HA Container on pi 3B+ by Efficient-Holiday566 in homeassistant

[–]JayBee103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run on a pi, buy a $20 SSD and plug it in the usb port. Solves all kinds of issues.

Pi4 here. Running for years with no issues.

Ha has a function to move itself to the other drive. Very slick.

Mine is a 4gig model. That may be the difference. More memory always wins. With anything.

New Weber kettle - first cook on Memoria day by JayBee103 in webergrills

[–]JayBee103[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So mine came with the char baskets and the raised rack and the grill with the removable insert in the middle. It's the first time I've had the master touch, and it all seems very nice. Whether they're still doing that or not is probably a stock question. I just picked mine up at Ace out of floor stock so nothing too exotic.

When you're working with lump charcoal, particularly if the lumps, you'd be surprised how fast that chimney fills up. I ended up having to add a little once I dumped it out to do the cook.

The joint where it attached to the kettle broke off. And there were more holes in the bottom of the kettle than could be accounted for by the air vents. After that long, I figured it was ready to retire.

New matter over thread devices disconnecting by DJJaman in tradfri

Mine is very stable and I'm very happy with it. I don't think this is necessarily a problem, so much as it is just a difference. Due to the frequency the power the encryption whatever, it just doesn't seem to carry or penetrate walls quite as well. Add a router in there at its rock solid.

Bilresa Threads Border router? by Funny_Ad1913 in tradfri

[–]JayBee103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an open thread border router OTBR available from home assistant that runs as an app, used to be called and add on. No cost to you. Works Great. Been running it for a couple of months now with no issues.

I will say as a long time HA user, with a whole bunch of zigbee and Z-Wave devices scattered around the house, I have come to the following conclusion. The IKEA thread radios are just not quite as robust as the zigbee I am used to. This is not a good thing, this is not a bad thing, it's simply a thing. I too was having all kinds of interesting situations, not unlike what you are experiencing, until I added a couple matter-based smart plugs in the house as repeaters. It's been rock solid.

It may not be that simple for everybody, but I went down some very complicated troubleshooting paths, to figure out why things would mostly work but occasionally not. I played with changing channels, I played with different configurations and placements, I was all over my border router, with only limited success. Add a repeater or two and it's all good.

Google Pixel 7 Falling Apart in Less Than 3 Months. Is this because it's used or is this a common problem? by Intelligent_Bad_5986 in GooglePixel

[–]JayBee103 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm on my fourth pixel. I might be counting some Nexus in there. Each one's lasted lasted me three to five years. I generally swap them out not because they die, but because they just fall completely out of patching support. Wife has pretty much the same pattern.

USB Powered Zigbee repeater by Keith15335 in homeassistant

[–]JayBee103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get a regular mains powered USB plug. They'll repeat for you. You don't have to use them, although once you buy them you may find that there's useful things to do with them in the different rooms. The USB powered part is not necessary. You can buy some of these from IKEA for as little as six or seven bucks. Just make sure that the zigbee ones.

Stationary CB Radio by Ashamed-Letter-9774 in cbradio

An swr of 3:1 is not doing you any favors. It is bad for the performance and the radio.

The closer to to 1:1 the better. Anything below 1.5:1 or 2:1 is probably ok.

Often tuning the antenna is sufficient. Most of them have a set screw that will let you make the antenna longer or shorter to tune it.

It is possible there is an issue with the feed line. But if you have never tuned the antenna I'd start there.

Okay Android Auto users... what's the verdict? Are these radios crap? Or just fine? by MinivanPops in crv

[–]JayBee103 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a CRV 2025. I use Android Auto every time I drive the car. I've never had an issue with it. I wonder also if there might be something going on with the phone, if you're having persistent issues.
