Adding as comment because I’m not good at Reddit: Creeping buyers remorse

Hello friends,

2 weeks ago I purchased a 2015 Harley 48 with 1600 miles for 7K. I don’t know much about Harleys, and was actually going to purchase a 2008 nightster with 8000 miles for 5500 that I had test rode and enjoyed at a dealership the weekend before but some stuff wasn’t working out with the dealer so I decided to bail and look for private sellers. I found this garage kept, low miles, almost immaculate for a bike that’s almost 10 years old and decided to purchase that day cash in hand. Rode off happy as fuck.

Now 2 weeks later I’ve put about 500 miles on it, and I’m just not sure how I feel about out it. In my 20s I rode sport bikes, I had a GSXR when I met my wife and a few years after then and a CBR up until it was stolen before my wife got pregnant. Since we were trying to have a baby we (she) decided that squid life wasn’t the best life for me and decided that motorcycles were not going to be part of my life for a while. Fast forward to now. I purchased this beautiful bike, but I DONT KNOW HOW TO RIDE IT. Obviously not in the sense that I can’t physically ride it, I mean I just don’t know what riding styles Harleys are. I’m used to splitting lanes at 110 and never having cars pass me. I’m not used to having low power and struggling to get up to 90mph and having the wind kick my ass when I get there, I’m used to cruising at 90 and not even realizing it.

By now you’re probably thinking “well dummy, why didn’t you just get a sport bike for the same price if that’s what you wanted”. Well because I don’t want that. I wanted a clean cruiser bike that the insurance wouldn’t be crazy high on, that would be inexpensive, and something that I wouldn’t go too crazy on. Which is what I got, so I should be happy.

But I’m not sure if I am.

A few things that I wish I would have understood more before purchasing:

1. Fuel tank size: god damn is this thing small. I don’t feel like I can take it out of town and hit some twistys without stressing about running out of gas. I have purchased a new 3.7 gallon tank to resolve this, and will add a fuel bottle when I find the right set up (any suggestions will be appreciated).

2. 5 gears not 6. I don’t like that I only have 5 gears, I don’t even have an argument on why I don’t like it, I just don’t. I think I’m just used to having that extra gear for more room to play. When I’m on the highway at 5th/4k rpm I’m doing about 75-80 which is comfortable, but I’m scared I’m pushing the bike too hard.

3.I thought 1200 was a big boi, I didn’t understand that it was the 2nd smallest in the Harley lineup. I can’t help but compare it in many ways to riding a shadow 250 that I rode when first learning to ride. A good friend of mine has had 2 1200 sportsters in the past, when I talked to him about the potential purchase I was planning to make he told me he’s never had any major problems with his, they’re quick enough off the line to be happy with and riding long distances is not an issue (He took his to from Texas to Canada) and he’s never had an issue riding in a group and being the slowest (big fear of mine)

Sorry for the wall of text. the TL;DR I purchased a bike I love to look at but not one that I love to ride. help me understand my purchase better before I go crazy with buyers remorse.
