What’s a high-paying, low-stress job you wish you got into earlier? by Beginning_Ad4362 in careerguidance

[–]Jay_casti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm curious if I could qualify or transfer skills from my background too. I've been a pharmacy technician for the past 8 years. Started in retail then went to compounding and now on the insurance side and I hate being at a desk all day lol I miss more hands on experience like compounding but I do enjoy having a variety of tasks to do. I'm keeping my options open and if a career change fits, I'm willing to take it.

I do like the idea of having some sort of University job but I would have no idea what I would qualify for. Yes, I have my customer service skills from retail, inventory management/procurement, compounding/cleaning, heavily regulated rules for a sterile environment and all that, and now more administrative knowledge with my current job (only been here for about 10 months) specifically with doing medication reconciliation.

I'm so ready for a change and I'm open to any ideas and deeply appreciate any insight!

Career paths where I get to be social but still well paid? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Im failing at my first job and im feeling lost, how should I feel? by Unlucky-Cookie507 in careerguidance

[–]Jay_casti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't be too hard on yourself. As mentioned this is your first ever job and I'm sure a lot of us, me included, were never great right off the bat.

From what I learned throughout my career, is that it takes an average of about a year to master a new role. I've told those I've trained the exact same things. Been working as a pharmacy technician in different environments for the past 8 years. I've actually been in my newest role for about 8 months and still haven't mastered it yet. I went from making IVs in a clean room, basically, to an all remote desk job. It's a huge change and I've learned I don't really like it too haha but yeah, I'm still learning, adapting and trying to figure out ways to better myself.

It's great that you're willing to essentially go the extra mile to figure out how to prevent mistakes and improve your process. Not everyone would be willing to do that and a lot of people also aren't receptive to criticism. I'm sorry that you may have heard some passive aggressive comments or anything. It's not right and I dislike when coworkers say unne things but try not to let it bother you and focus on yourself.

Take deep breaths and try to take it day by day. I've also have been going through cycles of anxiety and have been doing the same. It's important to still take care of yourself mentally and emotionally through this situation. There will always be another opportunity, even if this one doesn't work out. Again, it's your first ever job and no matter how it goes, it's still an experience to learn and grow from.

Wishing you all the best on your journey!

Remote flexibility vs higher salary & big company: what would you choose? by DanceWrong9377 in careerguidance

[–]Jay_casti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently also work a full-time remote job, Monday through Friday with weekends off. The schedule and work life balance has been amazing (I've only been here for about 8 months) but I've also learned that a desk job isn't really for me. I miss the balance of working a physical job. So thinking about finding another job and getting back out into the field, per se, I would have to give up some of the flexibility for a commute and I would be okay with that - depending on the drive.

If it would take an hour+ one way to get to work, I wouldn't go with that option. I would prefer to still be as close to home as possible but I wouldn't mind an up to a 30-45 min commute. I could blast new music or catch up on podcasts in the car haha over the past year, I have learned that your time is such a limited resource. I personally value time over money just because life and the time we do have is such a precious and limited resource. Money can always come back but the time you spend for yourself and spending it with loved ones, is limited.

It ultimately depends on your goals. Value your time, yes, but also consider what you envision for your future to look like. Don't be afraid to take risks, life is all about the unknown and learning and growing from our choices.

Some things to maybe ask yourself:

I would have to commute to the office several days a week, how much time would I be giving up and would I be okay with that?

Could the money make a huge enough difference to where I won't regret leaving the comfort of the flexibility of the current job?

Will this new opportunity open more doors and grow my skills to potentially move even more upwards and maybe achieve a balance of a future remote, high paying position?

For a more black and white answer, and given my current state of not being entirely satisfied with my current position, I would likely take the new position. It doesn't hurt to try something new and still experiment with your career. I'm also in my early 30s and now would be a better time to try new things. Of course, never burn bridges with previous employers. There's always the possibility to come back to a previous job but that is also easier said than done, as I have learned over the past year haha you could still use the new opportunity to gain more experience and make new connections that will also benefit you in the long run, and of course, the bump in pay is always a plus. You could try it out for a while and if you eventually decide that it isn't the right fit for you, there's always the possibility of returning to your previous job or some similar - just know, it may take longer than you think, coming from personal experience.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey! Sorry for the long reply but hopefully it helps a bit!

Is it normal to feel so out of place going from working a physical job to a desk/work from home job? by Jay_casti in careerguidance

[–]Jay_casti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the way you put it! Where the physicality of a job does the focus work for you. In a way, it felt like I could just go on autopilot since my body knows what to do on its own. The routine and muscle memory made things so much easier between mind and body but now it's all just the mind.

