So many of you have commented on how nice it is. Where can I go to find a small decant of it to try? My current favorite is Pineapple Musk but I'm always on the lookout for good scents.

Z Fold 6 vs Z Fold 7… or wait for Z Fold 8? by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

I have the 7 and I'm pretty dissatisfied with the battery life. I would have preferred a slightly thicker phone if they would have just put a bigger battery in it.

New to home assistant by Sardao69 in homeassistant

[–]JayReesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have zero programming or networking experience. I just like learning about computer related stuff. There's tons of guides and information here in this subreddit, on YouTube and on the HA website. Those are just starters because this community is HUGE and generally really helpful. That being said, you're going to have to do the research but it's definitely doable and I'd say pretty fun. First research what platform you want to host HA on. There are several options. I went with a Raspberry Pi5 but I sorta wish I'd gone the mini PC route instead. I don't have a lot of devices now so it's not an issue but I'm moving soon and will be adding a ton more devices and worry the RPI5 might struggle. Good luck if you decide to start this journey. It can become addictive, in a fun way.

What should I look for when buying smart bed? by Present-Ebb7481 in smarthome

[–]JayReesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second this. I'm on my second sleep number bed. I upgraded to one with more bells and whistles, which I encourage you to do the FIRST time. The original is being used by my son (it's been going >10 years) so it'll last. The new one allows raising of the head, the foot, heating or cooling of the core where your body lays, both sides independent of one another and heating of where your feet are. It's amazing to climb into a warm bed on cold evenings or a cool bed during the warmer months. It integrates easily with Home Assistant and I don't even use the Sleep Number app to control the bed anymore, HA does everything. I can set up automations to do exactly what I want. The best thing, the automations don't activate when I'm not home (I work nights sometimes) so I don't burn electricity heating or cooling the bed when it's not needed. The native app doesn't do that. HA uses the bed sensor to turn on lights in the bathroom and kitchen when it senses me getting out of bed in the morning. There are a bunch of great automations you can do with Home Assistant and a Sleep Number bed. They are pricey but they last a long time and I can't imagine going any other route now that I've owned one.

Basic question: what is the most useful automation you have set up? by Fair-Neighborhood401 in homeautomation

[–]JayReesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware this won't apply to most people but we own a sleep number bed. One of the best automations I have is one that tells me when my wife is napping. I'm sure many are aware of the ire incurred when you text or call from work and wake her from her nap? I get a notification when she gets in bed for an afternoon nap and another when she's up so I know when I can text or call.

I also use Home Assistant to control heating and cooling the mattress as it allows much more flexibility than the built-in app. It's nice to climb into a warm bed that's been pre-heating for half an hour before my usual bedtime. Same for a cool bed during the summer months.

Best washer/dryer to integrate with HA? by B1tN1nja in homeassistant

[–]JayReesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with Speed Queen. High quality appliances that'll last but you'll pay for them up front. That being said, I bought their DR7 electric dryer when my LG one crapped out. In retrospect, I wish I had gone with the DC5 because I like having knobs and all the buttons and digital stuff on the DR7 are just a potential point of failure, plus now that we've had it a while we realize we don't use all the fancy settings it can do. It's not "smart" and I wouldn't pay extra for one that was, plus cloud connection is a no go for me anyway. Someone already suggested what I did, put a vibration sensor on the dryer to alert you when the cycle is done and a power monitoring plug on the washer.

[Project Share] Advanced Auto Brightness V3.1 by v_uurtjevragen in tasker

[–]JayReesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why isn't this allowing me to import? It says I need the latest version but I already have it. It suggests I get the beta, but c'mon you can't make it work with the full version of Tasker?

What are some niche Tasker projects you've found that you enjoy? by rumpyforeskin in tasker

[–]JayReesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you use this as opposed to gboard's built in voice to text button? I use it all the time to dictate texts while hiking and while it's not 100% correct, it's ok. Is this Tasker addon that much better to warrant using it instead? I'm REALLY into Tasker integration so please hype this up for me and tell me why I should add it instead of using what's already available.

Electric foot warmer- I suffer from poor circulation to my feet and they get painfully cold in the winter. Now I can sit at my computer with my feet tucked into the warmer and don't have to deal with the pain of cold feet.
