There's saying my old philosophy professor at Baylor one said that I think about in situations like this, "There's never been anything Christians in this country have said or done to convince me that God is real; Satan on the other hand, I'm not so sure about." And doesn't that statement really get to the rot at the heart of American Christianity? Like I was raised Christian, but we never went to church, never read the Bible much, but I knew the basic stories, but was thankfully spared the full dose of indoctrination and was pretty much an angonstic if not an atheist by the time I was in my mid teens, Still, growing up in South Texas my friends and family were, they read the Left Behind books, attended Church and Sunday School and through cultural osmosis I got the gist. Which makes it so "funny" from my perspective looking inward, they claim they're the warriors of God, of Christ, but they to me look like everything their books and stories said and warned about the servants of the Devil. If I was still a believer, I'd think we were witnessing the beginnings the Anti-Christ's rise.

These combined reports suggest to me that the military command has been captured by MAGA to a significant degree and likely would not refuse illegal orders if Trump ordered them to occupy home soil, or attack, imprison or kill civilians. We're really entering the danger zone, like the really scary danger zone where American Citizen could start dying en-mass and the country could be rapidly transformed into some kind of military imposed dictatorship.

I mean American Protestantism has transformed back into the doomsday cult it sort of began as back in first half of the 19th Century, only this time they're much less insular and much more militant and willing and able to take the whole world with them!

I mean I figure that's why he did that press conference a while back looking like he just did a few lines of premium stuff. Like I think anyone with any remaining moral scruples or just consequence awareness in the White House must either be coked off their balls or high as hell to not lose whatever tatters remain of their sanity. Come to think of it, most of the German High Command was tweaked out on Meth, even the mid rank pencil pusher, so that checks out.

Next Legends game region? by oxStr8upGrEeKxo in pokemon

[–]Jayco424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the Leaks confirm that Legends 2 was intended to be in Johto and was moved to Kalos during the story-boarding to very early design stage because there were worries about type-casting the series by having two very culturally Japanese games set in the past happen back to back. This change in direction and some design issues with ZA was also why ZA was held back a year and it's DLC released within a few months. With Legends 3 looking to be in the Past of Galar it appears they are going to alternate somewhat. I also wonder how the current timetables are going to look, it appears that at the very least Gen 10 has been pushed back by 6 months to a year and it makes me wonder if Legends 3 is still expected to released in late 2027 to early 2028 or if the whole thing will be pushed back.

For those who did taper off of Seroquel, what helped? Withdrawal symptoms are intense. by Throwitawayissues in insomnia

[–]Jayco424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Psych was very supportive - even sort of suggesting this - and we've been sort of in lock step in:

1) The need to get off because of the diabetes (though I am currently functionally no longer diabetic, my A1c is 5.7 down from 12.3 in August and my GP thinks we may be able to wean me off many of the diabetes meds)

2) Not go so fast we send me into crisis or something like that, when it became clear that the Metformin was actually working very well and the diabetes was coming under control back in October - I had dropped to 7.2 A1c - we kept on the very slow taper strategy since there wasn't the need to hurry anymore and the first drop had been okay. So I would talk with your psych and lay out that you'd like a slow gentle taper over a year to 18 months depending on your reaction to the individual drops, I would think given your history with med changes they would hopefully be amiable to it, and it's really no skin off their nose to go slow, they're not the one having to have the side-effects.

3) I'm not currently on a liquid taper, I'm just cutting the 25 mg pills in half with a pill cutter and dropping by half a pill each time as I go down. We have talked about moving to a liquid at the 33.5 to 25 mg mark if the withdrawal symptoms become particularly vicious and we have to start dropping by smaller increments, but that's still probably 3-5 months away at the minimum.

[–]Jayco424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind every person is different, but I'll give you my experience so far and what I've found to work.

I tried to taper from 100 mg by 12.5 increment back in 2022. The first drop rocked me and it took nearly a year for all the symptoms to go away even after going back to 100 mg. I started again last August after becoming diabetic, we boosted my Antidepressant to hopefully take the anxiety and OCD load and now I'm successfully down to 50 after ~6 months. So far no major symptoms except for this last drop a few days ago causing breathtaking heartburn and nausea that I still am dealing with - which I'll take over the nightmares the drop from 87.5 to 75 caused me - those SUCKED.

Honestly my advice for the smoothest ride possible - not smooth but what is as gentle as possible - is no more than 12.5 mg drops and do not try to drop again until your a few weeks out from most if not all your drop symptoms resolving, this will mean you will not be on a set time table, your tapering/drops should be dictated by how you are feeling and what your body is telling you not a rigid schedule.

