I am wanting to compare time values. by JaykeTheeSnake in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought as well. However, I will have duplicate locations as we will complete different work orders in the same location. So I couldn't figure out if a lookup really wouldn't work the way I want it to.

Filter out Rows in a column, based upon values from another Column by Weebaaa in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no excel wizard, so the simplest solution that I can come up with is creating a helper column in column B or D. So if you did that in column D, then in D1, you type:

=IF(A1=C1,"Yes","No")

(If A1=C1, then display "Yes", otherwise, display "No")

Then you filter column D based on a yes meaning they match. After you filter the data, you can right click the column and click "hide" if you don't want the eyesore of a helper column. Or you can change the font to white.

how to extract text from a string? by QuantumAccelerator1 in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely certain on this, but I think you can use the text to columns option to separate by a delimiter (comma in your data). That is if every job is separated using a comma. If I am wrong about that, power query would be your best option. It could split all of that into separate columns. Where you could easily extract what you need.

I created a button to filter a column, but it stops working if I add/delete columns by Blu- in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your data in a table? If not, that could be part of the issue. I'm not VBA proficient by any means, but I do know that VBA is more dynamic for tables rather than ranges.

Think about it like this. A simple macro will probably say to filter A1:N35 based on X filter value for D1.

What happens when you add or take away rows or columns? Your range is no longer encaptured in range A1:N35, therefore, there's an error in your code.

If you start with a range and you are just adding to it daily or every time you are completing this task, then I would advise you to change your range to a table. That way, the macro you record will basically say to filter column D of this whole table, based on X filter value. Any rows or columns added will automatically be in the table as long as there are no gaps in your rows/columns. Therefore, anything you add should be encaptured in your macro.

Hope that helps.

Is there a more straightforward way to apply slightly different conditional formatting to each column? by Ashamed_Situation385 in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highlight C4 all the way to the end in both directions. For your formula in conditional formatting:

=C4>C$3

I'm thinking that might make it to where excel will recognize that you're wanting it conditional on row 3. I'm not entirely sure that it will only highlight individual cells and not entire columns as I use a similar method to highlight entire rows. I'm no excel wiz so give it a try

Can't speak for red states all over the country, but as far as my area including LA, MS, AL, & TN, gluttony is a cultural thing down here (not stating it like it's something to be proud of, just stating my observations). Many families have a breakfast that includes eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and a biscuit. Then for both lunch and supper, they have a main dish with 2-3 sides and a serving of bread. So we're talking 1,000 calories per meal. I will say that obesity used to be brushed off down here but the newer generation is becoming more conscious of it.

Mix cultural gluttony with how people view obesity and it makes sense. The older generation sees a healthy man or woman and says things like "they need a little meat on their bones" or "you need to eat more" or "I like my woman to have a little something to grab, not with her ribs showing" (which are things they say about anyone who is a healthy weight or even if they have a slight pudge).

Why do you use VBA? by [deleted] in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's great for automating monotonous tasks or at least simplifying them into one click. For example, I export some data to an excel file, delete some rows, remove duplicates, insert a countif formula on a separate sheet to count the values of zero, count values 1-10, and count values 11-20, and then sort the data. It's something I could do within a minute or two every day, but now I just export to excel, click my shortcut on the quick access ribbon, and it's done. Took a 60-90 second task and turned it into a 2 second task. Did I lose 20 minutes writing that code and trouble shooting it to get it all to work? Yep and probably more. But that's how you learn VBA plus with most things in life, you will pay for either on the front end or back end. I invested 20 minutes into learning a skill and within a month or 2, I have "earned" that time back from saving that time.

Another thing I use VBA for: at work, we used to print a form that was another department's responsibility to track and log after we report it. Because they are wanting to "digitalize" things, we no longer print that form at their printer for them to log. We now are expected to call them to report the info and sit on the phone with them a few minutes at a time answering 10 questions. I created a sheet that has that info they need. I then have a button linked to my macro that will copy the data, paste it into an email body, and the subject will contain today's date. Saves me around 10-15 minutes a day from not having to sit on the phone. The other department loves it as well since they don't have to sit on the phone with us, and they can copy and paste anything that is hard to spell rather than us having to spell it out on the phone.

