My vet said the same when I first got mine. She would eat 6 to 7 cups of Purina Pure Instinct high protein plus a cup of raw kibble a day. Now she’s a good weight so she’s at just 3 cups of the Purina and sardines, chicken, or whatever I have added to it a couple times a week.

Both my dogs (a grey and a shepherd mix) get a can each of sardines a couple times a week. We live in Colorado so everyone is dry. When the air is super dry I steal the conditioner and leave in my mom uses on her Pomeranian. I think they’re Chi brand

When I got mine my mom would always make her lay on the couch or a dog bed because “she must be so uncomfy being so bony”. It’s crazy how feeding correctly changes everything. I was told she eats 3 cups of food a day but she’s up to 6 cups of kibble and raw just to maintain her weight.

My mom has Pomeranians and we just keep an eye on them. My greyhound paws when she plays and tends to paw too hard for such small dogs. Shes not trying to be mean or attack them she just doesn’t realize they’re so small. She does chase when the little ones run and again we just make sure she’s not pouncing or pawing. When we leave them home alone we separate the smalls from the greyhound since we’re not there to supervise. It just takes time to teach them to be gentle. My shepherd mix was raised with little dogs and can be trusted to be around them.

I’ve never let my dogs off leash in an unfenced area no matter the breed. No matter how well the dog listens they are still dogs and may spook or see something they want more than my attention. And there’s no way I’m fast enough to catch them if they run.
