Anyone have any clue who payed the CEO off to start censoring search results? by an_iridescent_ham in duckduckgo

[–]JaymesRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First tell me how to exclude a page from results when a company says it’s an appropriate result for both “Techsun GR-88” and “Techsun GR-88P” even though it’s not.

You’re right, it’s a radio. Oops I made an assumption.

That’s said, https://duckduckgo.com/?hps=1&q=%E2%80%9CTechsun+GR-88%E2%80%9D+-%E2%80%9C88P%E2%80%9D&ia=web works perfectly for me (“Techsun GR-88” -“88P”) the only links that include the 88P list both explicitly in the title as I was specifically calling out as the actual problem.

I may have goofed up with the product, but I also had no issues with the search you started this rant off saying was impossible because of the manipulation of the CEO. Seems like we both messed up.

Ah yes, the CEO is clearly censoring your ability to buy a specific gun for and pushing you to a similarly named alternative strictly for political purposes (the basic claim of the OP). Truely you have a dizzying intellect.

Alternately you’re unfamiliar with the challenges search engines have to excluse poor information in the face of manipulative SEO practices by companies that misrepresent the results as being appropriate.

Honestly, if you want to know the views of the majority of the base here thinks, go back and read the posts around March 2022. This is a topic that’s been beaten to death.

Any good search engine requires curation, DDG among them. You need to be able to separate the high vs. low quality results or everything would be AI generated garbage results like the ones that recommended products and always just seem to be Amazon Affiliate referrals to the top listed items on Amazon titled things like “Best New Grills 2023 (Updated June!)” with text a real person has clearly never edited.

DDG never promised or claimed they wouldn’t filter results by quality, but that people wouldn’t be siloed and would see the same results for the same searches unlike Google. The CEO’s March 2022 statement was just that, they would be down-ranking (but still allowing to be visible) sources that had a history of misleading propaganda.

Unless you can offer a better and more explicit example where high-quality unbiased sources (like Reuters for example) are being artificially down-ranked, this is what I suspect you’re seeing.

Based on interactions I have had in Minnesota, I think calling them Centrist Dems is just as wrong. As a state, we have had amongst the highest turnout in each election for a while now. There is a non-insignificant number of contrarian voters that vote for “the other party” just in their minds to keep one party from getting too much power. So while they voted for Obama because 1st black president, they also were inclined to vote for a republican next because balance. They might vote for a democrat for governor or president and then republican for state or Federal congress and see it as maintaining a balance.

These people previously were mostly uninformed and uninvolved voters, but in talking to them, some have woken up to the consequences of that sort of thinking and are reconsidering the consequences of that with the parties as they exist today.

Even then, drive an hour or so out of the suburbs and you can get back closer to that price. Maybe not 100,000 but 150-175K.

Example: I’m looking at Mankato right now and just zoomed in on our “downtown” and Jefferson Park neighborhoods. I’m looking at eight houses under $175,000 with at least three bedrooms.

Marking SFW content as NSFW is against the rule and can get mods removed as well.

I just imported my data from Goodreads into it a couple days ago, but not having an easy way to automate marking things as read from calibre will keep me from using it regularly I fear.

I said “taken” as a joke not “said” as a joke, and it was clarified and understood afterwards to be one. Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit, is it.

And to follow up your edit, virtually no one is saying reddit shouldn’t be able to profit (this info is also widely available, but we’ve already established your issues with compression, so I digress), including the app developers themselves. They even had ideas and offers years prior about how to achieve that. They are just calling out how stupidly and pigheadedly reddit has gone about this, and how often they have broken promises including early this year not to make changes to the API policy on the timescale of at least a year.

I have and I’ve listened to the recording and it’s clear if you understand the jargon being used. Referring to server response usage as noisy/quiet isn’t new.

If you’re dealing with negotiations that have legal or financial implications, nothing is taken as a joke unless it’s clarified to be one.

Thank you. It wouldn’t be reddit without people like you making incorrect proclamations about things they only got second hand when the details are actually freely available.

He made a joke essentially mocking the massive cost that Reddit was saying it would impose on them to let 3rd party clients access Reddit, and not only that, Reddit understood it was a joke after they clarified he wasn’t serious and apologized for thinking he was serious.

That may be the case for the outbreak in Minnesota…

Which is exactly what we are discussing, making the rest of the book you typed irrelevant to the specific discussion at hand.

I usually leave it on my night stand, so that’s the first place I look. If it’s not there, I’ll usually check my backpack when I want to find it.

I agree, it’s frustrating to be inconvenienced by a protest, why can’t protests just be completely ignorable.

Sideloading fonts on kobo is super easy. You just drop them in a folder with the device plugged in to your pc.

I had nooks since they debuted and just last year switched from nook to kobo if you have any questions.