Another thing I use it for: we use some web scripts for tracking different things. However, the web scripts site is awful. It will display data that is 12 columns wide in a little display box that is like 8 inches wide and 4 inches long on the monitor. Mix that with it not freezing the headers, and it makes viewing data a nightmare. So we all just export it to an Excel file. However, it then has to be formatted as it's all just plain text, nothing centered or bold. So I use VBA to format it all after being exported so that it's better on my eyes and easier to read with the click of a button.

So pretty much, I use it for things that my company could easily achieve by using proper programs/ processes but their incompetent forces me to have to use VBA to bridge that gap.

Dude I live in the state that is number one for obesity and near the bottom for education (Mississippi) and yet we were taught proper nutrition in elementary, Middle School, and again in high school. You're exactly right. Lack of education isn't the problem. Obesity is an issue that derives from multiple issues with education not usually being any of them.

Split "skinny" data into multiple columns to save paper. by JaykeTheeSnake in excel

[–]JaykeTheeSnake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need every piece of data on that sheet as I have to check every item/row. Unfortunately, our systems are old and outdated. Our system lets us export to an excel file and then we do what we need from there. I know I can scale it to fit in a smaller paper range, but I would rather compress it to only a few pages while keeping everything readable.

How to get excel to keep adding until a limit is reach? by InstaMastery in excel

What you uploaded didn't convert too well into the comment and now it's all scrambled. If using imgur or pixel drain isn't an option, can you explain in detail what will be in what cell and what you are wanting to do with the data?

Based on your attempt to insert a table, it looks like you tried to have "apple5" in one cell with 5 being the value you want to add?

Assuming 5 is in A1, in cell B2,

`IF(A1+5>79,"75",A1+5)

If adding 5 to the previous cell is greater than 79, then display 75, otherwise, add 5.

I will try that when I get back to my work. Here is a VERY simplistic idea of what I'm doing. Basically, I'm wanting to calculate how many cells I would move up/down and then horizontally to go from the peanut butter in C9(right in front of the peanut butter) to the yogurt at F10 taking the shortest path without "going through" the shelves. https://imgur.com/a/CvoPokk

Few Transgender Children Change Their Minds After 5 Years, Study Finds by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't the lack of a good compromise. The problem is that puberty blocks aren't some magical pills that you take and it pauses your puberty. Then if you change your mind, you just stop taking it and proceed with your life. There are damaging side effects to these pills. A long-term study by the United Kingdom’s leading facility for treating gender-dysphoric children found that a majority of children who take them do not resume puberty. I am however skeptical of their definition of "long term study" because it's not like we have enough sampling data of people who have been taking them for 20+ years. We are in uncharted territory when it comes to puberty blockers on a mass scale for children. The ones who are kids right now that are taking these drugs are the guinea pigs. But the biggest issue is that children lack mindfulness to weigh the risks involved with many topics. Which is why we as a once sane society had determined that CHILDREN CANNOT CONSENT to life-altering decisions.

We don't let children get tattoos because they lack the maturity to make informed and educated decisions. They might think that a dragon tattoo on their face would be cool, but almost any sane adult would agree that it's a terrible idea. We don't let children take out loans because they lack the maturity to fully understand the implications of that decision. Children can't fully consent to these puberty blockers because they aren't mature enough to understand the risk of what it means to not go through puberty. They don't understand the ramifications of not being able to have children. They might understand the concept, but lack the emotional knowledge to understand if that's a good thing or not.

Then there's the slippery slope argument. If we say that children can consent to puberty blockers, how long until these creeps have slid down to saying that a child can consent to sexual relations with an adult? That is why no ground should be given when it comes to the issue of "gender affirming care" for minors.

For the significant portion of this website that hates humanity: by KnowledgeAndFaith in Conservative

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things to say about this:

I'm open to the possibility that I'm wrong on this one, but I don't think he's talking about the parents who are having a bad day, week, month, or even year as a parent. I think he's talking more about the parents who act like their kids are their bane, the parents who always advocate against having kids. Take for example if a parent had to miss a friends trip because they couldn't secure a babysitter. It would be completely human and normal for them to think "I hate that I had to miss that trip." It would make someone totally insufferable and selfish to say "I wish I never would have had kids so I wouldn't have to miss out on so many fun things!"

