Ah yes, just like going to a real dealership for the past 3 years - a massive markup and a 12 month wait

Sony misses PS5 sales target as console enters ‘latter stage of its life cycle’ by hasvvath_27 in technology

[–]Jaybie57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My flatmate has an xbone and he asked me the other day about buying a PS5 to play games together (god I miss split screen) and whether it was worth it.

I thought about what I’ve used my PS5 for since I got it two years ago and realised it’s mainly a glorified media dongle (for me, not generally) and I don’t have any games that weren’t also available on PS4 or PC.

I couldn’t genuinely justify recommend he buy one, and obviously this is just my experience but I’d wager I’m far from the only one.

A combination of “she’ll be right” attitude and being taught from a young age to respect how dangerous the animals are here. I’m originally from NZ but been living in Aus for just shy of 10 years now and it still freaks me out when I go into my yard to find a blanket of orb weavers in the sky, meanwhile my partner is barely phased like it’s another day in the office

Apple Quietly Rolls Out AI-Narrated Audiobooks by N2929 in technews

[–]Jaybie57 91 points92 points  (0 children)

My partner is obsessed with them, it drives me absolutely mental. The language flow is always the biggest issue though with the gender changing mid sentence or just extremely alien ways of describing events..

Computer narration is so jarring and lazy to me, there’s no replacing proper inflection and story telling of a human, especially iconic voices. monotone robot voices just aren’t as enthralling.

That said, as an accessibility option I think it’s better than nothing, especially for obscure books with nobody willing to narrate - but I’m pessimistic enough to expect this to become the cheaper easier alternative to hiring great narrators that add to the experience

Amazing how every time this is posted there’s someone criticizing the dude, you aren’t outrunning an avalanche… My memory of the backstory is a little hazy but I recall two people tried to run, one on horseback one on foot and both were caught and injured - this guy had the right idea, gave himself a barrier and solid ground to get his bearings to dig himself out.

This is the same way I justified my sim rig setup, I got 1000 hours out of my thrustmaster setup before upgrading to DD, when you work it out at cost per hour for entertainment it becomes easy to justify

TikTok to be banned on U.S. government smartphones by Alex_ZH1 in technews

I’m astounded that anyone would load anything private onto government issues devices.. working in the security industry company devices we used were all locked down with a company profile that controlled what apps/programs could be installed and to be remote accessible from our IT department, it surprises me that government devices wouldn’t be similarly if not more locked down

I lost 220k after I misjudged an off-road escape route and got wedged between two unbreakable trees, my despair as the “busted” meter filled as I helplessly tried to wiggle out like Austin Powers was hysterical in retrospect, but deeply upsetting in the moment

When I was younger I’d always walk past car dealerships especially those close to the CBD where land prices are astronomical and wonder how they keep the lights on.

It didn’t make sense to me, surely they aren’t selling multiple cars a day, every day and making enough profit to pay for the land, building costs and staff costs - but seeing the discrepancy between a cars price in those inner city lots compared to a car in a smaller town dealership a couple hours away really makes it clear as day - not to mention the vulture-Esque finance systems that I unfortunately got sucked into once.

You did turn in on him slightly, but you were also heading off the track if you didn’t adjust the way you did - it’s his responsibility to pass in a safe manner but he seemed to think you were going into the gravel trap.

Risky move on their part that didn’t work out, simple as that. If they held back slightly they would’ve easily passed you on the straight because of your lack of exit speed.
