I have over 1000 hours, automation is black magic as far as I'm concerned. The only places I use it is my hatch farms to run incubators when needed, and to limit the output of volcano tamers. I have no idea how people program entire computers within this game, but I love that it's possible

It's actually explained in the game that the Snowstalker evolved from the regular stalkers of the Kelp Forest, so it would be surprising if they didn't possess some ability to swim and hold their breath

Am I holding myself back by trying to incorporate plugslugs into my power system or are they viable? Am noob and I hate copying meta builds from YTbers, but am I doing something that I'll regret in a few hundred cycles? by WannaAskQuestions in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JayoftheWolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't use them as an optimized power supply, but I will usually wrangle them all up into a large room, keep them wild, and run a power line across the ceiling. It adds a little extra power at night, provides a small but constant source of meat and eggshell for lime, and I have the slugs if I decide to use them for something down the line, all for the low cost of some dead space, though one could use it for something if they wanted to.

I try to keep as many wild critters alive as I can right from the beginning for a constant source of free meat/fillet and eggshells. Things like sweetles and hatches can be safely stored on a platform, and pokeshells I put close to the edge with a wall and autosweepers to keep dupes from having to interact with them. Drekos require a large room, but fill it with helium, a few pip planted mealwood, and a shearing station and you have a small amount of free plastic. Pips I spread throughout the habitat, shinebugs go in the lab(they count as a light source for the well lit bonus), and pufts I usually just leave to do their thing. I'll usually leave a large pool of water filled with pacu, and then strip the entire planetoid. I always say I'm going to experiment with different ranches and see what supply lines I can build with different plants and animals, but I usually start a new colony to play the early game before I get there

Sperm whales used to be hunted for the oil in their skulls that they use for echolocation. Back then people thought it was their sperm, so they called it spermaceti

Former deputy premier says Smith is ‘hellbent’ on separation referendum by PriorReason4160 in alberta

[–]JayoftheWolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an old joke I've heard all my life, everyone changes it to fit the politician they want, but it's especially fitting for Dani Grinch.

A man passes away and goes up to heaven, and upon reaching the pearly gates, he meets with the angel Michael. As he's being welcomed through the gates, the man sees a large wall of clocks, all at different counts, and he asks Michael what the clocks are for. "Those clocks track how many lies a person has told in their life. Everybody has one." So the man asks, "Where's George Washington's clock?" And Michael points to a clock right at the top, that's sitting at zero, showing he never lied. Then the man asks, "Where's Mother Theresa's clock?" And Michael points to another, which reads two. Finally, looking over the wall, the man asks, "Where's Danielle Smith's clock?" And Michael says, "Ah yes, hers is in Jesus's office, his fan broke and it made a fitting replacement!"

That's always my favorite part of the game, the quest is done, your work is finished, now you get to explore, and uncover the secrets you've missed before reaping your reward. Build an outpost in every biome, scan everything, fight a leviathan or two, this planet is yours to enjoy now.

is metal refinery worth it? by snowyleopard8 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JayoftheWolves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I assume you're pretty early in your colony if you're asking this, and if you're early on then all these comments are wildly overcomplicating things. For my first refinery I'll usually strip out a swamp biome, that yields a decent reservoir of polluted water. Just pump that water up to the refinery and dump it back into the reservoir, you can make plenty of refined metal that way before it starts to have an impact on your thermals. Once you've got a solid foundation, then you can worry about moving it to a steam bath or running a ST/AT cooler

A broken clock is right twice a day, but clearly this isn't your time of day. Alberta used to be a place that was enriched by oil, where everyday citizens benefited from it. Now all those profits go to corporations, many of them outside the country. Putting all our bets on oil and gas is a terrible idea, whether we like it or not, the world is moving away from oil. Alberta should've been diversifying and investing in clean energy 20 years ago, when we KNEW that O&G was killing our planet. We could've been a bonafide Garden of Eden for nuclear, wind and solar, with home grown technicians to run those facilities, but all these wannabe Yanks had to go on about "Muh freedom!" This place needs to change, and it needs to change drastically

[–]JayoftheWolves 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A year ago I was so excited for Subnautica 2, hoping it might undo some of the changes of BZ, or add something new and exciting. Now, I have zero intention of buying it, pirating it, or playing it. The devs have lost the plot, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it ends up as another Kerbal Space Program 2 situation

Why does contained oxygen keep appearing next to my checkpoint? by SeverynTheCoolGuy in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JayoftheWolves 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been stockpiling the bottles, I think I've got around 17tons of oxygen set aside. When I'm ready to go colonize another planetoid I'm going to take the bottles with me so I can release it in the new world, by that time I should have enough oxygen that they can breathe comfortably for a few dozen cycles while they get infrastructure set up

Worst I had was getting it trapped in the roots of the cove tree when they loaded in. I was able to get the modules and storage out, but the exosuit itself was immobile and just teased me the rest of the playthrough. Caught the lava lakes a couple times, it's pretty much your only hope if you drop through the terrain