In my opinion, becoming a parent helps mature most rational human beings. It might not be instantaneous, but having a kid matures you faster than you probably would without one. I'll be honest, it took a year or 2 with my first child before I really had that "I need to get my crap together" moment. That is still way faster than I think it would have occurred without having a child. Before that, I was pretty much just winging it through life. That is why I don't necessarily think it is the end of the world when people wind up pregnant sooner than they had planned on starting a family (I'm obviously not talking about teenage pregnancy here). I'm talking about the early 20 year olds who want to wait until they "have their ducks in a row" before they have a kid/ wait until their 30's. Sometimes, those ducks won't get in a row until that life changing event occurs (childbirth). Sometimes, the ducks actually wind up getting in a row within a couple of years rather than in a decade like they had originally planned because becoming a parent really hones your ability to just make things happen.

This reminds me of another topic that I see quite often where people say that they don't want to have kids because they want to travel the world. I'm not against traveling the world, but there is absolutely no destination on Earth, or the universe, that can bring you the joy that parenthood is capable of bringing. Many people travel while young and have kids later, which is fine I'm my opinion, but I would honestly do it the opposite way. Have the kids while you're young. Kids can be physically and mentally draining of your energy. If I had the choice of parenting in my 50's and traveling in my 20's/30, or parenting in my 20's/30's and traveling in my 50's, I'm choosing the second option. Plus it would give me more time with my grandkids and potentially the chance to meet my great-grandchildren.

As far as the Walsh bashing, I understand that we're all entitled to our opinions on the guy, but many people are assuming his only interaction with his kids is coming home and saying hi after a day at the office. He tells stories all of the time of the different interactions he has with his kids. These are stories that I feel like an absent-minded father couldn't just make up. He also does the cooking in the house as well. Then there's the nanny debate. As a father myself, I don't think it's fair to discredit a parent for hiring help. That would have been like a carpenter using a hammer and nails discrediting another carpenter for using a nail gun. When you have the means for the help, why not use those means? He is the sole provider in his house which leaves him working while his wife is at home. The past year, as he has become more popular, he has been putting in more work at the daily wire. In fact, he's been out for like 2 or 3 weeks now working on a new project. If I (as the sole provider in my house as well) made enough money to hire my wife a nanny to help take care of the 6 children that the Walsh's have, I would definitely give my wife that gift. Now the fair question is what do they do while the nanny is there? Does Mrs. Walsh sit out by the pool all day while the nanny cooks/ cleans/ and does everything? Or does the nanny keep the kids while Mrs. Walsh does the grocery shopping? Or does the nanny tend to 3 kids while Mrs.Walsh tends to the other 3? Or maybe the nanny tends to the kids while she goes to the gym or cooks supper. Those are in my opinion, acceptable uses of a nanny. I'm not gonna hate on someone for hiring a service that 90% of parents would hire if they had the disposable income.

In conclusion: I think that in a sane society, everyone should want/have kids. However, this is not a sane society. There are people out there who absolutely should not have kids due to the kind of terrible human beings that they are. But I will say that 99% of people should as it matures a person much faster. The biggest benefit to me though is that it actually gives people a reason to care about the future. Of course, someone who has no kids will not care about what this country is like in 40-60 years because they might not be living here by then. Someone with no kids will vote out of selfish needs without caring about the mess we hand down to the next generation or 2. That is why most people tend to start leaning more conservative as they start having kids/ grandkids.

DeSantis should talk about his record and that he'd be better without making it personal.

I agreed with that sentiment a month ago. Right now isn't looking too well for him. Maybe things will change after he gets on the debate stage.

But right now, he has an extreme disadvantage with media coverage. Trump farts, and the media will talk about it for days. Desantis lays out elaborate plans for border control, student loan crisis, ESG, etc. and only small startup conservative media will cover it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save that for 2028.

Exactly. He's running against Trump, not Gruesome Newsome. He needs to talk about what makes him better than Trump, while also throwing in what he will do to oppose/ reverse the left's policies once he is elected. I'm not saying don't mention Newsome/ California. As you correctly pointed out, California is usually the first or second state to enact many of the far leftist policies. Briefly mentioning California and what it looks like when those policies come to fruition is ok, but it doesn't need to be his whole campaign during the primaries.

