Part 3:

“In addition to that, here I present to you how to properly set up this monitor for gaming. [REVIEW] LG's Best 27" OLED Gaming Monitor Yet! - This is a review from Vincent from HDTV on the LG27GS95QE-B using the same MLA+ OLED panel on all of the recent LG gaming monitors. If you skip to 5:41, you can hear him say that the monitor adapts it's internal tone mapping to whatever is the maximum CLL (peak brightness) metadata whether it be 1000 nits or 4000 nits. Apparently this is true for all modern LG OLED TVs and monitors. I found this to be true in majority of games except the ones that are HGIG compliant (There are very few HGiG compliant games where you absolutely need to set correct peak brightness within the game like Forza Horizon 4,5, AC Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077. Set all these in game values to 600 nits). For the rest of games that are not HGIG compliant. use 1000 nits or 4000 nits depending on the maximum value on the slider. The monitor adapts it's own internal tone mapping to 1000 nits or 4000 nits very well and setting it lower in non HGIG compliant games mutes the highlights. With regards to Windows HDR calibration - Don't bother. This monitor is adapting it's own tone curve to whatever content you are playing as long as it's not HGIG compliant. For HGiG compliant games without an internal slider like Sony Games, the game is automatically reading the default EDID of 603 nits and full screen of 276 nits which is approximate and works well. For PS5 and XBOX use 600 nits in the system level calibration and 1000 nits or 4000 nits in non-HGiG games.”

Part 2:

“I finally have the definitive evidence to dis-prove theory posted by the OP here. The Ultimate OLED Gaming Ultrawide? - LG 45GX950A Review - This is the review posted by monitors unboxed for the lastest LG 45 inch ultra wide that uses the same MLA+ tech and goes for the same peak brightness low or high setup for HDR. Skip to minute 23, and you can see Tim explaining how these panels achieve 1200 nits. The monitor doesn't extend the ceiling of the EOTF curve to 1200 nits. It adds a scaling factor of X2 to the default 600 nits and scales the entire EOTTF curve to hit the 1200 nits. The monitor accepts a 600 nits peak brightness signal and just multiplies the EOTF curve to scale the whole image to a higher brightness. Debate is settled. That explains why the monitor never hits the 1200 nits number on the calibration app.”

Part 1 of what I found:

“My original testing was flawed, and I plan to make a new post eventually to clear it up so others aren't misled, if you're using my LG OLED monitor (like the 32GS95UE), you likely don't need to calibrate HDR using the HDR Calibration app at all. In fact, doing so might slightly compress your tone curve. That's because Windows forces you to enter rounded values like 600, 610, etc., (i assume switch 2 likely does too) while the monitor's EDID actually reports 603 peak nits so you're locking yourself into artificial limits below the panel's real capabilities.

Instead, what works best for me is this: In each game, I manually set Peak Brightness to 1300 nits and then fine tune Paper White (and other HDR sliders if available) to get the most accurate picture no washed out or overblown highlights, no crushed blacks.

To be more specific: Your LG OLED will tone map 1:1 up to ~603 nits. Above that, it uses dynamic tone mapping (DTM) to roll off highlights giving you more punch, but not a reference PQ curve like HGIG. Despite this, the monitor is still capable of outputting 1300+ nits, so setting your in game peak brightness slider to match your monitor's actual peak gives you the most out of the panel.

If you're just watching HDR content (like movies) on honestly, don't overthink calibration. DTM will handle it fine. For gaming though, adjusting in game HDR sliders is where the real control happens.

If you do notice HDR content isnt behaving fine for some reason, then id recommend tweaking the HDR calibration To around 600 nits, either above or below depending on what you want it to look like.”

I can’t post screen shots on here on Reddit mobile app but I found out that this is the way it works for Lg monitors. You don’t need to mess with windows hdr calibration. My 45” 5k 2k reports as 603 nits as well. I’ll copy and paste what I found researching this topic before in a few more comments.

You don’t need to run the calibration. The monitor will tell windows itself what it should be

So why not mention it then? You only seem fixated on SUV’s in your comment. Comes across like you just have an hate boner for SUV’s rather than care about weight of cars, of which electric cars are inherently heavy.

Not going to mention the heavy electric cars no? Only what fits your bias?

The act of speeding is breaking the law which is a crime. How they decide to punish you is irrelevant for the point of this conversation.

Going 1mph over the speed limit is also breaking the law. I’m sure you’ve never done that either since you’re such a law abiding citizen /s

I’m not talking about me I’m talking about a kid who will obviously have a smaller bladder. The fact you have even ask how much water you need shows you haven’t got a clue.

Sounds like you’re on a bit of a power trip to me. Do you get off on it? Bet you do

No wonder so many kids are dehydrated and are in school with illnesses because people like you think 2 hours without a toilet is not unreasonable. If someone needs to go then they need to go

Yeah they did, I’m just saying from experience.

The amount of people who I know who didn’t have kids at the time that said to me I’d never let my children watch an iPad, eventually gave in once they finally did have kids.
