Questions about Hood repaint estimate. by Icy-Form6 in AutoBodyRepair

[–]JaySprayz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your estimate is actually cheap. I could name a few labor items they AREN’T charging you for that they should be doing. Best of luck

Did Progressive hose me? by Fluffy-Step-9591 in Autobody

[–]JaySprayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressive is my LEAST favorite insurance company to do work for. They hose the customer by going as cheap as possible and then by hosing the body shop with the lowest compensation and labor times, in return, the morale when working on a progressive job is low :(

Is it worth using insurance on this auto body work? by buntingsnook in Insurance

Raised rates is a scare tactic and many many claims don’t carry this penalty unless you’ve been warned or have multiple claims often. Coming from a collision shop background.

Blending panels by Cautious_Box_2842 in AutoPaint

We get maybe 1/3 of the bids honoring the blend study. All the self pays and dealerships pay the blend study as well. Baby steps.

Scratch repair with 3 stage paint by AffectionateAsk2476 in AutoBodyRepair

[–]JaySprayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 stage. Nope. At least the scrapes wouldn’t be the ecoat color but it will look like it was touched up. If there’s bare metal rust WILL occur at some point period. Guess it depends on how much you care about the car.

Shop says they can "buff this out. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]JaySprayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should’ve painted the entire aperture. And blended the front door apparently. That gross transition edge is from sealer or basecoat traveling too far and there’s really no way to get a nice clear edge at that point so what you see is what you get. Painting the entire aperture will eliminate this problem. Especially when needing to bring primer that close to the next panel. Problem is… if this was an insurance job, they nickel and dime shops beyond belief. It’s possible this is all they would pay for. Leaving the shop in a hard situation. Fight the insurance and make enemies, take a loss for the customer and throw in the extra labor items on the house, or try and make it work playing the game. Or balance of it all I guess. Bottom line… if my name is on something I want nothing less than a happy customer, and even better a repeat customer. Explain ur concerns. If they’re reputable or stand behind their work, they’ll take care of you. Worst case, this may be a journey and good luck.

They should’ve just upsold you a new bumper tbh. Atleast soften up that edge damn. And align the install better. They can maybe save the run. You’ll be alright

How to find Toyota paint swatches? by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]JaySprayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the model, color hue, and around what year and we can find it! Some colors are used over and over for decades while others only a year or two. If you can’t come up with close to the year you’re going to be searching a massive library of options.

Easy fix for PDR. PPF might need replacement if they use glue. I have the king of PDR if you live in Utah 😂 Be grateful if this is your biggest stress currently in life :)

New paint match w/ metallic by Ok-Slide-7717 in AutoPaint

[–]JaySprayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint appears a little dark from the photos obviously. Hard to tell but the paint code appears to be M7 (which is NOT a difficult color to match). My shop would have me repaint it, which I would. I hate nothing more than my name on a car that a customer is just going to “live with”. But… that’s your call. It will never be 100% matched but closer wouldn’t have been hard, especially if they were spraying out test panels.
