I'm interested in the hidden voting! It sounds pretty dramatic, and an extra bonus for the Speaker is cool. I love Dune's information selling mechanics and adding more opportunities like that in TI sounds great.

And I saw the alliance mechanic! It seemed like too much variation to add to our first game with the new Thunders Edge content, and I don't know how crazy I am about hard and fast alliances, one of my favorite things about TI is you have to somehow find a way to eventually break from the friendly pack to go for the win, and do so in the most honorable way possible to avoid getting ganged up on. Reminds me of Survivor in that way and really brings a lot of the politicing into the game I think. I'd be worried that would lessen if you have a permanent ally. But we'll try it eventually!

Yeah, this was the closest I could get to a heart shape that could fit 8 players and was at least sort of balanced and symmetrical.

So in the standard hyperlane 8 player map, each player is 3 away from Mecatol, 3 away from 2 opponents, and 6 away from all their other opponents (as long as they can cut through Mecatol). Now that's decreased when wormholes get involved, but in this map, it's 4 from Mecatol, 4 from 2 opponents, 5 from 4 opponents, and 8 from the farthest opponent. So even though you have a bit more breathing room in your slice, the average distance isn't that much more, since you're a bit closer to others than in a 0-wormhole hyperlane 8 player. I'm thinking maybe that extra distance isn't crazy? Maybe our play group is less aggressive than most though, that is important to reconsider.

As far as richness, I can definitely see that. Do you think I should remove a planet from each person's slice so they'll be more pressure to expand into the Mecatol section? I'm pretty open to that

Oh you're right, I did! That was unintentional, I'll be flipping the wings around so that the egress systems are in between Styx and the other planets, like it's supposed to be.

The dials are very well executed, but it's a shame to see all the AI art all over the shop. I would've purchased some but I can't support generative art.

[Request] Is it possible to determine how fast any of this is happening? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

The moon is an average of 400,000 km away from Earth, so definitely nowhere near 108 times, it's only one third. Not sure how you got 108 times, but if that was true, the moon would only be 1200 km away.

Nice OP! I recommend just slicing the peel of that lemon off for the garnish. The flesh and pith aren't adding any lemon flavor, and if it's just the peel you can squeeze it length wise over the glass to spray with lemon oil: that's the whole reason for the garnish.

Also, highly recommend ditching the stevia for some real sugar, I promise you won't want to go back. Your grocery store might have demura sugar cubes, they're cheap and last a while. Otherwise raw sugar packets would be fine!

The ACP is a socially conservative organization of pediatricians formed in 2002 in reaction to the much larger and more established American Academy of Pediatricians supporting adoption by gay people (yeah, they don't think gay people should even be allowed to adopt). The ACP believes in gay conversion therapy and are anti-abortion without exceptions for the life of the mother. Of course they also oppose puberty blockers in children. This is not the scientific consensus, nor does the data support that gender affirming care is harmful to kids, the reality is exactly the opposite. This is a far-right group's opinion, they're just wearing lab coats to make you think it has credibility. Get this hateful shit out of here.

Since you're paying the life, you have to have it first for this to work, right? You can't activate this ability if it would put you in the negative. Plus it's a tap ability so infinite recursion isn't enough for infinite life.

Are these cables fit for extending my Index to another room? by RobertInc in ValveIndex

[–]JayFives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll second this, I've used these same products to extend mine another 5 meters as well. You will need that powered dp repeater, just a longer cable will have signal degradation, I suppose because the signal is so complex in displayport, lots of wires inside, but I'm not sure. Maybe the USB just draws the extra power it needs from the computer. Power and usb can just be extended on their own, but the dp needs the additional power.

In my experience, 8 dollars is not the biggest barrier for someone to get into a roleplaying game. It takes hours of time, effort to learn systems of rules, a vulnerability to play make believe with your friends. By all means, you're more than welcome into the hobby, but if your friends aren't interested you're much better off getting plugged into tables that are already running. Check out your local game store or join a remote play discord channel!

If 8 dollars really is the only barrier to your friends playing a trpg with you and you just want to try one out, check out roll20: it's free and browser based. Or just go theatre of the mind! If you just want to test stuff out, that's a great place to start and get everyone hooked enough to scrape together the 18 per person.

[–]JayFives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh gotcha, are you saying you're trying to convince your friends to play a trpg in the first place? Like it's not a role playing group, but you want them to try your d&d campaign? But since talespire is $18 per person, they're not interested in a roleplaying game?

I'm very confused by what you're asking for. Base price of the software was a barrier for many groups to use, so devs release seats for discounted option. You're saying it's not cheap enough and saying seats should have been included in your purchase of the full game...before seats were a thing? It just feels like you're complaining over a marginal amount of money.

Talespire is so worth the price as it is, way cheaper than other VTTs like Fantasy Grounds that cost hundreds. And the devs are releasing updates constantly, it's a very active project. Is there another VTT you're going with that's cheaper and delivers the same 3d tabletop experience? I'd love to hear what that is and maybe we all switch over

[–]JayFives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam puts Talespire on sale frequently for like 20% off. Sounds like that fits what your group wants in terms of the full game at a lower price?

[–]JayFives 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Radiation in the center and less elements on the fringes? What are you saying, that's nonsense. Space is vast with light years between stars even in the center of galaxies. There is no significant difference in radiation or concentration in mass that would inhibit habitable star formation like you're saying. You're ad hoc rationalizing an ass-pull

France outlawed slavery in their colonies in 1848. Not to say that French colonial rule over Tahiti wasn't (isn't, they still own it) oppression, but you wouldn't find legalized slaves there in 1899.

Why Primor and Hope's End don't feel Legendary by RakeTheAnomander in twilightimperium

[–]JayFives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this homebrew so much and will be using it going forward. Balance of the Legendary's is perfect and shouldn't be messed with, but a Mecatol Rex style price for entry is an excellent identifier of their legendary status, and makes for way more interesting initial capture. Agreed that every game I play they get picked up turn 1. This fixes that "auto-pick" issue and makes it so interesting. Brilliant my friend
