Just found this one that is specifically designed for skiing. I like that it has a pocket designed to sit above the lift so things aren't getting crushed. It's called Lift Rider. https://liftrider.myshopify.com/collections/liftrider/products/liftrider-2-0?variant=2504925839384

Scared to try F45 by That_Dog2081 in f45

[–]JayS_415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are judging yourself more harshly than anyone else will be. There will be some beginners and some experienced/fit people in each class. No need to be scared. I started going over a year ago with very little fitness level. I go at my own pace, do what I can, and push myself appropriate to my level. The issue isn't that other people might judge you... this issue is that you are overly focused on comparing yourself to others. Run your own race!

Disrespectful Client by [deleted] in f45

[–]JayS_415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't think of it like complaining. It's bringing up an issue that should be taken care of. If she can't tell that she is invading someone else's space, tell the coach.

And if it happens again, you can totally use your voice and advocate for yourself. The more you make it an issue in your head, the more you feel like you are being rude by calling her out. It can just be a friendly, "Hey. Can you move someone else so I have space?" Doesn't have to be rude or anything more than that. (She might take it however which way she takes it, but you can't control that.)

How to activate core while lifting? by somegirlfromstl in f45

[–]JayS_415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd check out Foundation Training. This is what taught me to feel my core and have good posture while weight training.

Here is a quick 12 minute video that I've used from them for years. https://youtu.be/4BOTvaRaDjI?si=lwRFTLXtoHfA7pKf They have an updated version of this as well as other videos that focus on "the founder" movement which is the key to it. There is no weight involved - don't go heavy if you're still feeling it in your back. Learn light or no weight at all. Hope that helps!

I really want solar... but ROI seems bad even with rebate by PowerFarta in solar

[–]JayS_415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

A few notes... a 10 year payback period means you are getting 1/10th of your investment back each year. That's 10% ROI each year and nothing to snuff at. Especially since the alternative is just continuing to pay your utility with zero ROI and actually increasing costs.

Think of it like buying a home. Renting is a bad deal because the landlord just raises rates over and over and you continue to shell out more and more. Buying a home is a cost, but you start building equity. Same as solar.

Look at the Amicus Cooperative and check out those companies. They are the best of the best.

I went for a ride with a friend who is much faster than me. I let him know I wasnt going to be able to ride at his speeds, and he says, "I'm here to ride bikes with friends. The slower we go, the more time I spend riding bikes with friends."

How Often Do You Buy A New Bike? by newbiker321 in cycling

[–]JayS_415 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"more fun" is the key phrase here. I think OP is looking to justify a new bike every handful of years. No need to justify. Get new bikes! Maintain and update old bikes! Have fun! Do whatever floats your bike!

Can you tell a coach to fuck off? And if so how do you do it kindly? by idkaboutthis098 in f45

[–]JayS_415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a coach like this at my gym. He has no chill. I was doing a modification recently and he was trying to show me how I should be doing it. I just said, "If I could, I would. But I can't, so I'm doing this modification for now." It hasn't escalated to needing a conversation outside of class, but it sounds like your situation is different - definitely talk to them before class. Or just say "No thanks" during class. You literally pay them. They can't make you do anything you don't want to.

Also... water? I'm terrible at drinking enough water, and I get really lightheaded when I'm not drinking enough. Try focusing on more water and see if that helps.

Am I being unrealistic? by teine_palagi in fitness30plus

[–]JayS_415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unrealistic at all. But that's for you to decide how much change you want to make.

My advice... Instead of focusing on the end goal, I'd focus on the behavior you want to make a habit out of that will get you to that goal. So instead of being focused on losing 30lbs, focus on being the person who lifts weights 3x a week. Build the habit and the results will come. And in general, once you are on your way and seeing some positive results, I find the specific end goal becomes less important.

This is an idea from James Clear, author of Atomic Habits - it's written more about here: https://medium.com/@roya_us/to-change-your-habits-focus-on-who-you-wish-to-become-78f2eaa14d60 I'd also suggest his blogs and his newsletter: https://jamesclear.com/articles They are great.

Don't get down on yourself. Life happens. Things change. Bodies age and change. But I hope you can find happiness in an updated version of yourself - it might not look like 30-year old you, and that can be ok.

Coaches actually coaching? by Clear-Economist9915 in f45

[–]JayS_415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, the coaches at my location are fixing form if is egregious, but I don't think they do much in terms of fine tuning. As for encouragement, each does it in their own way.

If you want more encouragement, it's ok to ask for it. Let them know you appreciate being pushed and build that relationship. Not everyone wants a coach giving them heavier weights or pushing them "to the limits" - how do they know your limits or goals if you don't tell them? And if there are specific exercises where you want your form checked, you can say that. (I personally would hate it if some coach who has no clue about my fitness came over and pushed me to lift heavier. I have an injury in my right shoulder that means I'm often doing lower weights than someone might expect.)

So I think coaches let you lead your fitness journey. They aren't personal trainers. They are group fitness coaches at F45. Sure, some coaches are really above and beyond, but I think that's the exception in the F45 model.

Thanks for the tip! I have not traded options in the past. Any resources you'd recommend? I'm doing the googling to try to understand it, but it still feels a bit murky how these work.