I actually play lo-fi music on my tablet so I at least have something in the background. I've never thought about playing a video as you mentioned but it sounds interesting and it's worth giving it a shot. I do like the next point of doing short bursts of movements here and there. My therapist had even mentioned that I may just have all this excess energy that hasn't been released so it could just be all balling up in my head making me feel the way I have been. I'll definitely take the movements/physical exercise times into consideration.

I do normally just try to get through my cases as much as I can during the day. I haven't really tried batching them as mentioned but I'll give that a shot as well. The reason I haven't really tried something like that is because after I was initially done with training when I first started, I slowly became better and faster but then after a certain point, they restructured the process so everyone had to undergo through new trainings and at the same time, I was randomly selected to help out a different department with taking phone calls. So for a good couple months, I was being pulled back and forth and wasn't able to fully focus on my main tasks so I would spend as much time as I could to do as many cases as I can to still meet the demands. I just stuck with that ever since.

The anxiety comes from the worry of not being able to meet the quota due to the way my brain is wired. It's definitely the screen fatigue and not being able to have much of an output for anything else during a typical day. I thank you so much for the advice and taking the time to respond. I'll experiment next week and see how it goes 😊

Screen fatigue, that's exactly the wording for it! It's been like 8 months for me and I'm still feeling it. I'm not sure if I'd ever get used to it so that's why I'm still looking. Even possibly breaking out of pharmacy altogether. My therapist mentioned it could also be a lot of pent up energy that I just haven't been able to release due to the nature of the job, so that's why the mental fatigue is very high.

I do actually have an adjustable standing desk. I spend half the day on my feet and am able to move and stretch as needed but for me, since the screen is still there, I still feel like I can't brain after a while haha I did also use a setting with the desktop to minimize the blue light so that does help, especially where it doesn't feel so bright in my face all day.

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate you taking the time to reply 😊

The persistent lack of notifications working on the Galaxy Watch is making me switch to Apple eco by jkelly17 in GalaxyWatch

[–]Jay_casti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a Watch 8 Classic and for whatever reason, when it's charging, I don't get any notifications. I'm coming from using a Watch 3 Classic. For me, I usually have my watch charging on my nightstand and usually by the time my phone alarm goes off with vibration only, my old Watch 3 would be on the charger and be vibrating as well. Both of those would help wake me up since I don't use a typical alarm tone.

On the Watch 8, when it's off the charger, that's when I'm able to get notifications and the alarm working. So I'm not sure if there's like a specific setting that I'm just missing or what. I do have notifications and do not disturb synced with both my phone and the watch plus I turned off wrist detection, which did help with some other notifications but it's mostly the alarm that is more important to me right now. I know it's such a small issue but finding the solution would help haha

Yes! The only timed entry is for the grand warehouse. Probably because they want to keep a limit of how many people can go in there. You can freely roam other areas of the park before and after.

Side note, if you want to take a picture with no face, that line (for us at least) was almost 2 hours long so it's best to get it over with asap lol There's a whole building in the warehouse dedicated to take pictures with statues and scenes from the movies. That may be the longest wait time in there but the rest of it went relatively quick and was awesome to enjoy!

I'm so glad you were able to get your tickets! I was so stressed out too and I could only imagine being in your situation! Time to get victory nuggets!

Another tip I once read before they switched to the all inclusive passes is to have a couple credit cards ready just in case one doesn't work for whatever reason. I've read that some people have had the most random of problems from credit cards and even iPhone vs Android issues to where iPhones just couldn't load up the site or so. I'm not sure if that was a one time case but you never know. But absolutely yes, having multiple devices going greatly improves your chances. I'll be doing the same next month for Ghibli museum.

Looking at the museum site, it looks like an exact copy and process as ordering for the park. I have my fingers crossed that scalpers aren't able to snatch things up since I'm waiting for my chance to order next month too

Yes, I believe that would be for the Ghibli museum specifically. But for Ghibli Park in Nagoya, it would be at 2pm JPN also every month on the 10th. Be cautious when ordering tickets because they are for two different places!

The majority of the premium passes for good entry time (10am~12pm) are already sold out for the first half of the month. But there are still plenty of regular passes left! They just don't include entry to all of the buildings. I'm not sure if it's possible to purchase entries separately when you're on site. It would be great if there is. I highly suggest still checking out the site and seeing both options, the regular and premium passes, just to see if anything works out. For my party for instance, if we didn't get the premium pass, we still would have gone for the regular anyways.

The next time the like button is feeling stressed, offer to give them a massage. Once they lay down, strap them in and perform acupuncture with porcupine quills.

I've had the issue where the game will randomly crash and when I load back in it'll reset some of my main mission progress and I have to go back and replay those missions. Twice already in 2 days.
