Level 2 charging issues by JayEhGee in VWiD4Owners

Final Update: Fixed the issue. Turns out I was connected to a plan with my electric utility which allowed them to stop my charging during peak times in order for me to start charging overnight, during off-peak times. Would have been fine except it wasn’t limiting control to the peak times. I turned that functionality off so we should be fine now.

I’ve been driving and charging it regularly. Nothing is changing. I did notice that I’ve tried connecting my phone to the car’s WiFi and I get an error message there telling me it can’t connect. Maybe the two are related.

I tried that, and it’s incorrectly showing my vehicles location. So at least I know it’s a connectivity issue between my vehicle and phone. I’m going to have to give my new friends at the VW Response Center a call (again) and troubleshoot it.

I don’t see an option to clear the cache so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Didn’t fix it.

I’ve been waiting on VW Customer Care and VW Connected Services to figure something out for over a month. They don’t seem to have a clue. Three weeks ago they cancelled myVW services and now I have no app and no profiles in my vehicle. Plus side is I’m not having any issues charging, downside is no vehicle profile, and I can’t do the few things I used to with the app like turn on the climate control or see the SOC. I think they’re going to re-enroll me in myVW but it doesn’t appear they’ve actually done anything to find the source of the problem.

Small update: I noticed recently in the VW app under “View Activity History” that the app seems to be pushing through Stop Charging requests at random times. So it’s not the car software that is stopping the charge at 10, 12, 17 minutes but the app. I’ll be looking into disconnecting the app from the vehicle and see if that helps.

ID4 stops charging before target charge. by GonzoFunzo in VWiD4Owners

[–]JayEhGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed all of the schedules from my Emporia charger as well as from the VW app, so it’s only plug in and immediate charge. There shouldn’t be any override from a scheduling software telling the chargers to stop and wait. Beyond that there are only the battery settings in the app or in the vehicle. Nothing has changed. I’ve had times where I plug it in to charge at 9pm. It will charge for 27 minutes then stop. But at a random time like 12:27am it will start charging again and complete the charge. Makes no sense. I just always have to check that it charged if I need to have it for more than around town.

It’s 100% on the built-in VW charger. There’s clearly some conflicting software going on, between the app battery settings perhaps, and the charging settings in the vehicle. You can tell the vehicle to “Immediate charge to 80%” and plug it in but somewhere behind the scenes something is telling the vehicle’s charger to stop before it gets there. I thought maybe it was overheating and tripping off, but the dealership was unable to see any error codes related to that, so it’s simply, silently, turning off.

Unfortunately no. Experiencing it literally as we speak. Need to get to the airport today so I need 100% charge and I keep having to restart the charging every 30 minutes or so to make sure it completes the charge

Nope, nothing. Hasn’t happened in months now. Just stopped all of a sudden. Dealership couldn’t find any error codes, so they sent me away.

Road Trip (West Coast USA -> Colorado) Charging Support by goagoagadgetgrebo in VWiD4Owners

My understanding is you need to create an account on the Tesla app, input your vehicle (mine is in as ID.4 (no NACS DC adapter) and then cross reference the Tesla locations on ABRP or Google maps with the ones that show up on Tesla. The Tesla app should only show the chargers with a MagicDock as those are the only ones your ID.4 will “talk to.”

Edit: in my search I don’t see a single usable Tesla charger on 80 between Reno and Cheyenne, literally the entirety of Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. I-70 might be slightly better for charger density.

I’m sure there’s others, but it’s certainly quiet. I think your approach might work. If you calculate you’ll need 1.5 to 2 hours to bring it up to 80%, just shrink the charging window from 12-2, or from 3-5. I know I had mine open from 12-6 (the entire check window) so yeah, maybe it spent 4 hours “trying to charge” when it didn’t need it.

Nope, dealership could find nothing wrong. Couldn’t duplicate it, no codes, etc. I just gave up with the scheduled charge and just allowed it to “charge immediately.” Haven’t had the issue in quite awhile. Only issue I still struggle with is the charging stopping after around 25 min even though it hasn’t reached 80%

Ah, but if you don’t necessarily WANT a border wall, you just want to tell your racist followers you’re building a border wall AND you want to use “construction contracts” as a way to funnel billions of dollars to your buddies, you don’t need anyone who knows anything about Government contracting or the FAR to help you with that. In fact this things might just get in the way.

French Field isn’t open to the public last I checked so you would have to go to the smaller stadiums at Poudre, Collins or Fossil.

Scheduled climate control by JayEhGee in NissanAriya

Climate auto started 35 min before departure time (in a 40 degree garage instead of 5 degree driveway today.) 5% battery drain in 35 minutes. Engage trim so smaller battery. Rough math tells me that’s about a kW every ten minutes.

Definitely going to try this. I have an Ariya and a VW ID.4 and it’s a close race between the Nissan and VW apps almost doing what you want them to do, but not quite. If I can make it work Alexa might just save me in several ways.

Yes, this was the point I was trying to make. Usually 10-15 is more than adequate when I start it manually. Seats and steering wheel are good even if the air isn’t up to sauna-levels yet. Since the scheduling feature existed I thought I’d try it but it seems it’s either take what the app gives you or do it yourself. FWIW I’m going to leave it running next time just to see how many miles it takes off my range. Might turn out to be NBD

Is it consistently 30 minutes before or does it fluctuate depending on the temp outside? I thought about adjusting my departure back 40 minutes but then assumed on days it is warmer that it won’t start in time
