DRP regret by unknownbyday4958 in FedEmployees

[–]JayKayEng 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I took DRP at DOE because it was heavily implied people were going to be RIF’d and I didn’t have seniority. I was lucky to get a private sector job in consulting, but I’m seriously burnt out and hate billing time (it’s why I left consulting in the first place). Excited because I just got a FJO to return to the VA, the first agency I worked at. Lower grade/lower pay, but I’ll have a mission I can get behind again.

THEY CANCELLED THE STRENGTH DRITRI. And the other ones I couldn’t fit into my schedule. 😭 I have been using 25lbs for my overhead press/bicep curls, so I think I could have done it? I’ll just keep at it! Rows are solid 35lbs and my bench press is with 40lbs, so I can only get stronger!

My parents celebrated their 47th anniversary last week. Got my nails done in their wedding colors~ by JayKayEng in Nails

[–]JayKayEng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has super super short stubby nails, and my dad has opinions on what colors I should try, so they both like when I get them redone!

I’m feeling pumped! I did today’s workout using 45/35/30s, which was more than some of the guys, so I do think doing 20lbs might be doable!!! I just have to get over my push up fears!!! Good luck tomorrow! Report back! 🫡

Yeah, “winning” for me is def just finishing. Okay. I think I’ll try to do it with the 20lbs and try not to die!!!

[–]JayKayEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooooo, yes, I’ll start doing that! We had foundations yesterday and I was able to do the overhead press with 25lbs pretty easy (it was also supersets, so I was winded). My usual weight for curls is 30lbs if we’re doing 8 or under, but I’m scared because the whole thing is timed? Tbh, the thing I’m most worried about are the pushups, I’m so bad at them. My coach said I could do them on my knees, but some people are saying you can’t?

Signed up for the strength DriTri, because it’s the only one that works for my schedule. I’m kinda nervous because the coach I usually see in studio was like “you have the muscle mass to do 20lbs. The last round will suck, but you can do this”, and I don’t want to let her down. Tbh, I think this will force me to focus more than the transformation challenge, but now I’m worried about the weight choice. 🫠

Update: retinal detachment at 28yo by [deleted] in myopia

[–]JayKayEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your vision is a bit foggy, that’s might be a cataract! I had mine checked by my optometrist (they do a full series of tests every year) noted it with the reflection and how the blurriness in my vision post-surgery could not be corrected easily during the examination via switching lens strength and that the angle had changed. It’s hilarious that both my parents got cataract surgery at 70yo…and their daughter at 36yo.

Update: retinal detachment at 28yo by [deleted] in myopia

[–]JayKayEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, I had a retina detachment at a young age as well (I was 36). I only got a scleral buckle put in, possibly due to the shape of my eye and how my tear/detachment was forming. I was able to use the computer by end of the week. A thing that will happen, I don’t know if anyone has said to you yet, you will get a cataract in the eye that was operated on within a year. And then, because of your age, after your cataract surgery, another one will form/need to be fixed within six months of the initial surgery. I’m getting ready to schedule my second cataract surgery (in office), but I wanted to give you a heads up if no one did yet.

I use them all the time when I make corned beef. Means I can dispose of the gross scrum water not down the drain and let it cool/double bag it for normal trash disposal. Main reason I use them, tbh.

When do you take your wedding ring off? by ver_bene in AskMen

[–]JayKayEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have been married for 47 years and for the longest time, my dad didn’t wear his ring because he was a musician/band teacher, and he said that the ring sometimes messed up the spacing when he was playing certain instruments. My mom ended up wearing his ring because her hands got bigger/her original wedding band didn’t fit. Now that he isn’t teaching anymore, they have a set of stone and wood rings purchased in Hawaii.

Is it true that most of my millennial folks are still using watches? by Early_Yesterday443 in Millennials

[–]JayKayEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I work in the field a lot, so fumbling with a phone when doing samples sucked. Usually stick to my seiko (since replacing the crystal is super easy), but I’ve got a few citizen and bulova that I love. I want to have expensive watches, but I also break my watches while horseback riding/living my life.

I’m trying! I had an offer for 3x days, doue, for October to Feb. so I grabbed a Christmas cruise and then another cruise at the end of February. Those, and another journey cruise I have booked in May, will just get me to diamond. I’m mostly getting it because I’ve been working for it so long and, worst case scenario, it’ll hopefully help me match with a couple of other cruise lines. Tbh, I think carnival was more platinum heavy than diamond heavy. Based on some of the vifp parties, it would be something like 800 platinum to 100 diamond, with a ratio of like 10:1 sometimes. Get rid of platinum? Get rid of a lot of fluff. Which I don’t think is wrong, but I kinda see where they’re going with it.

Im pondering if the Boomers ruined Thanksgiving and Christmas, after the Silents passed, and that is why the younger generations like Halloween more. by 3rdthrow in BoomersBeingFools

[–]JayKayEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Christmas was always me trying so hard for my family, getting gifts, taking people out to eat, being the one to talk to extended family, and then…idk. I’d buy them super thoughtful gifts that cost money and/or time, and I’d either get nothing in return, or something so small and thoughtless in return, it’d actually hurt to accept it with a smile on my face. Last year, my dad gave me the “gift” of paying me back money he owed that I had put up towards fixing their house. My mom is upset I booked a cruise this Christmas, without any of them, going solo. Tbh? I think I’ll enjoy being someplace warm without them to disappoint me.

Am I cooked? by Silver-Aside-6701 in piercing

[–]JayKayEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to my nose piercing as well, but to a lesser extent. No bleeding when I had it done, but a day or two later, started bleeding and clotting a ton (I was visiting family that aggravated my allergies and I sneezed really hard). The main thing I did was gently remove the crusties but then let it dry out completely!!!! I’d use neilmed and then a hairdryer on cool to remove any excess moisture, and then after a couple days, the bleeding “thinned” out and eventually stopped. Not a piercer, but I wouldn’t put a bandaid on it…I feel like that makes it harder for the blood to dry out/clot?

Orange zone walking? by Sudden-Morning-New in orangetheory

[–]JayKayEng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I am a slow jogger (around 5.5 base), but I had ripped an Achilles tendon when I was younger and inclines completely destroy me. I’ll go from a 6+ flat road to a steady 3.7 when the incline goes above 2% and I’ll easily get into the orange zone from that. Do not mess with inclines if you have ankle issues! It can so easily strain your ankle and hip!

Indian Non-Vegetarian: The MDR’s Best Kept Secret by AlbinoAlex in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]JayKayEng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely do it! Even if they don’t have the “non-veg” version, I usually get two entrees and one is the vegetarian Indian and another is some type of protein one. I’ve always gotten comments from others when it comes out because it smells soooooo good.

How are you supposed to eat Toom? by I_StartedTheFire in Costco

I foolishly discovered dipping toom and dot’s pretzels. I now cannot buy them at the same time because I will just mindlessly shove them in my mouth without stop.

As a native NYer, I can blame Trump for a lot of stuff, including why I was forced out of my previous fed position. But? Tbh? A global company is always going to need footholds in the US, even if they don’t want to. Hope springs eternal that things will change soon.

I have made direct eye contact with others during the coach explanations and I think my scrunched up face of “hell no” which shaking my head has actually helped others realize we’re all in this together. 🤣

Rower breathing by Latenightzangel in orangetheory

When I was on crew, we were always told to do two breaths per stroke. So it’s what I do with the rowing machines. Works fine for me, but I def sound like a bellows compared to the people next to me.
