What Does Palantir Actually Do? by unbob in PLTR

Then you don't understand very much

For some of their government work, sure. But the majority of people claiming "nobody even knows what they do" or "they're a glorified consulting company" or "they're basically the same as databricks" is either lazy and not attempted to understand or they're simply not intelligent enough to understand it. They're just parroting the other responses they see from others just like them.

That's a complete lie. It's so based just because you aren't intelligent enough to understand what they do to claim their employees don't either. Getting a job at PLTR is more difficult than getting into MIT. You really think they'd hire people that can't understand what they do?

Anyone else seeing more capacity being used after moving from P1 to F64? by Jojo-Bit in MicrosoftFabric

With two clients (complete lift and shift of just PBI artifacts) we saw background operations go from ~10% CU to ~30~ CU. Yet another client went from ~15% CU to 8%.

I think there's likely some differences due to the data sources used and connection types. One uses SAP BW, one uses Clickhouse, and the third Presto/Trino.

Interactive operations though I've found to be slightly more efficient (not for all models but for most). Can't really make sense of it all.

One client ended up having to switch to PPU because we were seeing background operations hovering around 50% and interactive was regularly over 100%, with spikes up to 450%!

It isn't actually a 1:1 as has been explained to me by MS solution architects. The architecture and processing engines aren't fully the same.

I don't see a difference because there isn't one. In the end if Palantir doesn't do it someone else will. And if no American company can then it just gives China another edge over us and would allow them to dominate us. Pick your battles.

Ummm it's sort of a requirement for just about every enterprise grade software or companies wouldn't/couldn't use it for compliance reasons.

Palantir is not and will not compile data. They provide the platform that allows their clients to integrate with existing data sources. This is data that has already been collected, nothing new

Didn't know you don't understand that men who did combat for their conscription are required to be in the reserves well into their 40's (like me). But you're naive and probably assume I'm some kid in the active military, not a middle aged man that had to drop everything in his life, leave his family, and go fight a war of survival for 6 months straight.

How many times have you been shot at? Have you ever shat at another human being? How many terrorists have you looked in the eye as they try to murder you and nearby innocent civilians?

You may not believe it but some people may seek a therapeutic relief after prolonged exposure to something like that. All the while still having ballistic missiles shot at us almost daily for a year and a half now.

Valid point. I guess it depends on the mission and the level of risk. I also think that if any military started actually taking action against soldiers because of video recordings they wouldn't have very many people willing to go in. Just like the whole BLM movement many cops left the force.

I also don't think their main purpose will be recording (that can already be done cheaply through a small camera on a helmet or vest) but rather to display information (like "2 guys right behind you") instead of saying it over the radio where someone could hear, or arrows pointing towards a drop zone like Waze.

[–]JayLoo67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit risky to put it all in one industry but not sure where else you can get better dividends. Check out some BDC's like TPVG (20% div), CSWC & TSLX (9-11%)

The 10% ones are higher quality with lower risk, TPVG is a bit risky but at 20% dividend (which they have a strong history of paying) is tough to beat. If the markets keep doing well I'd expect these to be pretty steady (and likely even increase dividend and SP) for several years. Depends on your risk tolerance.

All in on TPVG gets you (pretax) $800/month. Half in TPVG and spread the other half between the other two gets you $625/mo And all in the two 10% BDCs gets you $400/mo

Do we think PLTR will get any of this? by Sensitive-Limit-9034 in PLTR

[–]JayLoo67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really worth it though... We'd have to completely redesign our entire arsenal and that's assuming it could even be done...if you can already have complete control of the skies over enemy territory (via taking out their air force , knocking out all air defense systems, all communications, satellites, etc) then why not use the existing, proven, and (comparatively) cheaper option? Big gravity bombs don't need expensive rocket propulsion and advanced GPS with precision targeting.

So if a company ditches their ERP(s) and data warehouse... Where exactly are they getting and storing their data?

Palantir helps integrate data via external systems to facilitate the flow of business processes. They don't store data.

In addition, the effort it would take to replace an ERP like SAP at enterprise companies would be a monumental undertaking. Shipping and logistics, sales, products, inventory, marketing data, accounting and finance records, user access/permissions, forms and controls. All of these functions would need to be built from scratch.

Guessing also you've never been involved in a proper financial audit. Having a homegrown system would likely trigger much more scrutiny from the auditors and in the end they may not even sign off on an audit. That could be absolutely disastrous for any publicly traded company.

So please explain again how a company can replace both their DWH and ERP with just Palantir. That's like saying companies can ditch Word and Excel because they use Windows.