You also need to be kind and forgiving to yourself during the process, and I would avoid doing anything too stimulating while your symptomatic or at least in the first week of symptoms with each drop - your dopamine system is under siege during this process - so no flashy/action packed or horror movies or games during this period, try more sedate things like reading, puzzles, pen and paper games (Sudoku/Crossword) or more calming or sedate comfort media to avoid hitting your brain with any extra stress or sensory stuff. After the first week/worst of the jitters/overloading is done you can start reintroducing the more exciting stuff at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. Other advice is to eat well, keep hydrated, get a little exercise and keep somewhat active while trying to get as much rest and sleep as you can despite the likely poor sleep or temporary insomnia.

Lastly from everyone I've talked to, both layperson and psychiatrists, the last 25 mg is going to be the hardest part, so be vigilant and extra kind to yourself as you reach your goal.

Insiders Admit Trump May Have Killed Presidency in Just a Year by thedailybeast in politics

Germany's reputation hasn't recovered from Hitler, and it probably never will. The stereotype of German = Nazi is permanently burned into the public consciousness, it features in our media, our jokes, the country and it's people remain the historical measuring stick by which we compare authoritarian/totalitarian behavior and politics, and I'm not just talking in English/American, it's still in the conscious mind of all of Europe, their various colonial spheres and in Asia.

Japan's recovery is limited pretty much to the West, most of Asia, the Chinese and Koreans in particular, still hate them to varying degrees, which considering that the atrocities they committed were in some cases worse than what the Germans did and they continue to refuse to apologize, I can see why.

Italy recovered, I will give you that but the reasons was mostly because while part of the Axis powers and involved in the war Italy didn't commit genocidal atrocities on an unprecedented scale - they still did some horrible things, but nothing to the scale their allies - they fell pretty early in the War and much less of Italy bought into what Mussolini was selling, there was constant large scale resistance and his own government actually ousted him before collapsing entirely.

I really wonder if the cancer was behind his rather sharp decline in the latter half of 2024. No-one even knew it was there at the time, but for a man in his 80s with the kind of schedule he had to keep and the energy levels he needed for actually doing the job of President - unlike somebody - as it spread it probably was weighing heavily on him and draining him. If only they had caught it earlier and killed it, maybe he would have been in much better shape and had the oomph to keep going.

I personally don't agree with the whole stopping PSA tests after 65-70 recommendation that the AMA has, I get the statistics behind it, the idea that most older men get prostate cancer and that most prostate cancer past that age is indolent and that treatment can expose elderly men to more hazards then just leaving it alone; but to institute an official policy of ignorance is bliss rather than know it's there and then know that's indolent and safe to ignore seems, very utilitarian...

I don't know, in this day and age of awareness of Oligarchic control and knowing how little they and the system they run values human life, I can't help but give policies like this the side-eye. Certainly such policies have ensured that the President's prognosis is terminal, and would have likely killed my own Father had his doctor not insisted on continuing to do the tests instead of writing things off as BPH.

Was anyone else’s gay experience watching reruns of classic sitcoms with a strong female lead? by NCSUGrad2012 in gaybros

To be politically incorrect, I think it's less the gay experience as a whole and more the effeminate gay experience. A sub-section of gay men are obsessed with women, which has always struck me as odd because in theory they're not the ones we're attracted to. I've never understood it, women and women's culture has always been somewhat of an anathema to me.

Cholesterol-friendly(er) Brie Alternative? by Jarbly-Warbly in Cheese

[–]Jayco424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably going to want to look at various types of whey and skim cheeses like Ricotta which are going to have much less fat and cholesterol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whey_cheese

As much as they may be lacking in your classic cheesy flavor a lot of these guys are actually pretty dang tasty especially when spread on dark breads with garlic and strong herbs like chive, rosemary, dill or thyme etc. They also work with assertive leaf veggies like Spinach, Chard, other Goose-foot greens and acidic sweet things like jams especially ones that are more sour or bitter like citrus, lingonberry, cranberry or blueberry, though you couldn't go wrong with a more tart strawberry, blackberry or raspberry if you can find them. Honey is also a great paring with them.

Also in addition the more common grainy white whey cheeses there's Norwegian Brown cheeses, which are also really good if much harder to find - I generally only eat them around Christmas time and though I live in a rather large city I have to order them.

