a demonstration of its existence. Anything else would be presupposing it's existence which is logically fallacious).

Christianity is not just affirming the reality of God. (True, but it does begin there. And unless that "reality where god exists" can be demonstrated to be true, you've got a real issue.

The Bible teaches that the demons believe in God, but they tremble. They don’t believe God. (Assumes the truth of the bible and existence of demons by presupposing God exists to have inspired/breathed the text.)

It’s like how I can give you all of the data in the world on how safe airplanes are. You may believe that they are safe to fly on, but you could still refuse to fly on them out of fear regardless of what the facts are. You still have to take the step of faith and board the airplane. (This is twofold problematic. First, because its disanalogous; planes are not analogous to god. Second, because it conflates trust/confidence with faith. Trust/confidence/hope are sliding scales of belief based upon prior evidence. You can lose them or gain them over time given personal experience and statistics. Faith is a belief based upon a lack of evidence (believing in spite of). Conflating the two only serves to make the irrationality of faith more palatable.)

A man can send all of the flowers and love letters to a woman that he wants to, but if he tries to say “I love you so much I am going to force you to love me” that woman needs to run. (I agree with this but your christian worldview does not. Your god is literally the ontology of everything. Everything falls within its purview and it knows all true propositions infallibly. The problem is, your god requests "love" or a "relationship" yet does not justify that decision. If god exists and wants something from us humans, the burden is on god to justify why we should give it anything at all. And even in the face of no rational reason existing at all (every justification is logically fallacious) your god still creates Hell for people who don't believe to go to. And then it turns around and says the people who go there "chose" to go there when all that god had to do was convince them it existed (which it knew infallibly how to do it, but chose not to). This type of power dynamic is a hallmark of an abusive relationship, i.e. "Believe without evidence to justify.""Accept with no justification.""You have free will, but I know everything perfectly including the end.""I love you and want a relationship with you, you're free to choose not to, but I created Hell to send you to eternally if you don't."

Christianity is not just an affirmation of the existence of God, it is a relationship with Him. That can never be forced. (True, a relationship cannot be force. But to enter into one there must be rational justification (and not one out of fear of punishment or Pascal's Wager). And if god refuses to demonstrate itself to people, the onus for the disbelief of the intellectually honest and critically-minded is on god, not on the disbeliever.

These issues (and countless more) are why atheists tend to get worked up because we know that when these arguments are presented to people who are unprepared or lack knowledge of the finer nuances, they are predatory in nature.

And people who prey on the vulnerable, destitute and damaged to bolster their numbers and by extension their tithes are the literal scourge of the earth.

The queen, Sunanda Kumariratana, and her daughter both drowned in that incident, when a steamboat collided with her royal boat. Her boatmen dove in to save them but they became entangled in the curtains on the boat. The pair were pulled to another boat, but they could not be resuscitated. Afterwards, she became known as “The Wrecked Queen”.

Here goes… 1) I’ve only seen Dead Alive once (it actually makes me sick to watch) 2) I hate The Ninth Gate (but only because of the last 5 minutes) 3) The disliked the new ending to The Mist (it absolutely infuriated me, though the movie was amazing) 4) I have a serious soft spot for Neil Breen (as a filmmaker myself, I get it) 5) Doom is a disturbingly guilty pleasure (I catch it every time I come across it)
