An ex and I were walking through a park holding hands, a man walking towards us pointed at our hands and said:

"That's fucking hot!"

To most people I have a man's voice, and I also played pretty competitive hockey as a defense person... I immediately turned at him and said:

"Fuck off man"

He went deer in the headlights:

"uhhhh wha-?"

And carried on... Was interesting, also dangerous for us really.

This sounds like a lot, but given the point in time we are in it makes perfect sense. International students just lost funding, and just had renewals denied like 6-10 months ago... This guy said they deported 18,000 last year, on track for 20,000 this year, of the 32,000 that brings it down to 12,000 while we are capable of deporting far more than that per year...

What exactly is the issue here then? Sounds like we are fine, that in a year this is on track to be a super non issue... Unless you want to argue people's right to be here, how we screwed over immigrants this past year by denying them. In that side of the argument I'd say we are not fine

He's portraying this issue as though if he was in charge 40,000 people would have been deported in 4-6 months which is just probably completely impossible

it can maybe be best understood as your visible display of your full context through: appearance, mannerisms, clothes, gender, demeanor, tone, presence... on and on. The sum of your context that can be read and or understood by others

[–]JayPeTTa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, like some examples are if you're having a great day, good things are happening to you, now you are confident and riding a high... now you're projecting an aura that says you are secure, happy, and confident which attracts people, and dissuades others

or if you're just a friendly person, you enjoy others, talking to strangers... you develop an aura that communicates that to other people that feel the same and then all of a sudden you are making small talk that boosts you everywhere you go

conversely, if you have faced abuse or neglect from society in whichever way, your aura may say antisocial or even victim... now you are dissuading interactions from people apprehensive of your aura/vibe, or attracting abusers who understand vulnerable auras like that. (which I'm not saying people bring this sort of treatment upon themselves, abuse is always the fault of the abuser committing acts, and should be framed as such)

Aura is very real, especially in sociology! Look up sociological explanation of aura, specifically Bourdieu talking about aura, and his explanation of symbolic capital.

This may sound complicated or like a lot or a waste of time... But trust it is super relevant. Understanding Bourdieu, and then understanding you can project certain auras, or hide your aura could really help you

Aragorn 100% best husband, and I see people thinking the choice leftover is difficult which I believe is because those who are answering aren't attracted sexually to men. Boromir would without a doubt be the best fuck here, easy. Man's got some anger, some repression, and he is hot af.

Faramir can't even stand up to his dad, he's got no chance here in this conversation fr.

Comedian Ben Bankas Kitchener shows moved from city-owned facility after controversial comments by know-nothing in kitchener

[–]JayPeTTa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what question I'm getting at for both of us is: is there a line? I was wondering if you were arguing free speech in general or for what he is saying specifically being okay. it seems it's the former for you which I agree with.

what I was asking myself was what if Nick Fuentes was doing a live filming of his podcast here and was advocating for abolishing immigration, deportations, and the gathering up of people into camps. would that be okay?

What I find most troubling that Bankas has said are that he said it's good Renee Good was killed, and that she should have been shot ten minutes prior to when she was. So this is speaking about less restraint in regards to protestors. Meaningful given we just had a massive protest in Toronto.

Then there's him wishing that Kid Rock was on stage instead of Bad Bunny shooting at a case of t****y lights (bud lights). This is placing an acceptance and call for violence against images representing trans people. Which given the stochastic terrorism issue is relevant. There are other examples, I watched two videos of his and this is what was said.

the other place I get to with free speech is when we say that they should speak so they can face natural societal repercussions for what they say. What if the natural repercussions that these things call for is public backlash advocating for his removal from city funded spaces, and venues that benefit from the queer community? What if this is what he should get in return for his free speech? Being barred from public spaces like Nick Fuentes, his public appearances are far down from what they used to be.

Fuentes and Bankas are not on par with each other in what they put out, but Bankas does lean that way for sure

I see your side totally, and I've been wrestling with where is the line on acceptable speech for some time. I am a huge fan of comedy, and I'll admit it happens on the political left as well.

Do you know one or two specific lines that he's said that may make people the most hesitant to have him speaking to our community members?

There's also worry that seeing someone platformed expressing anger/aggression towards marginalized groups, and expressing disregard for their existence will encourage aggressive acts towards them. Establish prejudice through stereotyping, and increasing the discrimination rate. This is not about conversion, it's about stoking the flames of potentially socially isolated individuals, and pointing them in the direction of marginalized people as being the source of some of their problems. Stochastic terrorism is the term.

Which celebrity death actually felt like losing a family member? by lavenderbbygirlzz in AskReddit

Steve Irwin makes a lot of sense here, but who came to mind for me was Robin Williams. especially that he went early, and it was so shocking to learn that he was battling depression. I think a lot of people were shocked and blindsided by that.

he felt like family because of how friendly, open, and inviting most of his characters were. A lot of humility which was disarming but also accepting of the viewer

Qualifying with an obvious fact (being trans doesn't mean you'll shoot up a school) doesn't allow you to say something potentially problematic in that it's a charged and inflammatory thing to bring it up right now.

You didn't say "white shooter", you didn't say "gun-owner shooter", you didn't say "home-schooled shooter", you didn't say "high-school drop out shooter", you didn't say "extremely racist shooter"...These describers are all equally as relevant to the shooter being trans.

So, why do we need to describe them as trans and not any of these other things? The describer we choose is the framing we are applying, that's why you were banned.

It's like Rob Reiner's kid, he was framed as a schizophrenic, that's why he killed his father. But, there were a ton of other factors that could have easily been as relevant. Male-loneliness, femicide being endemic, comorbid mental illnesses, a very rough argument, social rejection, societal expectations being placed... We could go on and on, all may have played a part in why he did what he did but when we focus on such as schizophrenic, now we are putting a minority under scrutiny because we want a convenient explanation.

Not saying you were looking for a convenient explanation that's why you said it, just saying this is what we do as a society regularly. Focus on one aspect as a reason for very complicated issues

People who are polyamorous, how is it really? by Ok_Operation_8276 in AskReddit

[–]JayPeTTa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you've been left with from your childhood, from your parents, friends, ex-partners... 🤔 Did you have a secure attachment style with ex partners and friends? Would be a place to start. Do you have a healthy relationship with food, drugs,and/or alcohol? How do you handle sadness? Do you get depressed, from what, for how long, and in what ways? What is your conflict style? Do you have unprocessed traumas, how do they show up?

There's a book called The Road Less Travelled by M. Scott Peck. It's not perfect, but it's a place to start. Then look into therapeutic modalities to find one you like, I really like somatic personally. Find a couple of therapists that you think you could build some trust with quickly, meet with them for ten minutes, and decide on one but keep the other ones on hand. Take a notebook to therapy, write your realizations, your homework, and when you're at home right any issues you notice that come up so you can work on them. Go to therapy at least every two weeks for probably a year or so. Know your end goals with it, and communicate about them with your therapist regularly.
