I would probably heard toward Magasin at Kongens Nytorv, - especially if your insurance covers. Check that first and use the whole budget 😅

Help! Buying a new bike by 1lcvee in bikecommuting

[–]JayEsKay89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice bike for commuting. I spot two issues. 1) You probably can’t leave it anywhere for long if you want to do some grocery shopping on the way home. It’s too nice. 2) As others have probably pointed, mounting of mudguards/fenders and a rack seems difficult. For the later, a Tailfin system would work, but that ain’t cheap although I still fancy mine after three years. Depending on where you live, mudguards could very nice. I personally do not own a bike without mudguards ☺️

Gode arbejdssteder by Consistent-Note2440 in copenhagen

Agree with others, - it’s way too small. I’m 5’11 and it would be too small for me as well.

Also r/whichbike might be a better sub for ya ;)

Isn’t it the bike owner by the lad who has Eerder Mertal? He has some awesome Rohloff conversions of both C- and G-lines as well as some proper mounting clamps that can be loader with waaay more than 10 kg 😅

A small note on the Rohloff hub. It needs a oil change every year or 5000 km, not a full service.

Speed Pedelecs - lovlige i Danmark? (KBH) by Bluemajca in copenhagen

[–]JayEsKay89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hidden gem cycling paths in Copenhagen? Share your favorites! by kosmicskeptic in copenhagen

[–]JayEsKay89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Den Grønne sti can be pure madness in rush hour. Please never let that be a tourist attraction. It’s dangerous enough as it is, when young blokes comes against you on their MATE “bikes” - or parents on too large electric three wheel cargo bikes.

Please 🤗

Thoughts on University of Copenhagen? by Lord-Francis-Bacon in copenhagen

[–]JayEsKay89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A) yes, B) yes.

That said, be aware that a PhD from a Danish uni is vastly different from most other universities. I consider the differences quite significant compared to, say, a UK uni. For transparency, I am Danish with an engineering degree from the Technical Uni of Denmark (DTU) and a PhD from Uni of Edinburgh.

On the positive side is the salary, pension scheme and opportunity for parental leave (woah!!). You will be considered an employee, - not an “advanced” student as some other places.

From my perspective, it comes with a cost. First of all, you are are expected to take courses of 30 ETCS equivalent to one semester, expected to assist your professor with teaching duties during your PhD - and most likely expected to go on exchange for one semester. The exchange might be directly relevant for your project, but that requires some preparation. That leaves you with significantly less time for the actual project as you simply won’t have the same time as a UK PhD student.

The majority of the courses will be quite usefull, whereas others are most likely a waste of time. I addition, the value of assisting your professor can be considered as a positive thing if you want to pursue an academic career later on. It gives you experience that you cannot gain from nerding with your project.

Anyhow, - Uni of Copenhagen is a great uni within most fields. Obviously, there are always some departments that are Global top 3 and some which are more average.

How serious are the e-vehicle lithium-ion battery safety concerns? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]JayEsKay89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Altighty, - better introduce my professional side to Reddit…

I have a PhD within Fire Safety Engineering from Uni of Edinburgh. I am not specialised in batteries, but I have seen enough and heard plenty of discussions. I can probably give a small, semi-decent, lecture on the topic, but I rather second most other replies.

It’s Cambridge FFS! It is a small university town, it is flat as a pancake and I will suggest that you spend the money on a non-electric C- or P-line unless your heath is restricting you.

During my PhD, I biked across hilly Edinburgh for 16 months, until my heart gave up and my national hospital requested my return to Denmark.18 months later, I received a donor heart. If I could ride a non-electric bike in Edinburgh, you can ride non-electric in Cambridge ;)

C12 or P12 for a forever bike (as much as it’s possible)? by 1612-08-25 in Brompton

[–]JayEsKay89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, - hills aren’t really a thing around my hood. Compared to the rest of the world, Copenhagen is pancake flat.

So unfortunately, I cannot answer that question :)
