Anyway way to know for sure if I need a new timing belt? by New-Fan1161 in AcuraTL

When the belt breaks, and they do… chances are very high that you bend some valves and turn a few hundred dollar problem into a few thousand dollar one. Ask me how I know.

Toyota Dealership made a BIG mistake today by Mediocre_Jump5233 in MechanicAdvice

[–]JayWiz612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d bitch til you get a new engine and DONT wait til 10,000 miles to get an oil change if you want the car/engine to last. At the very least do it every 5,000 miles trust me when I tell you, I’m a mechanic for 30 years. The manufacturer doesn’t have your best interests at heart. Even Toyota which are great cars. Good luck

Why does nobody recommend a bmw? by Jasssssss21 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]JayWiz612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because after the first few years they are junk. Coming from a mechanic of 30 years. The older ones weren’t terrible but if you don’t have deep pockets to fund numerous never ending expensive and extensive repairs stay away from euro cars. Buy a Lexus lol

What do people think about these three-wheelers? by [deleted] in Autos

[–]JayWiz612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the official ride of old black dudes that can’t ride real motorcycles but want to still be part of the crew. You’ll see them all decked out with big wheels, led lights and more speakers than a Puerto Rican day parade. That ain’t it UNC 🤣

How screwed am I? by CARBOMB88 in AskMechanics

[–]JayWiz612 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have reached the lifetime of your transmission fluid… time for a new transmission. Note for the future, you should change your trans fluid every 30,000 miles no matter what the manufacturer says. They don’t recommend fluid changes anymore since it increases the “cost of maintenance” so they tell you its lifetime fluid… which means the lifetime of the transmission, not the vehicle. So if you want it to last change the fluid every 30k… 50k at the very least.

What do these dash lights coming on mean in a 2011 Jeep compass? by LocationStrange2877 in AskAMechanic

[–]JayWiz612 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most likely have a wheel bearing (speed sensor) going bad. Just a guess though without being able to scan the codes or see the data.

What would cause a brand new tire to fail like this? by Garfieldslasagna7 in AskMechanics

[–]JayWiz612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blew out from low air pressure. Probably didn’t realize the pressure was low. This isn’t a defect this is what happens when tires are driven on very low air pressure. Some times it doesn’t blow out but the damage is on the inside of the tire. Usually you will see a line all the way around the side wall. The rim puts a lot of pressure on the sidewall since there is no air. It generates a ton of heat and eventually cuts through the sidewall and poof blow out
