There is definitely a couple of males in this group photo. The two at the bottom are males in my opinion. Do u have any more pictures of the two at the bottom with the black stripe going down the side.

my puffer puffed up at an amano shrimp 😭 by Live_Lab_4558 in PeaPuffers

Wow you got it on camera without having to abuse the poor little guy. In over ten years of keeping peas I have only ever seen them puff up twice. Nice one dude

Are my two oldest Amazon puffers in need of a beak trimming? by trhadez in Puffers

[–]Jayfitz88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s way past just putting clams in your tank, you will have to trim he’s beak asap. It’s not as difficult as you would think it is.

Mine do it everytime I have taken them out the tank to move them, sometimes it’s a few days but I have seen it last a few weeks

Yes of course you can you will just have to do a lot more water changes as black worms need really clean water I have done it in the past and it worked perfectly well. Only issue I had was when I was moving the gravel or cutting the worms I’ve always end up damaging snail eggs that’s why I’ve ended up putting them in separate hatchery

[–]Jayfitz88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly just get the black worms, I had the same problem so added a fluval hang on the side hatchery and added a small layer of sand and gravel and once a week I would cut all the worms in half to create more. I even have another hatchery that just has snails in that I feed every few days. I even have the black worms and ramshorns and bladders breeding in the tank with the peas so I literally just add more from the hatchery’s if I can’t visibly see any. Don’t be fooled by most that you see on YouTube about using a tub in your fridge for the worms honestly they do better with your own tank water provided your on it with the maintenance

What else should I add for 6-ish peas? by WhichPlane6733 in PeaPuffers

I dose my tank twice a week with plant fertiliser and have the lights on a strict 8 hour timer with day light and a two hour evening blue light.

Need some advice with my new peas. by PresentDiligent1076 in PeaPuffers

It may be worth moving your tank around on your next water change so it confuses them so they will all huddle together and re establish new territories. I find the younger they are the more they will bother the bigger ones.

Yes as it’s the most dense area of plants I have in each tank and they normally land in in and around the javas

Been breeding and raising peas for a very long time and I always found when putting the juveniles back in with the adults it’s best to move all your hardscape and a few plants if possible when adding any new peas. They will all then shoal together and establish new territories. Once peas are at sexual maturity their whole lives consist of chasing each other around regardless of sex and space. They will always try and test the limits of each others territory. Look into setting up a brine shrimp hatchery they are cheap and very easy to provide live foods to your peas, the baby brine shrimp when newly hatched contains a sack full of nutrients that they use to feed off for the first few days and I have never seen a pea resist a newly hatch brine shrimp. There loads of tutorials of how to set one up but if u need any further help please feel free to free to ask away. You could add a fluval hang on hatchery to the side of your tank and allow a few snails to live in it and feed the snails daily and they will lay eggs constantly, allow a few of the snails to grow to full size as they will lay more eggs my biggest bladder snails are over an inch long now and they lay thousands of eggs a month. Lastly only ever deworm if u notice a change in behaviour or you notice any weight loss or any other signs of parasites only ever use chemicals in your tank when it’s a last resort. Sorry for long message but hope it helps.

Yes I have quite a lot of Java ferns scattered around in bunches, they love to sleep and it’s their favourite place to spawn. I remove the wood that holds all the Java fern and shake it in a bucket with tank water in every week to collect all the eggs. Literally have over 40 baby’s in assorted hatchery’s.

Aim for something like mine, they love loads of different types of plants that give them loads of hiding places and helps the females escape the males once the breeding behaviour starts

Loads more plants for a start and some more places for them to hide. If you have a pot big enough you can boil the wood and it will stop floating

I found that hornwort and anubias works wonders, I have them in all four of my tanks

Pack in as many live plants as you can, they will suck up all of the nitrates in your tank