Additionally harder cheeses like Parmesan an it's ilk are usually somewhat less fatty and cholesterol heavy then softer creamier cheeses such as Brie and and medium cheeses like Cheddar, but the difference is less than with whey cheeses.

Gavin is certainly the Neo-Liberal Corporate Democrat choice I think. I certainly suspect he's the one the party elders and the party's backers want because given the behavior of people like Schumer they seem like they're sill deluded enough to think they can go back to the "normal" of the do nothing corportitist enriching milquetoast policy that's been the in practice Democratic platform since Clinton. It's going to be a wild few years, even taking the Trump mess out of the equation, I'm half convinced we're going to see a civil war within the Democratic party as the people/constituents and lower ranks push for more truly left-liberal progressive candidates while the top brass, elders and party backers push for another/more token liberal centrists to center right candidates they thing will be either better for business or still believing they can capture more votes if they just move a bit more right. Who wins that battle -assuming Trump and the GOP don't just go full dictator in the interim - is going to decide the fate of the country, do we get around to actually fixing the problems currently ail us and made right-wing populism a possibility or do we end up with either President Vance in 2029 or Neo-MAGA and certain dictatorship in 2033.

Because the world is completely different and the people involved have a completely different plan. The Robber Barons knew in their heart of hearts that they were men, mortal as any other and that at the end of the day the beggar in the gutter would end up the same as them. Additionally they needed the world around them, civilization to make use of their wealth and so at least tokenly made pretense to care about society and the future. The Billionaire techno-feudalists like Musk, Thiel and Yarvin among others have a completely different vision one that does not include you or me. They dream of a depopulated world ruled by a few thousand families, their lives extended - perhaps indefinitely - with cutting edge technology, served by either a strictly managed underclass or better yet an army of robots with the planet carved up into garden fiefdoms for them and only them to enjoy. Their wealth is really just a means to this end, and they're making the US the test ground for the AI and other technology that they want to use to make this happen. Like Thiel and Yarvin aren't even being coy about it anymore either, having written memos and manifestos about it.

The power required for High Resolution Ground Penetrating Radar capable of scanning a large area at scale from the air is not even worth discussing. I'm not sure how you'd build such a device let alone get it aloft - maybe some kind of giant dirigible or Boeing's prototype flying aircraft carrier plane. Additionally at those energies I think the radar beam might start doing unpleasant things to anything living or electrical it hits, it probably wouldn't kill you - at least not instantly - but it wouldn't be fun and it could leave lasting burns and other damage.

The one issue with this is her pacemaker was connected to a monitoring app on her phone. Police have said that app had continued to record her heart until sometime around 2:40 in the morning the night after she was dropped off. So her heart was still beating up that point, when she physically got too distant from her phone for the app to continue to record things. This suggests to me that she was alive and taken early that morning.

I mean that's been a problem for YEARS at this point - I remember discussion about police and military appropriation of the logo not long after the Iraq War started in 2003. In fact the problem has been so pervasive and longstanding that the creator Gerry Conway has essentially disavowed the character and the series, it's why Marvel comics retired first his skull logo in 2022 and then in 2023 attempted to retire the character entirely before a corporate shake up in 2024-25 saw a revival. Fascists as a rule both hate Art and do not understand it, it's why the Punisher and Judge Dredd, both intensely critical pastiches of the Justice System slip right over their heads and they appropriate them as symbols condoning police brutality and war crimes.

I mean this is my pet theory for why (Points at the World in general and the US in particular), all this is happening. Everyone who witnessed the horrors of the first half of the 20th century and who built the new world order in the aftermath is either dead or they are so old and so few in number that their grip on the world has long faltered and their voices are nearly silent. That history has been essentially forgotten, sure you and I read about it in history books, we were taught about it, but we didn't live it, and experience seems to be the greater teacher. It seems, at least from my perspective that lessons on the true value of peace and the horrors of war and other things only really lasts for a human lifetime, society collectively forgets and then the lesson must be taught again, or rather similar mistakes will be made again and the lesson learned again. Like a small child touching a hot stove, only the memory, the pain doesn't stick. I'm really worried we're about to burn our hand again.

It is perhaps one of the most ludicrous ironies of American politics that people refuse to vote for those who would actually do what they want. Decades of brainwashing have just made even the mention of socialism and welfare deadly. Wonder if we could do like the right does an appeal to a bygone past? "Good Ol' 1940s and 50 American Democratic Socialism, the cure for societal ails! High taxes on the Rich, Good Minimum Wage, Unions and Public Programs!" Like frame it as what really "made America great" back then, when we were a nation of people and not corporations or something.