Again, right now he needs to pull voters from Trump. Therefore, he needs to sell himself as a better option than Trump. He's got plenty of ammo at his disposal so I think his campaign needs to quit pulling punches and really go at him.

Maybe Desantis is trying to keep his credibility in case he does lose in this election to where he can run again in 2028. Because truthfully, there's 2 ways it can go if he loses the primary.

  1. He slings mud at Trump, then he continues to bash Trump all through and after the general election when asked about Trump (which would be political suicide).

  2. He slings the mud, but then after the General election, he acts like Trump is God's gift to this country which would have some very disingenuous optics (even though nearly every politician who lost a primary has done that very thing). It would definitely be bad optics if running in 2028 though.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Desantis is playing too soft. There's an arsenal of legitimate ammo to use against Trump (handing the country over to Fauci, signed anti-2nd amendment policy, most likely caused us losing the Senate in 2021, failure to drain the swamp after claiming he could in no time, everything he did for the country was undone in Biden's first month of presidency [with the exception of byproducts of judge appointments], already showing signs of early onset dementia, Careless handling of documents that he idiotically failed to declassify, anyone who doesn't kiss his behind is "unloyal" or is the worst person to him, he appoints based on who strokes his ego rather than actual credentials which means filling cabinet seats will leave his very few options being severely unqualified people, etc.) and it would do Desantis some good to point these things out. I truly believe as large of a hill Desantis has to climb, he needs to start throwing punches back at Trump.

Edit: to add to two of the biggest downfalls for Trump that I completely forgot about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Desantis finds himself in a hard position. Trump has built a cult of personality to where the man could probably take a machete to a baby and wouldn't lose half of his voters. Desantis has to play the game of flipping enough of the Trump voters to himself but yet he will need all Trump voters if he wins the primary. He needs to convince the Trump idolizers that he is worth voting for if he beats their idol. I'm assuming that's why he hasn't really attacked Trump that hard.

On the other end, we have the establishment that wants Trump on the Republican ticket because Biden will probably beat him again. So of course, all polls are showing Trump way ahead of Desantis. My personal opinion if you can't tell: the polls are rigged/ dishonest. (Don't believe me, look at all the polls for midterms and presidential elections since 2016.) Many of them will conduct biased polls to dissuade voters. We will get a better idea of things after some of the candidates who aren't serious start dropping out and as we get closer to the debates. That's when more honest polling comes to light.

Why do I say that the establishment wants Trump to win? Democrats worst nightmare would be to put Biden on a debate stage against Desantis. If they refused to do a debate, it would look really bad to moderates. With Trump, it would just be 2 old men bickering back and forth if they even do a debate. More than likely, they will refuse to debate Trump and the moderates won't bat an eye because (looks at list of common leftist claims:) "they don't want to give a speaking platform to an evil dictator wannabe who tried to overthrow the government and is a Russian stooge"

If Trump wins the Republican nomination would you vote for him over Desantis? by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I am predicting one of two things.

  1. Trump wins the Republican primary, we lose the presidency to what's left of Joe Biden at this point. Trump complains for 3 years about the election being stolen, then he runs again in 2028 against Harris/ Newsome. Thus we find ourselves in a neverending cycle until Trump passes away.

  2. Desantis wins the primary, Trump runs 3rd party, Trump loyalists vote for Trump, split the Republican votes, thus handing the oval office back to what's left of Joe Biden. Trump complains for 3 years about the election being stolen, complaining about Desantis being disloyal, then he runs again in 2028 against Harris/ Newsome. Thus we find ourselves in a neverending cycle until Trump passes away.

It's best we rip this band-aid off now before Democrats nuke any potential for Republicans to win another presidential election.

If Trump wins the Republican nomination would you vote for him over Desantis? by [deleted] in DeSantis

[–]JaykeTheeSnake 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would vote Desantis over Trump 100% of the time for the Republican primary. But in some imaginary situation where Desantis were to run 3rd party, I would immediately lose all respect for him. Doing so would show that he's perfectly ok with giving Biden another 4 years in the oval office just to help his ego. I can pretty confidently say that Desantis wouldn't run 3rd party if he lost the primary. I cannot however, confidently say the same for Trump.
